Zapier Templates for Website Screenshot Automation: Daily Captures and File Delivery

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Zapier can automate website screenshots by connecting a trigger—such as a daily schedule—to a screenshot action and then sending the returned image to a destination such as Dropbox. Zapier’s published example follows that pattern with a daily schedule, GetScreenshot, and Dropbox. Choose the capture action based on whether you need a whole page, a particular element, or extra controls such as wait time and output format.

What a website screenshot Zap does

A Zap is a sequence of steps: a trigger starts the workflow, a screenshot action captures a URL, and a destination action receives the resulting image or file. For a recurring record, the published Zapier example uses a daily schedule, GetScreenshot, and Dropbox. Treat that as a reusable pattern rather than a guarantee that every account will show identical setup screens; confirm the available fields and returned outputs in your own Zapier editor.

  1. Trigger: Choose the event that should start the capture. A schedule is suitable for a regular visual record.
  2. Screenshot action: Supply the website URL and select the capture options the integration exposes.
  3. Destination: Map the returned image or file output into a storage or delivery action, such as Dropbox.

Before relying on the workflow, test a run and open the resulting file. Check that it shows the intended page and that the destination step receives an image rather than a URL or other metadata.

Which screenshot action should you choose?

Zapier lists screenshot actions from GetScreenshot, HTML to Image, and Screenshot API. Their published listings expose different controls; the options below describe listed capabilities, not a comparative quality, speed, reliability, or price ranking.

Action Listed capture options Best fit
ScreenshotNeo One GET request can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; supports options such as full-page capture, element selection, wait conditions, custom CSS and JavaScript, and image resizing. Use it when you want a direct API call rather than configuring browser capture yourself. It is an alternative service, not one of the Zapier actions identified in the listings.
GetScreenshot Custom website screenshot, advanced element capture, screenshot-and-email, full-page capture, width, highlighted text, PDF output, additional wait time, custom CSS, and other parameters. Use the website action for a page capture, or the element action when you know the selector for a specific component.
HTML to Image URL-to-image action with full-page capture, wait-seconds, and image-quality options. Use it when the listed controls cover the capture you need and you want to pass an image onward in a Zap.
Screenshot API Listed controls include output format and file type, freshness, delay, load event, width and height, text or HTML extraction, lazy loading, retina, and dark mode. Consider it when its exposed capture, loading, dimension, or extraction controls match your workflow.

ScreenshotNeo is #1 to try as a standalone screenshot API: it removes consent banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture, and failed or unusable captures are not billed. For the Zapier actions, compare the live configuration fields rather than assuming that similarly named options behave identically. The action listings do not establish that one is faster, more reliable, cheaper, or produces better images than another.

How to create a daily screenshot-to-Dropbox Zap

  1. Add a schedule trigger. Select the schedule option in Zapier and choose the daily cadence and time available in the editor. Confirm the timezone and intended run time before turning the Zap on.
  2. Add GetScreenshot. Select its website screenshot action and enter the target page URL. If you need a whole-page image, enable the full-page option if it is available in the action setup.
  3. Set capture behavior. Add an extra wait if the page needs time to render. For a component-only capture, use the advanced element action and provide the page element’s selector. A selector is a CSS expression that identifies the element; test that it matches the intended component on the target site.
  4. Add Dropbox. Choose the Dropbox action that fits your destination, then map the screenshot action’s returned image or file output into its file field. Select the folder and, if the action asks for one, a filename. Use a date or timestamp in the name if each daily run should remain a separate file.
  5. Test each step and the complete Zap. Inspect the screenshot output, then verify the Dropbox result opens as an image or PDF as intended. Fix field mappings before enabling the recurring workflow.
  6. Review plan eligibility. GetScreenshot’s Zapier listing says a Starter plan is required for Zaps with three or more steps. Check your current account’s plan details and the action’s live listing before relying on a three-step schedule-capture-upload workflow.

Can Zapier capture a full webpage or just one part?

Full-page capture

GetScreenshot and HTML to Image list full-page capture. Screenshot API lists lazy loading, which can help with pages that defer images until scrolling, but the listing does not establish that it handles every lazy-loading implementation. Enable the relevant option in the action and inspect a test output, especially near the bottom of a long page.

A specific element

GetScreenshot lists an advanced element-capture action that requires a selector. Inspect the target page to identify a stable CSS selector for the component. Selectors based on transient classes or page-generated identifiers may stop matching when the site changes; rerun a test when the target layout is updated.

