Scroll Capture is Samsung Galaxy’s built-in long-screenshot feature. You take a normal screenshot, then extend it downward through scrollable content—such as a long article or webpage—and save everything as one tall image. It is a Galaxy feature name and workflow, so labels and availability can differ by model, carrier and software version.
What Scroll Capture does
A regular screenshot records only the pixels currently visible on your display. Scroll Capture adds successive portions of a scrollable page to that first shot, producing one elongated image instead of a series of separate files. Samsung describes long articles and websites as typical uses.
- Input: a scrollable screen in a Galaxy phone or tablet.
- Process: take a standard screenshot, then use the screenshot toolbar to move farther down the page.
- Output: one image containing the captured section from top to bottom.
The name is not a universal Android term. Samsung’s support documentation uses “Scroll Capture”; another phone, app or computer may use a different name or provide no equivalent control.
How to use Scroll Capture on a Galaxy phone
1. Turn on the screenshot toolbar
- Open Settings.
- Tap Advanced features.
- Open Screenshots and screen recorder.
- Enable the screenshot toolbar.
Samsung’s Saudi Arabia guide, updated April 23, 2026, notes that a device without screen-recording options may show a Screen capture menu instead. Exact labels can vary, so search Settings for “screenshot” if the path does not match your phone.

2. Capture the first screen
- Open the webpage, article or other scrollable view.
- Press the Power/Side button and Volume Down button together.
- Release them promptly. A screenshot thumbnail and toolbar should appear.
Do not hold the buttons for several seconds; on some models that can open the power menu or change the result.
3. Extend the screenshot
- Tap the Scroll Capture icon in the toolbar. It is commonly shown as a down arrow or a rectangle with arrows.
- Review the added section. Tap the icon again to continue farther down.
- For a very long page, press and hold the icon to keep extending the capture while the page advances.
- Tap outside the toolbar when you have reached the required endpoint. The completed image is saved to Gallery.
The control is available only when Galaxy detects a scrollable view. If the toolbar contains no Scroll Capture button, the current screen may not support it, the toolbar may be disabled, or the app may block screenshots.
Where the image goes and how it behaves
The finished capture is an image in your Gallery, normally alongside ordinary screenshots. You can crop it, annotate it, share it or move it to another app just like other images. A long capture is useful when the reader needs the sequence in one file—for example, an article, a set of instructions or a receipt that continues below the first screen.

Page length is not perfectly predictable
Scroll Capture does not promise a fixed number of pixels or a complete copy of every page. Samsung says the amount added can vary with the content. Embedded players, large images and other unusual page elements can change how far the screen advances between captures. Stop and inspect the result rather than assuming that the final section was included.

Samsung’s UK guidance says the saved capture is scaled down. Text that looks sharp while you are viewing the page can therefore appear smaller in the final image, especially on a very long page. If exact text size matters, save several shorter screenshots or keep the original page link with the image.
Protected screens can refuse to capture
Some apps and screens disable screenshots for privacy or security. Banking views, protected video and certain enterprise screens may show a blank result, an error or no toolbar control. This is an app or system restriction, not a Scroll Capture setting that can be reliably overridden.

If Scroll Capture is missing
- No toolbar after the screenshot: return to Settings → Advanced features → Screenshots and screen recorder (or the device’s Screen capture menu) and enable the toolbar.
- Toolbar appears but no down-arrow control: confirm that the page actually scrolls. A static image, a dialog or a screen whose content fits entirely may not qualify.
- The page scrolls, but the icon stops early: embedded media, large images or the app’s own scrolling container may limit how the capture advances. Capture the content in shorter sections.
- A warning or blank image appears: the app may prohibit screenshots. Try the app’s own export or share function instead of attempting to bypass the restriction.
- The result is cut off: reopen the page, wait for images and text to finish loading, then repeat the capture more slowly. Review each extension before ending the toolbar session.
- The setting names differ: Samsung states that availability varies by phone or tablet model, carrier and software. Install available system updates and check the model-specific support instructions.
Getting a cleaner, more reliable capture
Let dynamic content finish loading
Wait until the page’s images, expandable sections and ads have settled before taking the first screenshot. If content loads while you are extending the capture, the page can shift and the joined sections may not align as expected.
Use the page’s own scroll area
Some apps contain a scrollable panel inside a fixed screen. Place your finger or pointer over that panel and verify that it moves before starting. Scroll Capture follows the detected scrollable content; it may not combine several independent panels into one logical document.

Check the bottom edge before saving
At each extension, look for repeated lines, missing paragraphs or a jump caused by a large image. If the transition looks wrong, undo by discarding the attempt and capture shorter segments rather than sharing an incomplete image.

Protect information before sharing
A long screenshot can include account numbers, addresses, notification text or content far below what you intended to show. Open the image in Gallery, crop it and use the editing tools to cover sensitive details before sending it. Do not assume that a page’s privacy controls are preserved in a screenshot.

Use Scroll Capture when you need a visual record of what appears on a Galaxy screen and the source is scrollable. It preserves the page’s on-screen appearance, including layout and visible images, but it is still a raster image and may be scaled.
If you need selectable text, a searchable archive or a document that prints across pages, the website or app’s own export command may be a better fit. Samsung’s documented material does not establish one universal alternative workflow for every other phone or desktop platform, so do not assume that the Galaxy labels or button combination apply elsewhere.

- Enable the screenshot toolbar in Settings.
- Press Power/Side + Volume Down once.
- Tap Scroll Capture and inspect each added section.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Scroll Capture make a PDF?
Samsung’s documented Galaxy workflow saves the result as one image. It does not describe a PDF export in that workflow.
Can I capture an entire app with one tap?
Only if the app presents scrollable content that the Galaxy screenshot toolbar can detect. Fixed screens and protected views may not expose the control.
Why is my long screenshot smaller than the screen preview?
Samsung’s UK guidance says the saved capture is scaled down, so a very long image can contain the same content at reduced display size.
