Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse a repeatable, location- and time-stamped observation log. Check the same delivery address on each relevant marketplace, compare equivalent items and modifiers, and record listed prices separately from promotions, availability, delivery estimates, and search placement. Repeat at several dayparts before changing your menu or pricing. This produces evidence you can act on without mistaking one app snapshot for the market.
What competitor monitoring should answer
A useful report answers five operational questions:
- What does a nearby competitor charge for an equivalent item, size, and modifier set?
- Which discounts, bundles, fees, or sponsored-looking placements are visible?
- Are key items available, sold out, paused, or hidden?
- What delivery estimate and pickup estimate does a customer see?
- Where does the restaurant appear for a relevant search, collection, or cuisine view?
Keep observations separate from your own sales and margin data. Marketplace displays describe what a customer saw at one address and time; they do not prove a competitor’s actual order volume, margin, or ranking cause.
Set a consistent observation protocol
Fix the location
Use the same delivery address, postal code, or map pin for every check. Marketplace availability, fees, delivery times, and even which restaurants appear can change within a few blocks. Record the address or a non-sensitive location label in your log, along with the marketplace, date, and local time.
#1 Best Overall
Choose a stable comparison set
Start with nearby restaurants that compete for the same occasion, cuisine, and price range. Include the major services used in your area, but also look for independent or regional delivery apps. A 2024 peer-reviewed study mapped 495 independent US food-delivery platforms, so DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub are not necessarily the entire local market.
Define equivalent products
Create a comparison sheet before browsing. For each item, specify size, protein or topping choices, side, drink, and required modifiers. Record the menu price before any discount, then record the promotion and the resulting price in separate columns. Comparing a small pizza with a large pizza, or a meal with a standalone entrée, creates false conclusions.
Build the tracking sheet
A spreadsheet is sufficient. Use one row per restaurant-item-marketplace observation and preserve the original wording shown in the app.
| Field | What to record |
|---|---|
| Observation ID | Date, local time, marketplace, and location label |
| Restaurant | Name, neighborhood, and cuisine category |
| Search context | Search term, collection, filters, or home-feed view |
| Placement | Position or page section; note sponsored or featured labels |
| Item definition | Exact name, size, options, and modifiers selected |
| Listed price | Displayed menu price before discount |
| Promotion | Code, percentage, bundle, minimum spend, or membership condition |
| Availability | Available, unavailable, scheduled, or sold out |
| Estimate | Displayed delivery and pickup time ranges |
| Notes | Fees, photos, labels, badges, unusual restrictions, and screenshot filename |
Store screenshots with a filename such as 2026-09-29_1830_doordash_94107_restaurant-item.png. Do not overwrite earlier captures; the history is what reveals a pattern.
Run a comparison cycle
- Prepare the location. Set the same address and confirm that the marketplace has not silently changed the delivery mode or membership state.
- Capture the search view. Use the same search phrase and filters. Record each relevant listing’s placement and visible labels before opening a menu.
- Open menus consistently. Select the predefined item, size, and modifiers. Record listed price, availability, discount terms, and displayed estimates.
- Check the basket only when necessary. If you compare an order total, use the same items and document delivery, service, small-order, and membership fees separately from menu prices.
- Repeat across dayparts. Check at least lunch, dinner, and a slower period on multiple dates. A single long estimate may reflect a temporary staffing or demand spike.
- Review trends. Compare medians or ranges by restaurant and daypart. React to repeated differences, not one promotion or one ranking position.
Interpret prices and ranking carefully
DoorDash says restaurant ranking reflects customer preferences and names popularity, speed, order accuracy, and pricing as variables. It also says delivery prices do not have to match in-store prices, while recommending prices close to in-store levels because, in its stated view, markups can hurt conversion and retention. That is DoorDash’s position, not independent causal proof. Treat it as a hypothesis to test against your own conversion and margin data.
Do not infer why a restaurant ranked first from one observation. There is no independent universal ranking formula established here, and marketplaces may personalize results by user, location, demand, or membership status. Track placement over repeated, like-for-like checks instead.
Turn observations into decisions
Menu and price
Calculate your contribution margin after marketplace commission, packaging, discounts, and fulfillment costs. A competitor’s lower displayed price may be offset by a smaller portion, a temporary offer, or different fees. Test a targeted item or bundle rather than changing the whole menu from one scan.
Availability and operations
Repeated unavailability can indicate a competitor’s stock, prep-time, or menu-maintenance issue. Compare it with your own item-level sell-through and waste before adding or removing products.
Delivery promise
Log both the range and the time of day. Use your kitchen and courier data to decide whether a faster promise is operationally achievable; do not copy an estimate you cannot meet.
Visibility
Placement is an observation, not a performance metric. Pair it with your own impressions, conversion, order accuracy, and repeat-order data where available. Note sponsored or collection labels so paid exposure is not confused with organic discovery.
Use your own systems for channel control
POS and menu middleware can help you maintain your own channel-specific menu, prices, modifiers, and availability. DoorDash’s Menu Editor documentation describes editing names, categories, prices, modifiers, options, and availability. Its Australia documentation describes channel-specific pricing and menu overrides through integrations including Toast, Olo Rails, Checkmate, Otter, Chowly, and Deliverect; implementation steps vary by country and provider version.

