To convert a web page to JPEG, first capture the page as an image, then export the resulting PNG as JPEG. In Firefox, open the page, choose Take Screenshot, select Save full page or Save visible, download the PNG, and convert that PNG through an image editor or converter. Renaming .png to .jpg does not change the image data.
Choose the capture type before you start: a visible screenshot contains only the current browser window, a full-page capture creates one tall image, and an element or region capture isolates part of the page.
Choose the right kind of JPEG
- Visible area: captures what is currently inside the browser viewport.
- Full page: captures content below the fold in one tall image, including content that requires scrolling.
- Selected region: captures a rectangle you draw.
- Element: captures a specific page component such as a chart, article, or product card.
A full-page JPEG is useful for sharing a design or archiving a short page, but very long pages can produce unwieldy files. For text-heavy material that must remain readable and printable, a paginated document may be a better result than one enormous image.
Convert a web page to JPEG in Firefox
1. Open the page
Open the target URL in Firefox and wait until the content you need has loaded. Scroll through the page once if images or other sections appear only after scrolling.

2. Open the screenshot tool
Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot. You can also use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS. Mozilla documents this workflow in its Firefox screenshot instructions.
3. Select the capture scope
- Choose Save full page for the entire webpage.
- Choose Save visible for the current viewport.
- Drag a custom rectangle or select an automatically highlighted page part when you need a region or element.
Firefox can also copy the capture to the clipboard instead of downloading it.
4. Download the PNG
Firefox’s built-in download is a PNG image. Save it with a descriptive name such as pricing-page.png. Keep this original file until you have checked the JPEG.
5. Export the PNG as JPEG
Open the PNG in an image editor or converter that supports JPEG/JPG export. Use its Export, Save as, or equivalent command, select JPEG or JPG, choose a quality setting if offered, and save to a new filename such as pricing-page.jpg. Open the saved file and verify that it is recognized as JPEG.

JPEG uses lossy compression. It is convenient for smaller photographs and web uploads, but sharp text, diagrams, and repeated edits can show compression artifacts. Retain the PNG when you may need lossless editing or a crisp archival copy.
Use Firefox Developer Tools for more control
Developer Tools add capture controls for timing, scale, filenames, and specific elements. Firefox’s developer documentation describes a screenshot toolbar button, an Inspector option for capturing an element, and the Web Console :screenshot helper. The helper documents options including --fullpage, a delay, device-pixel ratio, a filename, a selector, and clipboard output; its documented filename uses a .png extension. Capture a selected element
- Open Developer Tools with F12 or the browser menu.
- In Inspector, select the element you want.
- Use the screenshot control for the selected node, or run the documented
:screenshotcommand with a selector. - Save the resulting PNG, then export it as JPEG using the same conversion step above.
Capture after a delay or at full-page length
Use the helper’s delay option when animations, lazy content, or a delayed banner must settle. Use --fullpage when you need the entire document rather than the viewport. Because the helper still produces PNG output, JPEG conversion remains a separate step.
Chrome extension route: verify JPG support first
The GoFullPage Chrome Web Store listing describes a full-page capture extension. Its changelog says version 3.7, dated 2018-03-20, added downloads as PNG or JPG through an options page. The listing also records updates through 2026-09-24, but a historical changelog entry is not a guarantee that the current interface exposes the same setting.
- Install GoFullPage from its Chrome Web Store listing if it suits your browser and policy requirements.
- Open the page and run the extension’s full-page capture.
- Check its current options for JPG output before relying on it.
- Open the downloaded file and confirm its format and readability.
If the current extension offers only PNG, convert that PNG with an editor instead of changing the filename extension.

When printing is better than a JPEG screenshot
If your real goal is a readable document, use the browser’s print dialog and save or print to a document format. Microsoft Edge documents controls for page selection, margins, scale, and background graphics in its print guidance. Printing can reflow content, omit interactive states, and paginate the result, so it is not identical to a screenshot. Convert a printed page to an image only when a page image is specifically required.

Troubleshooting JPEG conversions
The file still has a PNG signature
You probably renamed the extension instead of exporting. Reopen the original PNG, choose an actual JPEG/JPG export command, and save a new file.
The full-page image is cut off
Use Firefox’s Save full page rather than Save visible. For dynamic pages, allow lazy content to load or use Developer Tools with --fullpage and an appropriate delay.

Wait for the page to finish loading, scroll through lazy sections, disable temporary content blockers if permitted, and recapture. A screenshot records the rendered state; it cannot recover resources that never loaded.
Text looks blurry after conversion
Keep the PNG for sharp text, export at a higher quality if your converter provides that control, and avoid repeatedly opening and resaving the JPEG.

The result is too large to share
Capture only the needed region or element, reduce image dimensions during export, or use a document/PDF workflow for long text. Reducing JPEG quality lowers size but can make small text harder to read.
A page shows a consent dialog, popup, or bot check
Dismiss legitimate dialogs before a manual capture when possible. For automated captures, configure waits and interaction, or use ScreenshotNeo’s cleanup and verdict behavior so failed or blocked pages can be identified without being billed as clean shots.
Checklist before sending the JPEG
- Confirm you captured the intended scope: viewport, full page, region, or element.
- Open the JPEG and inspect the top, bottom, text, images, and any lazy-loaded sections.
- Check that the file type is JPEG, not merely a renamed PNG.
- Compare dimensions and file size with the recipient’s upload limits.
- Keep the original PNG when future editing or maximum text sharpness matters.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I convert a webpage directly to JPG without saving a PNG?
Some extensions and APIs can output JPG directly, but Firefox’s built-in screenshot workflow downloads PNG, so that route requires a separate JPEG export.
Should I use full-page capture or print to PDF?
Use full-page capture when you need the rendered page as one image. Use printing when pagination, margins, and document readability matter more than pixel-for-pixel appearance.
Does changing .png to .jpg convert the image?
No. It changes only the filename. Use an image editor, converter, or a capture service that encodes JPEG output.
