Fastest method: open the page in Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page, then mark up, copy, or save the result. Full-page capture includes content below the visible window without manual scrolling. For a visible region only, choose the area-capture option instead.
Microsoft now calls this tool Screenshot; older Microsoft instructions call it Web Capture. The keyboard shortcut and workflow are the same guidance described in Microsoft’s current feature documentation.
Use Edge’s built-in Screenshot tool
- Open the webpage you want to capture in Microsoft Edge. Let the page finish loading, including any content that appears after scripts run.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S. This opens Edge’s Screenshot workflow. You can also find Screenshot in the Settings and more menu; on supported installations it is available from the page context menu as well.
- Choose Capture full page for the entire webpage, including below-the-fold content. Microsoft describes this as capturing the page “with no scrolling required.” This is the correct option for an article, documentation page, landing page, or other page that extends beyond the screen.
- When you need only part of the page, choose the selected-area capture option and drag around the region. This is useful for a chart, a paragraph, a product card, or a form without including the rest of the page.
- Use the pen or touch tools to add markup if required. Then use the available copy or save action. The exact save-dialog appearance and output details can vary by Edge version and operating system, so follow the destination and filename prompts shown on your device.
Microsoft’s feature overview calls Screenshot a way to “turn anything on the web into a shareable image.” That is Microsoft’s product description, not an independent usability test. See the current Screenshot feature page and Microsoft’s older Web Capture guide.
Choose the right capture scope
| What you need | Edge choice | What it captures |
|---|---|---|
| The complete webpage, including content below the window | Capture full page | The page as one full-page capture without manually scrolling |
| A specific portion of the webpage | Selected-area capture | Only the rectangle you select |
| A visible Windows region, window, or screen | Windows Snipping Tool | Screen pixels rather than a browser-aware, scrolling webpage capture |
Use full-page capture when context matters: a complete tutorial, terms page, long receipt, or design review. Use area capture when privacy or focus matters and you do not want navigation bars, unrelated text, or other page content in the image.

What to do when full-page capture looks wrong
Lazy-loaded images or content
Some sites load images only as you approach them. Edge’s full-page result may therefore differ from what appears after you manually visit every section. If an important image is missing, allow the page to settle, interact with the page as needed, and try the capture again. A site can also change its layout while the capture is being assembled.
Sticky headers, animations, and changing content
Fixed navigation bars, cookie dialogs, live scores, rotating banners, and animations can appear in the result. Dismiss overlays before pressing Ctrl+Shift+S when you have permission to do so. For a time-sensitive page, capture after the exact state you need is visible; Edge is capturing the rendered page, not a static source file.
Private or restricted pages
Screenshot operates on what your signed-in browser can display. Do not distribute a capture of confidential, paid, or personal material unless the owner’s terms and your organization’s policy allow it. Redact sensitive details with markup or an image editor before sharing.
Copy, mark up, and save the result
- Copy: use Edge’s copy action when you want to paste the capture into a document, chat, ticket, or image-capable editor.
- Markup: use the pen or touch controls to circle an issue, draw an arrow, or obscure a detail. Keep annotations outside text you may need to read later.
- Save: choose save and follow the location and filename prompts. Microsoft documents the copy and save actions, but does not promise one universal filename, format, or dialog sequence across every platform and Edge release.
If the image will be used in a report, record the page URL and capture date separately. A screenshot is a visual record of one rendered moment; it does not preserve the page’s links, accessibility structure, or later revisions.

When Edge Screenshot is missing
On a work or school computer, an administrator may control the feature. Microsoft’s Edge policy documentation names the setting WebCaptureEnabled and notes that Screenshot (previously Web Capture) appears in the context menu, Settings and more menu, and with Ctrl+Shift+S when the policy is enabled or not configured. If none of those entry points exists, ask your administrator whether that policy is being enforced rather than changing managed settings yourself. Check the WebCaptureEnabled policy documentation.
Use Windows Snipping Tool for a visible screen area
When you only need what is currently visible, press Windows logo key+Shift+S to open the Snipping Tool overlay. Microsoft documents rectangular, window, full-screen, and freeform snips.
- Press Windows logo key+Shift+S.
- Select rectangular, window, full-screen, or freeform mode.
- Select the visible screen area or window.
- Use the notification and Snipping Tool controls to annotate, copy, or save the snip.
Snipping Tool is a screen-capture utility, not a demonstrated replacement for Edge’s scrolling full-page webpage capture. If the page extends below the window, return to Edge and use Capture full page. Microsoft’s instructions are in Use Snipping Tool to capture screenshots.

Or skip the browser setup: ScreenshotNeo
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. It can capture a URL as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF without opening Edge manually. Before capture it accepts cookie or consent banners as a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and each response reports the page verdict and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for authentication and all options. A basic request is:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
For recurring captures, ScreenshotNeo supports full-page shots with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets plus custom viewports, retina scale, PDF paper size/margins/orientation/page ranges, HTML/CSS-to-image, custom CSS and JavaScript, pre-capture clicks, hidden selectors, waits for a selector, delay, or network idle, ad/tracker/request/resource blocking, custom headers, cookies, user agents and Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, selectable cache TTL, signed links for public <img> tags, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, an OpenAPI specification, and familiar parameter names that ease migration from other screenshot APIs.

Troubleshooting checklist
The shortcut does nothing
- Click the Edge window first so it has keyboard focus.
- Try Screenshot from Settings and more or the page context menu.
- On a managed device, ask whether WebCaptureEnabled is disabling the feature.
The capture contains only what is visible
You likely selected area capture or used Snipping Tool. Reopen Edge Screenshot with Ctrl+Shift+S and select Capture full page.
A popup or banner covers the page
Close the overlay before capture when the site permits it. If it cannot be dismissed, select a clean region or use a capture workflow that supports selector hiding and consent handling, such as ScreenshotNeo.
The page changed between attempts
Dynamic ads, live data, animations, and personalization can produce different results. Pause or dismiss changing elements where possible, then capture once the desired state is stable.

The saved image is not where expected
Use Edge’s save action again and read the destination shown by your operating system. Microsoft does not specify one identical save path or filename for every Edge and platform combination.
Practical reliability and privacy notes
- Capture after the page has loaded the exact content you intend to show.
- Check the top, middle, and bottom of a long result for clipped sections or overlays.
- Keep the original URL and date with the image when it may be used as evidence.
- Review credentials, email addresses, order numbers, and other personal data before sharing.
- For automated jobs, use a service’s verdict and billing indicators to distinguish a clean capture from a failed load.
