Use Chrome DevTools’ Capture full size screenshot command. It captures the entire webpage, including content below the visible browser window, without installing an extension: open the page, open DevTools, press Command+Shift+P, search for “screenshot,” and choose Capture full size screenshot.
The built-in Chrome method
This workflow is the best starting point for a complete webpage image on macOS. A normal Mac screenshot records the display, a window, or a selected rectangle. DevTools instead asks Chrome to render the whole document, including material outside the current viewport.
- Open the page. Navigate to the webpage in Chrome and let its important content load. If the page has a cookie dialog, sign-in wall, animation, or lazy-loaded media, deal with it before capturing.
- Open DevTools. Right-click the page and select Inspect. You can also use Chrome’s standard DevTools keyboard shortcut if you already know it.
- Open the Command Menu. Press Command+Shift+P. On Mac, this is the DevTools Command Menu shortcut.
- Find the screenshot command. Type
screenshot. The filtered list should show Chrome’s screenshot actions. - Capture the document. Select Capture full size screenshot. Chrome renders the page beyond the visible viewport and saves the resulting image through its normal screenshot/download flow.
- Inspect the result. Open the saved image and check the top, bottom, navigation, images, and any sections that were important to you. Very tall or dynamic documents can behave differently from a simple static page.
The command’s name matters: Capture screenshot is generally a viewport capture, while Capture full size screenshot is intended for the entire page.
Why the Mac screenshot shortcut is not enough
macOS screenshot controls are useful when you need a visible screen grab. They can capture the whole display, an individual window, or a selected area. None of those choices inherently means “scroll through the webpage and include everything below the fold.” For a complete Chrome document, use the DevTools command instead.

If you cannot find the command
Use the Command Menu rather than hunting through panels
DevTools contains several panels and menus, and their exact arrangement can change. Press Command+Shift+P while DevTools has focus, then search for screenshot. The Command Menu is the most direct discovery path.
Confirm that DevTools has focus
Click inside the DevTools window before pressing the shortcut. If the page has focus, the keystroke may be interpreted by the webpage or by macOS instead.
Check Chrome’s build and UI state
A Chromium issue report describes the screenshot options missing in one reported macOS Chrome build, version 151.0.7922.71. That individual report does not show that the command is broadly broken, but it does mean availability can vary by build or UI state. Update Chrome when practical, reopen DevTools, and try the Command Menu again.

What full-page capture does—and does not guarantee
Below-the-fold content
Chrome’s full-size command is designed to include content that is not currently visible in the viewport. It is not limited to the screen area you can see.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Lazy-loaded images
Some sites request images only after an element approaches the viewport. A full-page render may not cause every implementation to load every image. Wait for the page to finish loading, scroll through it once if necessary, and inspect the saved image. Missing media is a reason to try another capture approach rather than assuming the file is complete.
Infinite scroll and dynamic pages
An infinite-scroll feed may not have a fixed end when Chrome begins the capture. Live dashboards, animated layouts, and pages that replace content while scrolling can also produce an image that differs from what you expected. Capture a stable, finite state when possible.

Frames, authentication, and blocked content
Embedded frames can have their own loading and access rules. A page behind authentication, a bot check, or a failed request may show only a gate or error in the screenshot. Sign in through the normal site flow, resolve legitimate prompts, and verify that the intended content is visible before capture.
Very tall documents
DevTools may resize the viewport while laying out a full-page screenshot. This is part of the capture process, not evidence that your Mac display changed permanently. Extremely long pages can also expose rendering limits; open the saved result and check it rather than relying on the command completing without an error.
Built-in DevTools versus an extension
| Question | Chrome DevTools | GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture |
|---|---|---|
| Installation | No extension installation; use the tools already in Chrome. | Available as a Chrome Web Store extension, so installation is required. |
| Full-page intent | Chrome documents the command as capturing the whole page, including content outside the viewport. | The listing identifies it as a full-page capture extension. |
| Dynamic-page reliability | Not established for every lazy-loading, infinite-scroll, frame, or animated page. | Comparative reliability is not established here. |
| Privacy and permissions | No additional extension permissions are involved. | Review the extension’s current permissions and privacy information yourself; the listing alone does not establish that it is safer or endorsed. |
| Best use | A built-in, repeatable workflow for a normal finite document. | An optional dedicated workflow if you prefer an extension interface. |
The Chrome Web Store lists GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture, with changelog entries visible through September 24, 2026. Its listing establishes availability, not superior performance, privacy, endorsement, or affiliation. Keep DevTools as the primary method when you do not want to install an extension.

Troubleshooting checklist
The screenshot command is absent
- Click DevTools, press Command+Shift+P, and search again.
- Close and reopen DevTools, then update and restart Chrome.
- Remember that the documented macOS issue concerns a particular build, 151.0.7922.71; do not assume every Mac installation has the same problem.
The image stops at the visible area
- Make sure you chose Capture full size screenshot, not the ordinary capture command.
- Open the saved file and confirm its pixel dimensions.
- If you used macOS’s screen controls, repeat the process from DevTools; system capture is not scrolling webpage capture.
Images or sections are missing
- Wait for network activity and visible loading indicators to settle.
- Scroll through the page once to trigger lazy-loaded assets, then run the full-size command again.
- Check whether an authentication gate, consent dialog, bot check, or failed request replaced the content.
- For an infinite feed or live dashboard, capture a deliberately bounded state or use a service that lets you control waiting and page behavior.
The layout looks distorted
Full-page capture can involve a temporary viewport resize. Responsive breakpoints, sticky headers, and scripts that react to viewport changes may therefore render differently. Test at the viewport width you need and inspect the complete file.
The capture fails or Chrome becomes unresponsive
Shorten an exceptionally long or constantly changing page where possible, close unrelated tabs, and retry after the page reaches a stable state. If the content is essential and the built-in command remains unreliable, use the API workflow below.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. It handles consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page result and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a full-page screenshot include content below the fold?
Yes. Chrome’s DevTools command is specifically designed to include content outside the current viewport, subject to the page’s own loading, access, and rendering behavior.
Can I capture a full webpage without opening DevTools?
You can install a dedicated extension such as GoFullPage, or use an API such as ScreenshotNeo. macOS’s regular screenshot controls alone do not scroll through a webpage.
Where is the screenshot saved?
Chrome saves the resulting image through its normal screenshot/download behavior. Check the downloaded file and your Chrome download location rather than assuming a particular folder.
Will full-page capture work on an infinite-scroll site?
Not reliably for every implementation. Infinite feeds and live pages may have no fixed end or may change while Chrome renders them; capture a bounded, stable state when accuracy matters.