DoorDash’s 2025 preferred-integration announcement named Checkmate, Chowly, ChowNow, Deliverect, Otter, PAR, Qu, Square, Stream, Toast, and UrbanPiper, and said qualifying providers met stated order/error benchmarks below 1% as assessed on May 12, 2025. Those are DoorDash’s criteria, not independent verification of every vendor’s current performance. These systems manage your channels; the cited documentation does not establish that they monitor competitors.

Review each marketplace’s current merchant agreement before collecting, combining, retaining, or sharing platform data. Uber’s US merchant terms place conditions on menu and pickup-price data and restrict specified uses of Uber Olo Data, including disclosure to Uber competitors. That is a US agreement and may not apply to your integration or country. Do not generalize it to every platform.
There is no established universal authorization for automated competitor scraping or a cross-platform monitoring API in the material available for this guide. Manual observation, permitted exports, and documented screenshots are safer defaults. Limit access to staff who need it, remove customer information, and set a retention period for archived captures.
Capture dated evidence without losing context
A browser screenshot should show the marketplace, location indicator, local time, search context, and the relevant menu or result. Capture the full page when you need fees or policy text, and an element when you need a compact price record. Add a note explaining what was selected; a picture alone may not show modifiers or membership status.
Manual browser method
- Open the marketplace in a clean browser profile and set the fixed delivery address.
- Disable extensions that alter prices or page layout, but do not bypass access controls, bot checks, or CAPTCHAs.
- Run the predefined search, open the item, and record values in the sheet.
- Save a PNG, JPEG, or PDF with the timestamped filename and retain the URL and notes alongside it.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts a URL and can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Before capture it can accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing result.

The competitor is missing
Confirm address, delivery mode, filters, opening hours, and marketplace. Record “not shown” rather than treating absence as permanent closure.
Prices do not match
Check size, modifiers, membership state, taxes, and promotion eligibility. Save listed price and final basket price in separate fields.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Estimates change during one session
Timestamp each reading, avoid comparing sequential restaurants as if simultaneous, and repeat at the same daypart on another date.
The page is blank or blocked
Do not bypass a CAPTCHA or access control. Use the marketplace’s permitted interface, a manual capture later, or an authorized export. With ScreenshotNeo, inspect the page-verdict and billing headers; failed loads and blank pages are not billed.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should a restaurant monitor competitors?
Use a consistent weekly cycle plus extra checks around holidays, menu launches, or major promotions; always repeat across dayparts before acting.
Can I legally scrape DoorDash or Uber Eats competitor data?
No universal permission is established. Check the current terms for each platform and market, avoid bypassing access controls, and prefer manual observation or authorized exports.
Should I match a competitor’s delivery-app price?
Not automatically. Compare equivalent portions and promotions, calculate your channel contribution margin, and test any price change against conversion and retention data.
The Bottom Line
Consistent location, equivalent items, timestamps, and repeated dayparts turn delivery-app browsing into usable competitive intelligence. Keep platform observations within each marketplace’s rules, and let your own margin and operations data—not one ranking or promotion—drive the decision.
