In Chrome, install a full-page screenshot add-on such as GoFullPage, click its toolbar button, let it scroll and assemble the page, then export the result. This guide covers both browser workflows, output choices, long-page caveats, and an API alternative for automated captures.
Choose the right full-page screenshot method
Firefox includes a native full-page screenshot workflow, so you can capture a page without installing an add-on. Chrome users can use a browser extension that scrolls through the page and combines the visible sections into a single result. Firefox add-ons are another option if you want features such as editing before export.
- Choose Firefox’s built-in tool for a quick manual capture without an extension.
- Choose a Chrome add-on when you are using Chrome and want a scrolling screenshot saved as an image or PDF.
- Consider a Firefox add-on when its additional capture or editing controls suit your workflow.
- Use an API when screenshots need to be generated from code or incorporated into an automated process rather than taken manually in a browser.
Browser controls, extension availability, permissions, and export options can change. Check the current browser interface and extension listing before installing or following a workflow that no longer matches your version.
Take a full-page screenshot in Firefox without an add-on
Firefox’s built-in Screenshot tool can save the full page as an image. Mozilla’s Support instructions describe selecting Save full page from the screenshot interface.
#1 Best Overall
- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Open the page context menu or use the Firefox toolbar Screenshot control.
- Choose Save full page.
- Download the generated image.
This is the simplest route when you only need a manual capture and do not need extension-specific editing or export features. Mozilla’s [Firefox screenshot instructions] document the interface and workflow.
Use Firefox Developer Tools instead
Firefox Developer Tools also provide a full-page screenshot command. Open Developer Tools, enter :screenshot --fullpage in the command interface, and run it. Mozilla documents that the command saves a PNG of the entire webpage in Downloads. See the [Firefox Developer Tools command documentation] for the screenshot helper.
Capture a full webpage in Chrome with an add-on
Chrome add-ons provide the scrolling capture flow: the extension moves through the page, captures its sections, and assembles the result. GoFullPage and FullPage Capture are examples described in the Chrome Web Store listings.
- Install a full-page screenshot extension from the Chrome Web Store. Review its current permissions and privacy information before adding it.
- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Click the extension’s toolbar icon and allow it to scroll through the page and assemble the capture.
- When the result opens, choose an available export format such as PNG, JPEG, or PDF.
For the listed workflows and formats, consult the [GoFullPage Chrome Web Store listing] and [FullPage Capture Chrome Web Store listing]. Store listings and extension behavior may change, so confirm the current details before relying on a particular export option.
Firefox add-ons: capture and editing alternatives
If you prefer an add-on in Firefox, GoFullPage’s Mozilla listing describes one-click capture, opening the result in a tab, and image or PDF downloads. Its listing also warns that very large captures may be split into separate images, which matters if you need a single continuous file. See the [GoFullPage Firefox listing].
Rank #2
OpenScreenShot’s Firefox listing describes full-page, visible-area, and selected-region capture, along with local editing and image or PDF export. The listing describes local processing and export; review its current permissions and privacy disclosures before installing. See the [OpenScreenShot Firefox listing].
Choose PNG, JPEG, or PDF
Use an image format when you need a visual capture to share or include in another image-based workflow. Use PDF when the destination is document-style delivery. The extension listings describe PNG or JPEG image output and PDF options, but exact availability can vary by add-on and current version; check the result screen before capturing a page you must deliver in a specific format.
| Need | Suitable output | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Share or embed a visual capture | PNG or JPEG, if offered by the selected tool | Whether the export is one continuous image or split into pieces |
| Document-style delivery | PDF, if offered by the selected tool | Whether the extension’s current export flow produces the format you need |
What to expect on very long or complex pages
A scrolling screenshot is assembled from captures taken as the browser moves down the page. This approach can be useful for pages longer than the visible browser window, but a very large capture may not remain one image: GoFullPage’s Firefox listing warns that very large captures may be split into separate images. If a single file is essential, check the output before sharing it.

Browser add-on or native tool: practical differences
| Approach | Best fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Firefox built-in Screenshot | A quick manual full-page capture in Firefox | No add-on installation, but fewer add-on-specific options are described in the documented workflow |
| Chrome screenshot extension | Scrolling capture in Chrome with image or PDF export options | Requires installing an extension and reviewing its current permissions |
| Firefox add-on | Additional workflows such as selected-region capture or local editing | Features and privacy details depend on the current listing and add-on version |
| Screenshot API | Captures initiated by code, services, or AI-agent workflows | Requires an API key and a request rather than a manual browser capture |
Or skip the browser setup
For developer workflows, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return a screenshot or PDF. The request below uses the API’s documented endpoint and parameters; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the available options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your key and change the target URL as needed. ScreenshotNeo’s capture options include full-page screenshots with lazy images loaded, output as PNG, JPEG, or WebP, and PDF settings such as paper size, margins, landscape orientation, and page ranges. It also supports element capture by CSS selector, custom CSS and JavaScript, device and viewport settings, and wait conditions.
- Cookie or consent banners are accepted like a visitor and more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; each step can be turned off.
- Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Responses include
X-Page-VerdictandX-Billedheaders to indicate the page verdict and billing status. - An MCP server provides
take_screenshot,get_page_info, andcapture_pdftools for AI agents and MCP clients such as Claude and Cursor. - The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card required. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots; yearly billing gives two months free, and every feature is on every plan.

Troubleshooting full-page captures
The screenshot only shows the visible area
In Firefox, choose Save full page, not an option limited to the visible screen. In Chrome, make sure you are using the extension’s full-page capture action and let its scrolling and assembly process finish.
The capture is split into multiple images
Very large GoFullPage captures may be split into separate images, according to its Firefox listing. Check whether the result can be exported in the format you need, or use a different capture method if one continuous image is essential.
The extension or export option is missing
Confirm that the add-on is installed and enabled, then review its current toolbar controls and store listing. Export formats and interfaces can change, and the Chrome listings describe available options rather than guaranteeing an identical interface in every release.

You need a PDF but only see an image
Check the extension’s result tab for a PDF export option. GoFullPage and OpenScreenShot listings describe PDF downloads, but if the current version does not offer the format in your workflow, use a tool that explicitly provides PDF export or Firefox’s native image capture for an image-based result.
You are unsure whether an extension is appropriate for sensitive pages
Before installation, inspect the extension’s permissions and current privacy disclosures. OpenScreenShot’s listing describes local processing and export, but that statement does not replace reviewing the current listing and permissions yourself.
