Safari can convert a webpage to a PDF without an extra app. Open the page, tap the Page Menu (or Share, depending on your tab layout), choose Share, tap Markup, then tap Done and choose Save File To. Name the file, choose a location in Files, and tap Save.
Convert a webpage to PDF in Safari
These steps use the controls described in Apple’s current iPhone User Guide. Menu placement can differ slightly between Safari tab layouts, so use the labels visible on your iPhone.
- Open Safari and load the webpage. Wait until the content you want to preserve is visible.
- Open Safari’s page controls. Tap the Page Menu button. If you use Safari’s Top or Bottom tab layout, the Share button may be shown directly instead.
- Tap Share. This opens Safari’s sharing actions.
- Choose Markup. Safari prepares the webpage as a document that can be marked up before it is saved.
- Add annotations if needed. Use Markup to highlight important passages, draw, or write notes. If you do not need annotations, continue without changing the page.
- Tap Done.
- Choose Save File To. Select the destination offered by the Files picker.
- Enter a filename and tap Save. The webpage is now stored as a PDF in the location you selected.
What each step does
Page Menu or Share
Safari’s tab layout controls how you reach sharing. With some layouts, you first open the Page Menu; with Top or Bottom tab layouts, Share can appear as its own control. The important action is to open Safari’s Share sheet for the current webpage.
Markup
Markup is the conversion route, not merely an annotation tool. It turns the webpage into a document that you can highlight, draw on, or add notes to before saving. Apple describes the feature as a way to mark up a webpage and share the document as a PDF.

Save File To
Save File To completes the process. Choose the folder or other destination shown by Files, give the document a recognizable name, and confirm with Save. If you need the file somewhere else later, you can move it from the Files app.
Annotate before saving
Markup is useful when the PDF is meant for review rather than simple archiving. After you tap Markup, you can highlight a sentence, draw around an item, or write a short note. Keep annotations away from text you may need to copy later, because they become part of the saved document’s visual content. Tap Done only after the page looks the way you want it to appear in the PDF.
Choose a useful filename and location
A descriptive filename makes the document easier to find when several webpages are saved. Include the subject and, when relevant, a date or version in the name. In the Save File To picker, select the destination that matches how you plan to use the PDF: a folder for a project, a location shared with your other devices, or another Files destination shown on your iPhone.
If the controls look different
Do not look for a separate “Print to PDF” command if it is not present. Apple’s current route is Page Menu or Share, then Markup, Done, and Save File To. Safari may present the first control differently according to the selected tab layout, and Apple can revise labels in later iOS releases. Follow the labels that correspond to those actions on your version.

Common problems and fixes
There is no Page Menu button
Look for a Share control near Safari’s tab or address controls. Apple notes that Top or Bottom tab layouts can show Share directly. If you still cannot identify it, tap the control that opens actions for the current page rather than the control that opens a new tab.
Markup is not listed in the Share sheet
Scroll through the available actions in the Share sheet. Markup is the action that prepares the webpage for PDF saving. If the sheet is showing a different type of item, close it, return to the webpage, and open Share again from Safari’s page controls.
The saved file is not where you expected
Save File To uses the destination you selected in the Files picker. Repeat the workflow and note the folder before tapping Save, or use Files to search for the filename you entered.
The webpage is incomplete
Let the page finish loading before opening Share. Content that appears only after a delay, behind an interaction, or inside a separate viewer may not be present when Safari creates the document. Return to the page, wait for the material you need, and run the conversion again.

The PDF contains unwanted page elements
Safari’s built-in conversion captures the webpage as presented. Close or dismiss any overlays that you do not want included before opening Share. If a site’s layout changes between loads, save a second copy after confirming that the desired content is visible.
You need to mark up the document later
Save the PDF first, then open it from the Files location you selected and use the available document markup tools. Saving a clean copy before annotating gives you an unmarked version to keep for reference.
When Safari’s built-in method is the right choice
- Use it for a one-off save: it is already part of Safari and does not require another service.
- Use it for personal notes: Markup lets you highlight, draw, and write before saving.
- Use it when you need a file immediately: the workflow ends in Files with a named PDF.
A server-side capture is more appropriate when you need repeatable captures, automation, bulk URLs, custom device settings, or a PDF generated by a development workflow rather than a single iPhone visit.
