ApiFlash vs URL2PNG: Which Screenshot API Is Better in 2026?

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Short answer: ApiFlash is the better default for most developers in 2026 because it has a free tier, the lower entry price, a simple access-key API, and documented Chrome/AWS Lambda rendering. URL2PNG is the better specialist choice when dedicated workers, Fastly CDN delivery, custom CSS, and a no-queue model justify a higher minimum spend. If you are open to a third option, ScreenshotNeo is the first alternative to try: it removes consent banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture, bills only clean shots, and starts with 1,000 free screenshots per month.

The right choice depends on fresh-render volume, cache policy, capture controls, throughput expectations, and signing requirements—not on an unverified claim that one service is universally faster or more accurate. No independent benchmark establishes a winner for latency, pixel accuracy, uptime, or failure rate.

ApiFlash vs URL2PNG at a glance

Service Best fit Entry offer Distinctive capabilities
ScreenshotNeo Developers who want clean captures and an AI-agent integration 1,000 screenshots/month free, no card; paid plans from $5 for 3,000 Consent and popup removal, clean-shot billing, MCP server, 63 capture options
ApiFlash Most general-purpose projects and price-sensitive teams 100 screenshots/month free; $7 for 1,000 Chrome on AWS Lambda, full-page and responsive capture, PNG/JPEG/WebP, S3 export
URL2PNG Teams needing dedicated workers, CDN delivery, CSS injection, and no queued images $29/month for 5,000 fresh screenshots Fastly CDN, dedicated workers, full-page capture, custom CSS, 30-day cache

ApiFlash is the recommendation for a conventional REST integration. URL2PNG becomes more attractive when its infrastructure and rendering controls solve a specific operational problem. ScreenshotNeo should be evaluated first when removing visitor-interface clutter and paying only for successful clean captures matter.

Pricing for 1,000, 10,000, and larger workloads

These are listed monthly prices and included screenshot allowances. They are not an independent cost benchmark, and neither provider’s overage policy is established here.

Monthly volume ApiFlash URL2PNG What the price means
1,000 screenshots $7 Lite plan (after the 100/month free tier) Smallest plan is $29 for 5,000 fresh screenshots ApiFlash has the lower minimum commitment.
10,000 screenshots $35 Medium plan Traction is $99 for 20,000 fresh screenshots ApiFlash costs less if the listed quota is sufficient.
50,000 screenshots The $180 Large plan includes 100,000 Killinit is $199 for 50,000 ApiFlash offers more nominal capacity at the listed Large price.
100,000 screenshots $180 Large plan Enterprise pricing is by contact; the listed tiers stop at 50,000 URL2PNG’s comparable price is not stated.

At the listed tiers, the arithmetic price per included screenshot is approximately $0.007 for ApiFlash Lite, $0.0035 for Medium, and $0.0018 for Large. URL2PNG is approximately $0.0058 at Bootstrapped ($29/5,000), $0.00495 at Traction ($99/20,000), and $0.00398 at Killinit ($199/50,000). Those figures describe plan allowance, not necessarily the cost of every request: URL2PNG says cached loads do not count, while ApiFlash exposes cache controls and a separate fresh option.

Rendering controls and output formats

ApiFlash

ApiFlash says it is based on Google Chrome and AWS Lambda. Its product documentation describes HTTPS requests, full-page screenshots, responsive captures, automatic capture timing, ad blocking, cookie-banner hiding, and export to Amazon S3. Output can be PNG, JPEG, or WebP. The documented request parameters include:

  • width and height for the viewport.
  • full_page for a page-length capture.
  • format for JPEG, PNG, or WebP.
  • quality for formats that support quality settings.
  • delay and scrolling controls for pages that render after navigation.
  • ttl for cache lifetime and fresh to request a new capture.
  • response_type for choosing how the result is returned.

This is a strong baseline for dashboards, responsive previews, reports, and automated page archives. The documented material does not establish that ApiFlash emulates every named phone model; use explicit viewport dimensions when you need deterministic layouts.

URL2PNG

URL2PNG advertises thumbnails or one-to-one resolution, entire-page capture, viewport control, user-agent and language overrides, CSS injection, JavaScript-controlled capture, and rendering for graphs, canvas, webfonts, CSS3, SVG, and video. Its plans include full-page screenshots, custom CSS, no watermarks, hotlinking, downloads, and no queued images.

