Short answer: social networks generally do not provide a universal “export directly to Google Docs” command. Export the comments with a platform-appropriate tool to Google Sheets, CSV, or JSON, check what was retrieved, then copy the selected rows into a Google Doc. Keep the original export unchanged and label any cleaned or deduplicated copy.
What you can and cannot export
Google’s own Docs Editors Help explains downloading files already stored in Google Drive, including Google Docs text and, where applicable, open and resolved comments and suggestions. It also notes that work or school accounts may have download restrictions and that very large files can fail. That is different from importing comments from Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, or X. The practical workflow is therefore export first, document second.
Your result depends on the platform, whether you manage the account, what your signed-in session can see, privacy settings, rate limits, and whether replies are exposed as threads. Treat “all comments” as a claim to verify, not an assumption.

None of these routes is a native, universal Google Docs exporter. Sudota’s destination is Sheets; CSV and JSON are files that require an intermediate review step before you paste material into a Doc.

Step-by-step: comments to a Google Doc

Identify the exact source
Copy the post, reel, video, or thread URL. Record the platform, account name, post date if visible, and whether you need top-level comments, replies, or both.

Confirm access and ownership
Sign in with an account that can view the comments. For a managed-account workflow, verify that you administer the relevant Facebook Page, Instagram business profile, or YouTube channel. A public URL alone does not guarantee that an exporter can retrieve every visible item.

Run a platform-supported export
Use Sudota when a managed account and Sheets workflow fit your case. Use a browser exporter such as Downthread when you need a local CSV or JSON file. If using a web service such as ZocialComment, check its current support and privacy terms before submitting a URL.

Inspect the export before editing
Open the Sheet or CSV and check the number of rows, author fields, timestamps, comment text, reply or thread indicators, post URL, and duplicate-looking entries. For JSON, confirm that each object contains the fields you need; JSON is structured data, not a reader-friendly document.

Read the completeness report
Downthread’s listing describes a report showing platform-claimed counts, exported counts, and reasons for shortfalls. Save that report with the export. If counts differ, record the difference rather than silently presenting a partial set as complete.

Clean a working copy
Duplicate the original file. In the copy, remove spam, normalize line breaks, or select a date range. Do not overwrite the source export. Keep a note of every filter, deletion, merge, or deduplication decision.

Move the selected rows into Docs
In Google Sheets, select the required rows and copy them. In a Google Doc, paste them as a table or plain text, depending on your purpose. For a CSV, open or import it into Sheets first, review the columns, then copy the chosen rows. For JSON, transform or flatten the fields before pasting if readers need a conventional list.

Add provenance and sharing controls
At the top of the Doc, add the platform, original post URL, export date and time, tool used, account or page scope, and cleaning notes. Remove usernames, profile links, or other personal details that are not necessary. Share the document only with people who need it.

Formatting a useful comments document
A simple table is usually easiest to audit. Recommended columns are Author, Comment, Posted at, Reply to, and Source URL. Preserve the original comment text in one column and put editorial notes in another. If you selected comments for a giveaway or moderation review, explain the eligibility rule and the time window in the document itself.
For long threads, keep parent comments together with their replies. Do not infer chronology from row order unless the exporter documents that order. If a tool reports inaccessible comments, private accounts, rate limits, or other restrictions, include that limitation in the heading or an appendix.
Why exports are incomplete
- Visibility: deleted, private, age-restricted, region-restricted, or login-only comments may not be available to the tool.
- Permissions: managed-account add-ons can require administration of the page or channel.
- Rate limits: a platform or exporter may stop before the full thread is read.
- Replies: some tools expose top-level comments but not every nested reply, or represent replies in separate fields.
- Dynamic loading: comments loaded only after scrolling or interaction can produce a partial result.
- Quotas: free tiers and daily limits can stop an otherwise valid export.
Never turn a partial export into a statement that it contains every comment. Preserve the tool’s warning and the date of retrieval.
Common problems and fixes
The exporter returns zero comments
Recheck the URL, sign-in state, post visibility, and whether the account has permission. Open the post in the same browser profile and confirm that comments are visible there. If the post is on a managed account, reconnect the correct page or channel.

The row count is lower than the platform display
Look for a partial-export report, inaccessible comments, rate-limit notices, and separate reply counts. Export again only after addressing the stated cause; do not fill gaps by guessing.
Replies are missing or flattened
Check whether the selected tool advertises reply or thread handling for that platform. If the output has a parent-ID or reply-to field, sort or group by it in the working copy before pasting into Docs.
Google Docs formatting is unusable
Import CSV into Sheets, set column widths, remove unwanted columns, and paste only the reviewed range. For JSON, convert nested objects into columns or a readable bullet structure first.
A managed-account add-on stops at its quota
Check the add-on’s current daily allowance and whether refreshing comments is a paid feature. Save the partial result and run the remaining work only when the quota or plan permits.

You need a private or sensitive archive
Prefer a local export when appropriate, limit document sharing, remove unnecessary identifiers, and retain the untouched source in a controlled location. Review the exporter’s stated data-handling terms before uploading URLs or account data.

Checklist before you share the Doc
- Source URL and platform are recorded.
- Account or page scope is documented.
- Export date and tool are recorded.
- Top-level comments and replies are distinguished.
- Counts and any shortfall explanation are preserved.
- Cleaning was done in a copy, not the source export.
- Unneeded personal data was removed.
- Doc sharing permissions match the sensitivity of the comments.

Can I export comments directly from Instagram or Facebook into Google Docs?

Is JSON better than CSV for a Google Doc?
JSON preserves structured fields and nesting, while CSV is easier to inspect in a spreadsheet. JSON normally needs a conversion step before it is suitable for readers.
How do I prove that an export is complete?
Compare the exporter’s claimed and exported counts, inspect warnings, and document visibility, permission, reply, and rate-limit restrictions. Do not claim completeness when the tool reports a shortfall.
Can I include deleted or private comments?
Only if the platform and your authorized account still expose them to the exporter. Do not attempt to bypass access controls.
