TikTok’s US Terms of Service prohibit using automated systems or software to scrape, crawl, export, or otherwise extract platform data. A headless browser is still automated software, so changing the browser library, hiding automation, or adding proxies does not create an exception.
If your goal is legitimate creator outreach, use an email address the creator voluntarily publishes or supplies, or an authorized TikTok contact workflow. TikTok’s documented user-information APIs require approved scopes and user authorization, and their listed fields do not include an arbitrary user’s email address.
What TikTok’s US terms prohibit
TikTok’s US Terms of Service, identified as last updated July 15, 2026, state in the prohibited-conduct section that users may not “scrape, crawl, export or otherwise extract any data or content in any form, for any purpose, from the Platform using any automated system or software, including automated ‘bots,’ except as approved in writing by TikTok USDS Joint Venture.”
The rule is about automated extraction, not about a particular programming language. Playwright, Puppeteer, Selenium, a remote Chromium service, or a custom headless browser all fall within the ordinary meaning of automated software. Running the browser in headed mode, slowing requests, imitating a human, or routing traffic through rotating proxies would not supply the required written approval.

Why a headless browser does not make email collection acceptable
Automation remains automation
A browser that renders JavaScript is still an automated system when software directs navigation, discovers profiles, reads page content, and saves results. The fact that a page is publicly viewable does not automatically grant permission to copy it in bulk or to build a contact database.
Email addresses are personal information
TikTok’s US Privacy Policy describes email and contact information as account information that may be provided or synced in particular contexts. That description explains TikTok’s processing; it is not a license for third parties to extract the information. TikTok’s Developer Terms also restrict unauthorized or unlawful collection of personal data and automated collection of user information for unauthorized purposes.
Technical evasion is not authorization
Selectors, CAPTCHA-solving, account workarounds, proxy rotation, fingerprint changes, and rate-limit evasion would be operational instructions for bypassing platform controls. They do not change the contractual or privacy analysis, so this article does not provide them.
What the official TikTok APIs provide
User Info API v2
TikTok’s documented v2 user-information endpoint is designed for an authorized integration. You need developer access, the relevant product and scope approvals, and authorization from the TikTok user. The endpoint exposes selected profile and engagement fields listed in the current documentation, such as a user identifier, display name, avatar, profile URL, follower and following counts, likes, and video count where the approved scope makes those fields available.
The documented field list does not include a general email field. The authorization model therefore cannot be used as a public email lookup service for arbitrary creators.
Scopes and consent
Scopes are permissions, not a guarantee that every account attribute is available. A user must authorize the scopes your approved product uses, and TikTok can require review before an application receives access. You should request only the data your feature needs, explain the purpose to the user, protect returned data, and honor deletion and other applicable privacy obligations.
Research API
TikTok’s Research API user-information documentation likewise enumerates profile and engagement fields without an email field. Research access should not be represented as a directory of creator contact addresses or as permission to harvest personal data for outreach.

Legitimate ways to contact a TikTok creator
Use an address the creator publishes
If a creator voluntarily places a business email on a profile, link page, personal website, press page, or another channel, use that address only in the context and for the purpose the creator indicates. Record where you found it, avoid bulk harvesting, and honor an opt-out.
Ask the creator to provide contact details
For a partnership, request an email through TikTok’s permitted messaging or another authorized channel. The creator can choose whether to provide an address and which address to use.
Use an authorized creator or business workflow
Where TikTok offers a creator, advertising, or business contact workflow for your region and use case, follow that program’s terms. Do not assume that an API token, a research account, or a user ID grants permission to export contact information.
Keep outreach records proportionate
- Document the source and purpose of each contact address.
- Store only what your outreach requires and restrict internal access.
- Honor deletion requests and do-not-contact instructions.
- Do not sell, append, or enrich a creator list with unrelated personal data without a lawful, disclosed basis.

A screenshot is different from extracting email addresses. For audits, design review, or documenting what a public page displayed at a particular time, use a screenshot tool and avoid treating the image as permission to collect or redistribute personal data.

“The email is visible, so can I copy it automatically?”
Visibility is not the same as permission for automated extraction. Ask the creator, use a stated business-contact channel, or obtain written approval from TikTok for an automation that falls within its terms.

An identifier or username does not bypass the API’s approval and authorization requirements. The documented user-info fields still do not provide an arbitrary email address.
“What if the creator authorized my app?”
Authorization permits the approved scopes and documented fields only. It does not expand the endpoint into an email directory. Explain your data use, request the minimum scopes, and follow TikTok’s developer and privacy requirements.
“My screenshot request returns a challenge or blank page.”