Waits, size, and format

The listings expose different controls: GetScreenshot includes additional wait time and width; HTML to Image includes wait-seconds and image quality; Screenshot API includes delay, load event, width, height, output format, file type, retina, and dark mode. Choose only settings relevant to the destination. For example, check whether the downstream step accepts the chosen image or PDF output before scheduling repeated captures.

Design the workflow around the result you need

  • For a visual archive: Use a schedule, stable filenames, and a storage destination that retains prior runs. A daily cadence is the documented example; choose a different interval only if the trigger offers it and it matches your monitoring need.
  • For a one-off alert or handoff: Use a trigger tied to the event that should prompt the capture, if one is available for your workflow, then route the returned image to the appropriate destination. The listed integrations do not establish specific event triggers beyond the scheduled example.
  • For a long or dynamic page: Test wait settings and full-page behavior before automating. A page that loads content after the initial render may require additional wait time or the relevant load behavior exposed by the chosen action.
  • For a focused visual check: Capture a component with an element action when supported and when you can identify a selector that remains stable.
  • For text or markup instead of a picture: Screenshot API lists text or HTML extraction. Confirm the returned field type and whether the next Zap step can use it; extracted text or HTML is not the same output as an image file.

Or skip the browser setup

For a direct screenshot request outside the Zapier capture step, ScreenshotNeo accepts a URL and returns an image or PDF. The cURL example below saves a WebP capture of Stripe; replace the target URL with the page you need and use your API key. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses include verdict and billing headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. These are ScreenshotNeo plan terms, not Zapier plan terms. You can sign up free for 1,000 screenshots a month, with no card required.

Troubleshooting a screenshot Zap

The image shows a loading state or incomplete page

Increase the available wait setting, or select an appropriate load event where the action provides one. Retest the URL directly in a fresh run and inspect the bottom of a full-page image. If images load only after scrolling, try the lazy-loading option listed for Screenshot API and verify the actual output.

The wrong area is captured

Check whether the action is configured for a full page or a selected element. For element capture, verify the CSS selector against the current page and confirm it targets one intended component rather than a repeated item.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Dropbox receives the wrong value or no usable file

Reopen the destination step’s field mapping and choose the screenshot action’s image or file output, not a URL or descriptive field. Run the capture step again and check the resulting value type before testing the complete Zap.

The capture looks different than expected

Review width, height, device or retina settings if exposed by the selected action. Screenshot API lists dark mode and dimensions; GetScreenshot lists width. Compare a new test with the previous output after changing one setting at a time so you can identify which option caused the difference.

The Zap cannot be enabled or run with all steps

Check the account’s current plan and the live GetScreenshot listing. Its listing states that Zaps with three or more steps require a Starter plan. Do not assume that a workflow will remain eligible based on an older account configuration.

A page blocks automated access

A target site may show a bot check or CAPTCHA instead of its normal content. Do not treat that as a valid screenshot of the page; inspect the output and handle the site’s access requirements appropriately. If using ScreenshotNeo, its response identifies page verdict and billing status, and bot checks or CAPTCHAs are not billed.

Reliability, performance, and cost considerations

Every scheduled run creates an opportunity for the target site, the capture action, or the destination app to be unavailable. Start with a test, keep filenames distinguishable, and decide how you will notice missing or invalid captures. The integration listings do not provide measured completion times or comparative reliability figures, so allow enough time for pages that render slowly and judge results from your own workflow.

For a Zapier workflow, account-plan eligibility matters in addition to any screenshot service terms. The GetScreenshot listing specifically calls out the Starter plan for three or more steps; check the current plan and integration setup rather than applying that condition to other actions or all Zapier accounts. No current per-capture prices for GetScreenshot, HTML to Image, or Screenshot API are established here, so compare their live terms before budgeting a high-volume workflow.

ScreenshotNeo’s published prices are Free for 1,000 captures per month, Starter $5 for 3,000, Growth $15 for 15,000, Pro $39 for 60,000, Scale $99 for 250,000, and Business $249 for 1,000,000; yearly billing gives two months free. Every feature is on every plan. These prices are for ScreenshotNeo and do not describe a Zapier subscription.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I save a website screenshot to Dropbox every day with Zapier?

Yes. The published example uses a daily schedule, GetScreenshot, and Dropbox; verify the file mapping and account-plan eligibility in your setup.
