You can automate customer review graphics by connecting a permitted review source to a consent and moderation check, rendering approved reviews into a fixed branded template, and publishing the resulting images to your chosen channels. The key is to automate the repeatable design work—not to skip permission checks or publish customer-uploaded media without review.
Build the workflow around permission, not just design
A useful system has five stages: retrieve review data your account is allowed to process; confirm the relevant publication rights and consent; moderate attached media; render approved content into a consistent image; and deliver the image to a scheduler, CMS, email builder, or review widget. Keep the source review and the generated image associated through a stable review ID.
- Collect: retrieve only fields and media your integration is permitted to use.
- Check: verify that the text and any image or video may be published in the intended context.
- Moderate: hold media-bearing submissions for a human decision when the source requires it or when your policy calls for it.
- Render: use a fixed template and preserve the review’s meaning and source attribution.
- Publish and monitor: send approved output to its destination and track updates, removals, consent changes, and integration changes.
These are separate controls. An API returning review text does not itself grant permission to reuse it in a promotional image, and a successful image export does not mean the content is ready to publish.
Choose and connect a review source
Google reviews
Google review records can include the review text, star rating, reviewer information, and creation or update timestamps. Use the fields available through the Google reviews resource to build the graphic and keep track of which review version it represents. Do not assume that permission to read data through an API also grants permission to store, aggregate, or reuse it without limits: Google Business Profile API policy imposes consent and content-use requirements.

In particular, the policy says, “you must not automate or trigger review replies, Q&As, listing creations, listing edits, or other actions without the user’s prior specific and express consent.” Treat automated actions as opt-in, and check the policy’s restrictions on storage and attribution before designing a recurring export or cache. Google Merchant Center guidance also says not to publish photos from private locations without the owner’s consent.
Shopify storefronts
For a Shopify storefront, separate review publishing permission from general storefront privacy choices. Shopify’s Customer Privacy API provides permission checks for analytics, marketing, preferences, and sale of data, as well as a visitorConsentCollected event for storefront processing. Those signals help your storefront respect privacy choices; they are not, by themselves, proof that a reviewer granted rights to republish a quote or photo. Keep an explicit record of review-publication consent as well.
Yotpo and other review platforms
Yotpo supports photo and video collection through review requests, widgets, and review APIs. Its documentation says, “Reviews with attached files can’t be auto-published.” Route those submissions to moderation instead of treating a successful API response as approval. The documentation lists a default limit of up to 3 photos per review and a maximum photo size of 10 MB; its API reference describes image uploads using an image-upload token obtained during review creation and permits up to 4 image URLs per request. Check the current documentation for the account and endpoint you use before relying on these limits.
For any provider, confirm source coverage, API or export access, moderation controls, consent logging, attribution requirements, image limits, and where approved graphics can be sent. Avoid building a workflow around an endpoint or field that your account does not expose.
Record consent and keep an audit trail
Before rendering a review for public or promotional use, retain evidence that the customer agreed to the intended use of the review text and any accompanying image. The record should be tied to the review ID and should make the permitted use clear. A consent to submit a review is not necessarily a consent to feature it in an advertisement, social post, or email.