Logitech C270 720p Webcam Plug-and-Play Wide Screen Video Calling - Black
  • Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
  • Crisp HD 720p/30 fps video calls with diagonal 55° field of view and auto light correction. Compatible with popular platforms including Skype and Zoom.
  • The built-in noise-reducing mic makes sure your voice comes across clearly up to 1.5 meters away, even if you’re in busy surroundings.
  • C270’s RightLight 2 feature adjusts to lighting conditions, producing brighter, contrasted images to help you look good in all your conference calls.
  • The adjustable universal clip lets you attach the camera securely to your screen or laptop, or fold the clip and set the webcam on a shelf. You’re always ready for your next video call.

The quickstart documents options for viewport, full-page mode, thumbnail width, a custom CSS URL, a JavaScript “say cheese” trigger, delay, Accept-Language, user agent, and TTL. The documented default viewport is 1480×1037. URL2PNG’s custom CSS and JavaScript trigger are especially useful when the page needs a stylesheet or an explicit signal before capture; ApiFlash’s public parameter list instead emphasizes delay, scrolling, and timing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

ScreenshotNeo

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its options cover full-page capture with lazy images loaded; one element by CSS selector; dark mode; 12 device presets or any viewport; retina scale; PDF paper size, margins, landscape, and page ranges; HTML/CSS-to-image; custom CSS and JavaScript; clicking an element before capture; hiding selectors; waiting for a selector, delay, or network idle; blocking ads, trackers, requests, or resource types; custom headers, cookies, user agent, and Authorization; timezone and geolocation; transparent backgrounds; image resizing; configurable cache TTL; signed links for public <img> tags; asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks; bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call; a usage API; and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can reduce migration effort.

Caching, freshness, and repeat captures

ApiFlash cache behavior

ApiFlash documents a default cache TTL of 86,400 seconds and a maximum TTL of 30 days. Set fresh when a new render is required, and use ttl when you want a different reuse window. A cache-aware design can keep recurring previews inexpensive, while scheduled or user-requested updates should explicitly define when stale content is unacceptable.

URL2PNG cache behavior

URL2PNG documents a default TTL of 2,592,000 seconds (30 days). Its quickstart also describes a unique value to force a new capture. Because cached loads do not count against the plan, retaining a stable request for unchanged content can materially reduce fresh-render consumption.

Operational rule

Choose a cache key that includes every visual input: URL, viewport, language, user agent, CSS version, authentication state, and any data revision. Otherwise a valid cache can return the wrong visual variant even though the target URL is unchanged.

Throughput, delivery, and infrastructure

ApiFlash documents a limit of 20 requests per second with a burst size of 400. Requests above that limit can receive HTTP 429. Implement bounded concurrency, exponential backoff, and a queue in your application rather than retrying every failure immediately. ApiFlash describes AWS Lambda-based scalability, but that positioning is not a latency guarantee.

URL2PNG emphasizes dedicated workers—10 on Bootstrapped, 15 on Traction, and 35 on Killinit—plus Fastly CDN delivery, redundant auto-scaling infrastructure, and no queued images. Those are useful distinctions for teams that value predictable worker allocation and CDN-served results. They do not prove that URL2PNG is faster for your pages; page complexity, geographic distance, cache state, and destination-site behavior still dominate real-world timing.

Authentication and integration differences

ApiFlash access-key requests

ApiFlash accepts GET requests at https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage and also documents a POST equivalent. Requests require an access key and a target URL. Keep the key on your server, URL-encode the target, and treat the returned image or response metadata as untrusted input until your application validates it.

cURL

curl -G "https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage"
  --data-urlencode "access_key=YOUR_API_KEY"
  --data-urlencode "url=https://example.com"
  --data "format=png"
  --data "full_page=true"
  -o example.png

Python

import requests

params = {
    "access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY",
    "url": "https://example.com",
    "format": "png",
    "full_page": "true",
}
response = requests.get(
    "https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage",
    params=params,
    timeout=90,
)
response.raise_for_status()
with open("example.png", "wb") as image:
    image.write(response.content)

Node.js

const params = new URLSearchParams({
  access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY',
  url: 'https://example.com',
  format: 'png',
  full_page: 'true'
});

const response = await fetch(
  `https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage?${params}`,
  { signal: AbortSignal.timeout(90_000) }
);
if (!response.ok) throw new Error(`ApiFlash returned ${response.status}`);
const image = Buffer.from(await response.arrayBuffer());
await Bun.write('example.png', image);

If your Node runtime does not provide Bun.write, use the equivalent filesystem write for that runtime. The request itself is standard HTTPS and can be sent from any server-side environment.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

URL2PNG signed requests

URL2PNG uses a signed URL containing an API key, an MD5 token generated from the query string and secret, and the target URL. Build the query exactly as its quickstart specifies, generate the token with the provider’s ordering and encoding rules, and never expose the secret in browser code. Its options include viewport, full-page mode, thumbnail width, custom CSS URL, JavaScript capture trigger, delay, language, user agent, TTL, and the unique cache-busting value. Because the precise endpoint host and canonicalization rules are not stated here, copy those values directly from URL2PNG’s current quickstart rather than adapting an example from another signing scheme.

