The best shortcut depends on whether you need the visible screen, a window, a selected region, or the entire scrollable webpage. On Windows, press Windows + Shift + S for the Snipping Tool overlay. In Firefox, Ctrl + Shift + S (Windows/Linux) or Command + Shift + S (macOS) opens Firefox Screenshot, including its “Save full page” option. On Chromebook, use Ctrl + Show Windows for the whole screen or Shift + Ctrl + Show Windows for a selection.
Chrome documents shortcuts for opening DevTools, but the documentation covered here does not verify a dedicated full-page screenshot keystroke. Use the DevTools Command Menu or Firefox’s built-in full-page capture when a complete webpage is the goal.

Windows website screenshot shortcuts
Capture a region, window or full screen
- Press Windows + Shift + S.
- When the Snipping Tool overlay appears, choose rectangle, freeform, window or full-screen snip.
- Select the area or window. The image is copied so you can paste it into an editor, chat or document; use the Snipping Tool notification to open and save or annotate it.
This is a screen capture, not automatically a complete webpage. A long page will be limited to what is currently visible unless you scroll and capture separate sections.
Capture the entire display to the clipboard
Press Print Screen (also labeled PrtSc). Microsoft documents this as a static image snapshot of the entire screen placed in the clipboard. Paste it with Ctrl + V into an image editor or document, then save the file.

When the shortcut does not respond
- On compact keyboards, look for a function-layer PrtSc key and hold Fn if required by the hardware.
- If an external capture utility has claimed the key, open Windows Settings and the Snipping Tool to check its configured shortcut.
- For a webpage taller than the display, use Firefox’s full-page route or a capture service rather than stitching many screen clips.

Windows and Linux
Press Ctrl + Shift + S to open Firefox Screenshot.
macOS
Press Command + Shift + S. Mozilla documents this shortcut as the macOS equivalent.
Select the capture scope
- Open the page in Firefox and invoke the shortcut.
- Drag over a region for a partial capture, or choose the visible-page option for what is currently rendered.
- For a scrollable webpage, select Save full page in the upper-right corner.
- Save the resulting image to your chosen location.
Firefox’s full-page command captures beyond the viewport, making it the clearest browser-native option when you need one image of the complete document. Very long pages, animated content and pages that load more material only after interaction can still affect the result; allow the page to finish loading before invoking the command.
Chromebook screenshot shortcuts
Capture the whole screen
Press Ctrl + Show Windows. The Show Windows key is the one with a rectangle and two vertical lines, usually on the top row. ChromeOS saves the capture through its screenshot workflow.
Capture part of the screen
Press Shift + Ctrl + Show Windows, then click and drag around the area you want. Release to take the partial screenshot.

Chrome: what is and is not a verified shortcut
Chrome’s documented keyboard commands open developer tools:
- Windows/Linux: Ctrl + Shift + C, Ctrl + Shift + J, or Ctrl + Shift + I.
- macOS: Command + Option + C, Command + Option + J, or Command + Option + I.
- Command Menu: Ctrl + Shift + P on Windows/Linux or Command + Shift + P on Mac.
The official material available for this guide does not state a dedicated Chrome full-page screenshot keystroke. Do not treat an extension’s shortcut or an undocumented command as a universal Chrome feature. If you are already in DevTools, open the Command Menu and search for the capture action offered by your installed Chrome version; otherwise, use Firefox for a documented full-page browser workflow.

Windows and Chromebook shortcuts capture pixels currently shown on the display. They are ideal for an error dialog, a design detail, a single viewport or a window. They do not automatically include content below the fold.

Full-page capture
A full-page image must make the browser render and stitch the page’s scrollable document. Firefox’s Save full page command is the documented browser-native path in this guide. Pages with lazy-loaded images, infinite scrolling, fixed headers or content revealed by clicks may require preparation first.
Partial webpage capture
Firefox Screenshot lets you drag a region of the page. On Windows and Chromebook, the equivalent shortcuts select screen pixels, so scroll the page to the desired position before selecting.
Reliable capture checklist
- Wait until fonts, images and key components finish loading.
- Close menus, password prompts and unrelated windows before selecting a region.
- Set the browser zoom deliberately; zoom changes the pixels and dimensions in the output.
- For reproducible work, record the operating system, browser version, viewport size and page URL.
- Check privacy: screenshots can include account names, email addresses, tokens, customer data and personal notifications.
- Review the saved file rather than assuming the clipboard or download completed.
Troubleshooting common failures
The shortcut does nothing
Confirm that the active application has not remapped the keys, that you are pressing the correct Show Windows or Fn key, and that your keyboard layout matches the labels. Try the operating system’s screenshot menu as a fallback.
The full page is cut off
You probably used a viewport capture. In Firefox, reopen Firefox Screenshot and select Save full page. In Chrome, the documented shortcuts above only open DevTools; they do not by themselves prove that a full-page image command is available.

Images or sections are missing
Scroll through the page once to trigger lazy loading, wait for network activity to settle, dismiss consent dialogs and expand required sections, then capture again. Infinite-scroll pages may not have a finite endpoint to save.
The result is blurry
A screen snip records the display’s current pixel density. Increase the window size or display scale where practical, avoid enlarging the saved image afterward, and use a browser or API full-page capture when you need a larger source.
Sticky headers appear repeatedly
Fixed elements can be painted at each stitched viewport. Try Firefox after hiding the header with page controls or CSS, or capture a defined element instead of the complete document.
