If you are authorized to visit the site, troubleshoot the challenge or ask the site owner for help. If the challenge or page is already visible, use your device’s normal screenshot command. Do not use an automated browser to solve a production challenge.
What a Cloudflare block looks like in a screenshot
Cloudflare uses more than one kind of gate, and the distinction determines what your image can prove.
Interstitial Challenge Page
An interstitial is a full-page screen shown before the destination. Cloudflare temporarily holds the request while it evaluates browser signals. Until the challenge permits the request, the destination HTML, images and other content have not been rendered in that browser view.
A screenshot of this state is valid evidence of what the visitor saw: for example, the challenge message, error code and Ray ID. It is not a screenshot of the blocked destination. Label it accordingly when sending it to support.

Turnstile embedded in a page
Turnstile can also appear as a widget inside a page you already reached. The surrounding page may be visible while a login, signup or other action remains gated. A screenshot can document both the page and the widget, but it does not prove that the protected action succeeded.
Capture the visible screen now
If the challenge or destination is on screen, use the operating system’s built-in capture feature. This records exactly the current rendered state and requires no special software.
Windows
- Press Win+Shift+S, select the area, then save the Snipping Tool result.
- Press Win+PrtScn to save the full screen automatically in Pictures/Screenshots on supported versions.
macOS
- Press Shift+Command+3 for the full display.
- Press Shift+Command+4 and drag over the browser window or challenge.
- Press Shift+Command+5 for window, full-screen and recording controls.
Android and iPhone
- On most Android phones, press Power+Volume Down.
- On iPhone with Face ID, press Side+Volume Up; on models with a Home button, press Side/Top+Home.
Keep the address bar, visible error text, error code and Ray ID in the frame. Do not crop away those identifiers if support needs to investigate. Note the time, browser version and network you used.
Try Cloudflare’s legitimate visitor troubleshooting steps
These steps are for content you are authorized to access. They may resolve a compatibility or network problem, but none guarantees that a particular challenge will clear.

- Update and verify the browser. Use a currently supported browser and install its latest available version.
- Enable JavaScript. Challenge scripts cannot run correctly when JavaScript is disabled.
- Temporarily disable extensions. Privacy, script-blocking and content-filtering extensions can interfere with challenge resources. Reload after disabling them, then re-enable extensions one at a time.
- Use a private window. Incognito or private browsing helps distinguish extension, cookie and cached-data problems from an account or network issue.
- Try another browser or device. This isolates a browser profile problem from a wider connection problem.
- Test without a VPN or proxy. Temporarily disconnect one, if permitted by your organization’s policy, and retry.
- Try another network. A mobile hotspot can show whether the current Wi-Fi address or network path is involved.
After each meaningful change, reload once and record what happened. Repeatedly refreshing in a tight loop can make diagnosis harder.
Collect useful evidence when the challenge loops
If the interstitial keeps returning, capture more than an image. In browser developer tools, enable Preserve log, reproduce the problem, and export a HAR file. Save the browser console log as well. Provide the site administrator with the screenshot, exact error code, Ray ID, approximate time, browser and version, operating system, and whether a VPN, proxy or extension was active.
A 401 response for a Private Access Token request is not, by itself, proof of a misconfiguration, false positive or block. Cloudflare documents it as an expected fallback in some challenge flows. Include it in your diagnostic record rather than treating it as a definitive failure.
When the site owner must intervene
Challenge Pages can be triggered by Web Application Firewall rules, Bot Management, rate limiting or access configuration. Only the site owner or administrator can review those rules and decide whether to change them or provide another authorized route. Send your evidence through the site’s published support channel.

If a Turnstile widget offers a feedback option, use it. Otherwise, ask the administrator to investigate the Ray ID and error code. Do not ask a visitor to evade the site’s controls or to supply someone else’s credentials.
What not to automate
Cloudflare’s supported-browser guidance states: “Automated browsers are not supported for solving production challenges.” Do not build a Selenium, Puppeteer, Playwright or Cypress workflow intended to defeat a live production challenge. That approach is unsupported and changes a documentation task into an access-control bypass attempt.
Testing your own integration
For automated Turnstile testing, use a staging or test setup and Cloudflare’s documented test keys. Keep production challenges out of end-to-end test jobs. If your test needs a screenshot, arrange for the test environment to render a known page or a test widget state that does not require defeating a production gate.
Can a screenshot API capture a Cloudflare-blocked URL?
An API can capture only what its browser is allowed to render. If Cloudflare serves an interstitial, the result will be that interstitial; it cannot extract destination content that was never delivered. This makes an API useful for documenting the visible challenge, not for bypassing it.

Troubleshooting screenshot results
The image shows only “Checking your browser”
The capture reached the interstitial, not the destination. Save it as challenge evidence, then troubleshoot the authorized visitor session or contact the administrator.
The image is blank
Check the API’s page-verdict and billed headers, retry after confirming the URL, and test the URL in a normal browser. A blank page or failed load should not be interpreted as proof that the destination is empty.
The challenge repeats after every reload
Work through browser, JavaScript, extension, private-window, VPN/proxy and alternate-network checks. Preserve logs, export a HAR and send the Ray ID and error code to the site owner.

The API request times out
Use an explicit client timeout, avoid rapid retries, and inspect the response headers and body before assuming the destination loaded. For long pages or dynamic content, a wait strategy or asynchronous job can help only after the site permits the request; it cannot solve a production challenge.
Practical decision guide
- Need proof of what you see? Use the device screenshot and include the challenge text, code and Ray ID.
- Need the destination page? Resolve authorized access with the site owner; no screenshot method can reveal content not rendered.
- Need repeatable captures of accessible pages? Use ScreenshotNeo or another permitted capture workflow, and inspect its verdict rather than assuming every response is a clean destination shot.

Does taking a screenshot make a Cloudflare challenge pass?
No. It records the current rendered screen; it does not submit or solve the challenge.
Should I send the Ray ID to Cloudflare directly?
Give the Ray ID and error details to the website administrator first, because the administrator controls the site’s Cloudflare configuration.
Can I crop the screenshot before sharing it?
You can crop for privacy, but retain an uncropped copy containing the address, error code and Ray ID for troubleshooting.
