You usually don’t need an extension to take a webpage screenshot in Microsoft Edge. Press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page or Capture area, then annotate, copy, or save the result. Install an extension when you specifically need an export or editing workflow Edge doesn’t provide, or want screen recording alongside screenshots.
Start with Edge’s built-in Screenshot tool
Edge’s native tool is the simplest first choice for capturing a page without installing anything. Microsoft documents it as a way to capture either an entire webpage—including content beyond the visible screen—or a selected area, then mark up and share the result.
- Open the webpage you want to capture in Edge.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose Capture full page for the entire webpage, or Capture area for a region you select.
- Use the markup tools if needed, then copy or save the capture.
Microsoft also says Screenshot is available from the right-click menu and Edge Settings. The exact availability and functionality can vary by device type, market, and browser version, so if the shortcut or option is missing, check those entry points and whether Edge is up to date.
Full page or area?
Use Capture full page when you need a long article, a complete landing page, or another webpage that extends below the fold. It is designed to capture the page in one screenshot without requiring you to scroll and assemble images yourself. Use Capture area when only one section matters—for example, a chart, a form, or a specific error message—and you don’t want to include the rest of the page.

Markup and moving content
Edge supports markup with pen or touch, which is useful for calling attention to something before you share a capture. Microsoft also says Screenshot keeps moving content such as videos, GIFs, and web carousels active while capturing. That is useful when a page contains animation, but it does not mean every frame or state of moving content will be saved; a screenshot is still a capture of a moment, not a recording.
When an Edge screenshot extension is worth installing
An extension makes sense when its particular workflow saves you time or produces an output you need. It is not automatically better at taking a full-page screenshot: Edge already provides that basic capability. Before adding an extension, decide whether the missing piece is export format, annotation, recording, or a different capture workflow.
- Stay with native Edge Screenshot for occasional full-page or area captures, quick markup, and copying or saving the result.
- Try GoFullPage if its image or PDF downloads, drag-and-drop output, or premium editor match your workflow.
- Try Scrnli if you want screen recording in the same extension as full-page, selected-area, and visible-screen screenshots.
- Consider a screenshot API if captures need to run from code, on a schedule, or as part of an automated workflow rather than from a person clicking in Edge.
Installing an extension adds workflow overhead and means granting another browser component access. Check the extension’s permissions and current listing before installing it. Microsoft’s support guidance says Edge extensions are managed through the Edge Add-ons site and that compatible Chrome Web Store extensions can also be used; compatibility and available features can change.

The options below are based on Microsoft’s feature description and the respective Edge Add-ons listings. Listing descriptions are vendor or marketplace claims, not independent performance tests.

The Screenshot in Page listing describes version 1.6 and says it was updated December 13, 2022. That listing information alone does not establish current compatibility; check the live listing before relying on it.
What to know before capturing a long or complex page
Very long pages
For routine full-page captures, try Edge’s native option first. If an extension is splitting a very large page into several images, as GoFullPage’s listing says can happen, decide whether separate pieces are acceptable or whether you need another output. A PDF or a server-side capture may suit a document workflow better, but output and page handling depend on the tool and settings.

Lazy-loaded content and scrolling regions
A full-page capture is not a guarantee that every element has loaded. Some sites fetch images or content only after you scroll, and a page can contain its own scrollable panels inside the main page. If something is missing, first scroll through the page normally and wait for it to finish loading, then capture again. If the content lives inside a nested panel, test whether the tool captures that panel as expected; the available descriptions do not establish how each option handles every site’s custom scrolling behavior.
Privacy and permissions
A screenshot can include account details, private messages, or other information visible on the page. Review the capture before copying, saving, or sharing it. For an extension, read its current permissions and listing details and install it only if its capture or editing features justify that access. If you only need the built-in tool’s basic capture and markup workflow, using Edge’s native feature avoids adding an extension.

- Try the built-in tool first. Press Ctrl+Shift+S and check whether full-page or area capture plus markup and saving meet the need.
- Name the missing capability. If you need image/PDF export or an editor, evaluate GoFullPage. If you need recording with screenshots, evaluate Scrnli.
- Verify the current listing. Confirm the extension is available and compatible for your Edge version, and review its permissions before installation. Listing descriptions can change.
- Test on the actual page. Check whether the content you care about appears, particularly on long pages, animated sections, and pages that load content as you scroll.
- Use an API when the workflow is code-driven. If a person does not need to operate the browser for each capture, an API may be a better fit than a browser extension.
Troubleshooting Edge webpage screenshots
The shortcut does nothing
Feature availability can vary by device, market, and Edge version. Try opening Screenshot from the page’s right-click menu or Edge Settings instead. If Screenshot is absent there too, check your browser version and whether the feature is available in your environment; don’t assume a third-party extension will be permitted on a managed device.

The capture contains only the visible area
Choose Capture full page, not Capture area. If the full-page option is missing, availability may differ by browser version or device. An extension such as GoFullPage is an alternative to evaluate, but check its current listing and test on your target page.
Part of the page is blank or missing
Wait for the page to finish loading and scroll through it once before taking another capture. This can help when images or content load only as you scroll. If the missing part is within a nested scroll panel, capture that area separately or test an extension on the page; the listings do not promise consistent handling of all custom page layouts.
The result is split into multiple images
GoFullPage’s listing notes that very large pages may be split into separate images. If one continuous output is important, try Edge’s built-in full-page capture or assess whether the extension offers an export format that works for your use. Test with the real page rather than assuming a listing’s general description covers its dimensions.

You cannot find the saved file
Edge’s Screenshot tool can copy or save the result. Screenshot in Page’s listing says its captures go to the browser’s default download directory. Check that directory and the browser’s download history, and distinguish a copied capture from a saved file.

Can Edge take a screenshot of a whole webpage without an extension?
Yes. Use Ctrl+Shift+S and select Capture full page, when the feature is available in your Edge version and environment.
Does a screenshot capture a video as a recording?
No. Microsoft says moving content such as videos, GIFs, and carousels stays active during capture; Screenshot produces an image capture, not a video recording. Use a recording tool such as Scrnli if recording is what you need.
Can I use a Chrome Web Store extension in Edge?
Microsoft says compatible Chrome Web Store extensions can also be used in Edge. Compatibility is not guaranteed for every extension, so check its current listing and test it in your setup.
