To save an entire webpage, use your browser’s full-page capture feature rather than the normal viewport shortcut. Firefox can save or copy a complete page directly, and Microsoft Edge has a built-in Screenshot tool. Chrome’s documented options in the sources reviewed are extensions rather than a verified native workflow. The right method depends on your browser, how much control you need, and whether the page contains lazy-loaded or moving content.
Choose the quickest method
| Browser or method | Best for | Output and controls |
|---|---|---|
| Firefox Screenshot | Most users who want a built-in tool | Save full page as PNG or copy it to the clipboard |
| Firefox Developer Tools | Repeatable captures, delays, device-pixel-ratio control, or element captures | PNG files, console options, selectors and custom filenames |
| Microsoft Edge Screenshot | Full-page capture with quick markup | Save or copy; full page or selected area; drawing tools |
| Chrome extension | Chrome users who accept installing an add-on | Listings advertise PNG, JPG, PDF and annotation features; verify current permissions and publisher |
| ScreenshotNeo API | Automation, scripts, CI jobs and AI agents | PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF from one request, with controls for dynamic pages |
Browser labels and availability can change. Edge specifically notes that Screenshot availability and functionality may vary by device type, market and browser version.
Save a full-page screenshot in Firefox
Using Firefox’s Screenshot interface
- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Open Firefox’s screenshot interface.
- In the upper-right corner, select Save full page. Choose Save visible instead if you only need the current viewport.
- Select Download to save a PNG in Firefox’s normal download location, or select Copy to place the image on the clipboard.
Mozilla’s support documentation lists Ctrl+S (or Command+S on macOS) for saving and Ctrl+C (or Command+C) for copying. Firefox’s interface and shortcuts can differ by version.
Using Firefox Developer Tools
Developer Tools exposes a more controllable full-page workflow. Open DevTools, open its Settings, find Available Toolbox Buttons, and enable the screenshot button. Check Take a screenshot of the entire page, then click the screenshot icon. Firefox Source Docs say the resulting file is saved in the browser’s Downloads directory.

Using the Web Console command
For a command-driven capture, open the Web Console and enter:
:screenshot --fullpage
The documented helper supports options for different situations:
--delaywaits before the capture, useful when content appears after a short delay.--dprsets the device pixel ratio.--filenamechooses a filename.--clipboardcopies the result rather than only writing a file.--fileforces file writing.--selectorcaptures an element and its descendants.
Use a .png extension for filenames. Reusing an existing filename can overwrite the earlier image, so choose a unique name when preserving versions.
Capture a full webpage in Microsoft Edge
- Open the target page in Edge.
- Choose Screenshot from the page’s right-click menu or from Edge Settings, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose the full-page option, or drag a selection if you only need part of the page.
- Use the overlay to copy or save the result. Edge also lets you draw or add markup before saving.
Microsoft describes this tool as capturing parts of a webpage that would normally require scrolling. It also says the feature can keep moving content such as GIFs and carousels on screen while capturing. That behavior, and the tool’s availability, can vary by device, market and browser version.

Chrome: use a current extension listing carefully
The reviewed Chrome sources identify extension-based options, not an authoritative, current built-in Chrome procedure. GoFullPage’s Chrome Web Store listing shows a latest listed version of 8.7 dated 2026-08-11 and describes work involving long pages, scrolling, fixed elements, frames and PDF export. Another listing, Full Page Screen Capture, advertises annotation and PNG, JPG and PDF export.
Those are marketplace or publisher statements, not independent guarantees. Before installing an extension, check its current publisher, permissions, store status, privacy policy and recent reviews. Remove it if the permissions do not fit your use case. Because extension behavior changes, test the result on a non-sensitive page before relying on it for an archive or report.
Make the capture accurate
Load content before capturing
Full-page tools must deal with content below the initial viewport. Images may be lazy-loaded, a page may append articles while you scroll, and a site may use an inner scrolling panel instead of the document itself. If the result is incomplete, first wait for the page to finish loading and scroll through it once, then capture again. This is a practical recovery step, not a guarantee that every browser handles every layout consistently.
Watch for fixed and sticky elements
Headers, cookie notices, floating chat buttons and sticky sidebars can appear repeatedly or obscure content in a stitched image. Dismiss overlays when possible. If a page has a nested scroll container, capture that element with Firefox’s --selector option or use a tool that supports element selection.

Carousels, GIFs, continuously updating feeds, bot checks and login-gated content can change during a capture. Allow a stable state before saving, and do not assume that a full-page image proves every state a visitor could see. Browser documentation reviewed here does not establish identical handling of lazy images, nested scrolling containers or dynamic layouts across all versions.

Or skip the browser setup: ScreenshotNeo
ScreenshotNeo returns a clean website screenshot or PDF from one request. Before capture it accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
It supports full-page captures with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element captures, dark mode, 12 device presets or any viewport, retina scale, PDF paper sizes and margins, landscape mode and page ranges, custom CSS and JavaScript, pre-capture clicks, hidden selectors, waits for a selector, delay or network idle, blocked ads/trackers/requests/resource types, custom headers, cookies, user agents and Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, image resizing, configurable-TTL caching, signed public-image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work for easier migration.
Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients. Every feature is included on every plan: 1,000 shots per month free with no card, then Starter $5 for 3,000, Growth $15 for 15,000, Pro $39 for 60,000, Scale $99 for 250,000 and Business $249 for 1,000,000. Yearly billing gives two months free.
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for authentication and options. A direct cURL request is:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
The response body is the requested image format or PDF. Check the HTTP status and the X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers in production so your job can distinguish a clean capture from a failed or non-billable result.

The image stops at the first screen
Confirm that you selected Save full page or Edge’s full-page mode rather than a visible-area capture. For Firefox DevTools, enable the entire-page screenshot button. If using an extension, reopen its capture control and check that full-page mode is selected.
Images or sections are missing
Wait for network activity to settle, scroll through the page to trigger lazy loading, close overlays, and capture again. If content lives inside a scrollable panel, target that element rather than the outer document.
The page repeats a header or floating control
Sticky elements can be stitched into multiple positions. Dismiss the element, temporarily hide it with page controls where available, or use Firefox’s selector capture or ScreenshotNeo’s hide-selector and custom-CSS options.
The output is blurry or enormous
In Firefox’s console, adjust --dpr. A higher device-pixel ratio increases detail and file size; a lower one reduces both. ScreenshotNeo offers viewport, retina-scale and image-resizing controls so you can set the output for documentation, social sharing or storage.

The command overwrote an earlier file
Use a new filename with Firefox’s --filename option. The Firefox documentation warns that a later capture using the same filename overwrites the prior image.
A protected page will not capture
Complete the site’s legitimate sign-in or verification in the browser and confirm you have permission to archive the content. Do not attempt to bypass a CAPTCHA or access control. For automated jobs, inspect the response verdict instead of treating every HTTP response as a usable screenshot.
Which option should you use?
- One occasional capture: Firefox or Edge’s built-in feature is the lowest-setup choice.
- Precise Firefox workflow: Use DevTools or
:screenshot --fullpagewhen you need delays, selectors, DPR or repeatable filenames. - Chrome: Review a current extension listing and its permissions; the sources reviewed do not verify a native Chrome path.
- Automation or many URLs: ScreenshotNeo is the first service to try because it produces clean shots, bills only clean results and has a $5 paid plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I save a full webpage directly to the clipboard?

What file type does Firefox’s full-page tool save?
Firefox documents PNG output for its screenshot workflows.
Does a full-page screenshot include content hidden behind a login?
Only content available in the authenticated page state can be captured; do not bypass access controls or verification.