Which service should you choose?

Choose ApiFlash when

  • You want to start with a free allowance or spend $7 for 1,000 screenshots.
  • Your integration should be a conventional GET or POST request with an access key.
  • You need Chrome rendering, full-page and responsive captures, common image formats, timing controls, and S3 export.
  • Your workload can stay within the documented 20 requests-per-second rate and 400-request burst.

Choose URL2PNG when

  • You need dedicated workers and Fastly CDN delivery.
  • Custom CSS injection, JavaScript-triggered capture, language overrides, or no queued images are central requirements.
  • You can commit to at least $29 per month and do not need a free account.
  • Thirty-day caching and a unique value fit your freshness model.

Try ScreenshotNeo first when

  • Consent banners, newsletter popups, or chat widgets would contaminate the image.
  • You want bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits identified and not billed as clean shots.
  • An MCP server for Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client is useful.
  • You want 1,000 screenshots a month free with no card, then a $5 plan for 3,000.

Troubleshooting checklist

ApiFlash returns HTTP 429

You exceeded the documented 20 requests per second or burst of 400. Reduce concurrency, queue work, honor Retry-After when present, and retry with exponential backoff. Do not increase parallelism on each retry.

The screenshot is stale

Check cache settings. For ApiFlash, use fresh or lower ttl. For URL2PNG, change the unique value or adjust TTL. Make sure your cache key changes when authenticated content, CSS, locale, or viewport changes.

Lazy content is missing

Use full-page mode and a delay or scrolling strategy. Confirm that the page actually loads the content without an interaction or authentication step. A screenshot service cannot render content that the origin refuses to serve.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

URL2PNG reports an invalid signature

Recreate the MD5 token from the exact canonical query string, secret, URL encoding, parameter order, and target URL rules in the current quickstart. Keep signing server-side and log the canonical string without logging the secret.

The page is blocked or blank

Check the destination directly from the same region and user-agent assumptions. Bot checks, authentication walls, robots decisions, JavaScript errors, and origin timeouts can all produce a blank or incomplete result. Neither ApiFlash nor URL2PNG has an independently verified failure-rate advantage.

  • Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
  • HD lighting adjustment and autofocus: The Logitech webcam automatically fine-tunes the lighting, producing bright, razor-sharp images even in low-light settings. This makes it a great webcam for streaming and an ideal web camera for laptop use

  • Full HD 1080p video calling and recording at 30 fps. You'll make a strong impression with this PC webcam that features crisp, clearly detailed, and vibrantly colored video

The output is too large

Use WebP or JPEG where lossless PNG is unnecessary, set an appropriate quality value in ApiFlash, constrain viewport dimensions, or request a thumbnail. For long pages, consider a PDF or a targeted element capture instead of one enormous bitmap.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo makes the capture a single HTTP request. The service accepts consent banners like a visitor, removes more than 60 known consent platforms plus newsletter popups and chat widgets before the shot, and reports whether a response was a clean shot and whether it was billed. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Its MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf to Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

There is also a Python request:

import requests

Frequently Asked Questions

Does URL2PNG have a free account?

No. URL2PNG’s FAQ says it does not offer free accounts; the smallest listed plan is Bootstrapped at $29 per month for 5,000 freshly generated screenshots.

Can ApiFlash export screenshots to Amazon S3?

Yes. ApiFlash’s product page lists S3 export alongside Chrome rendering, full-page and responsive capture, and PNG, JPEG, and WebP output.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is URL2PNG’s default viewport and cache TTL?

The documented defaults are a 1480×1037 viewport and a 2,592,000-second TTL, which is 30 days.

Are ApiFlash and URL2PNG independently benchmarked here?

No. The available product material does not establish an independent comparison of latency, pixel accuracy, uptime, or failure rate, so workload-specific testing is required for those questions.