At minimum, keep a record of:
- The stable review ID and the source platform.
- The review text and rating version used, plus the source’s creation or update timestamp where available.
- The publication permission or consent record and its scope.
- The moderation decision for attached media.
- The generated asset location, template version, and publication destination.
- Any later withdrawal, correction, or removal request and the action taken.
Design the workflow so that a missing, unclear, or withdrawn permission record stops publication. Do not rely on an image file alone as evidence that its contents were approved.
Moderate photos and video before they enter a graphic
Uploaded media deserves a separate review path. Yotpo’s stated restriction on auto-publishing reviews with attached files means a media-bearing submission must not flow straight from collection into a public graphic through that route. Hold it for moderation, then render only after the required approval is recorded. This is especially important where the image could reveal a person, a private location, personal information, or material the customer did not intend to license for reuse.
Keep text-only reviews and media reviews distinguishable in your queue. A reviewer may approve a quote while declining use of their photo; your data model and moderation interface should be able to represent those decisions independently. If permission or policy status changes after publication, use the review ID to locate and remove or regenerate associated assets.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteMake a readable, faithful template
A dependable template avoids redesigning each card by hand while leaving the customer’s words recognizable. Include the brand treatment, star rating, a concise quote, reviewer name or an anonymous label, source attribution, and a text alternative for accessible placements. Use a consistent layout with enough room for the longest expected name and excerpt.
- Quote faithfully: do not rewrite a review to make it more favorable. If the card cannot fit the whole text, truncate with an ellipsis and link to the full review where permitted.
- Identify the source: preserve attribution required by the platform and make the review’s origin clear to viewers.
- Use a stable layout: constrain text length and handle long words, missing reviewer names, and different star ratings without clipping.
- Provide accessible text: include a text alternative that conveys the review, rating, and source rather than relying on the image alone.
- Track versions: save the review ID and template version with each output so a correction can be traced to the right graphic.
Do not imply that an excerpt is the full review. When you shorten a quote, preserve the original wording and use an ellipsis to show that it has been abbreviated.

Create image-ready review pages with a small Node.js example
The example below turns an approved JSON record into a self-contained HTML card. It is a template-rendering step, not a review-platform connector: supply records only after your integration has checked publication consent and moderation. The script refuses records that lack both an explicit publication-consent flag and an approval status. It does not validate the underlying legal rights or contact a review API.
Save as render-reviews.js, then run node render-reviews.js. It uses only Node.js built-in modules and writes one HTML file per approved record in an out directory.
const fs = require('node:fs');
const path = require('node:path');
const reviews = [

fs.writeFileSync(path.join(outputDir, `${id}.html`), html, 'utf8');
written++;
}
console.log(`Wrote ${written} review card(s) to ${outputDir}`);
For a production pipeline, replace the in-file sample with a controlled input from your permitted source, store consent and moderation state alongside each record, and send only approved records to the renderer. Add a channel-specific excerpt limit and a review step for text overflow before making cards public. The output is HTML, so it can be previewed in a browser or hosted on a staging page before image capture.
Publish images without losing freshness or traceability
A saved graphic is a snapshot: if the underlying review changes, the image does not update by itself. ReviewPanel distinguishes static snapshot widgets from connected widgets that can refresh after synced data changes; it also documents a showcase carousel based on consent. This is a useful distinction when choosing between exporting image files and embedding a review display that refreshes from synchronized data. In either case, make sure the content and consent state are rechecked as part of synchronization.
For exported assets, use a stable review ID in the filename or metadata and keep the source record that generated it. Send images to a social scheduler, CMS, email builder, or review widget only after the destination is configured to preserve the attribution and context you need. Avoid storing or aggregating Google API content beyond the limits in Google’s policy. Recheck rate limits, attribution rules, permissions, and widget refresh behavior when a provider changes its API or terms.

ScreenshotNeo is a capture step, not a review-source integration or consent checker: your page and workflow still need to enforce approval. It removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed; an MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots; and 1,000 screenshots per month are free without a card, with paid plans starting at $5 for 3,000. Troubleshoot common failures
A review is not appearing in the output
Check the source query and permissions first, then confirm the record has a stable ID, non-empty text, a valid rating, an explicit publication-consent record, and the required moderation status. The sample renderer intentionally skips records that fail its checks; a skip is safer than silently publishing incomplete input.
A photo review is held back
That is expected for Yotpo reviews with attached files under its documented auto-publishing restriction. Send the item to moderation and record an approval decision before generating a public card.
The graphic clips a quote or reviewer name
Set a maximum excerpt length that fits the design, test long names and unbroken strings, and use an ellipsis when shortening a quote. Keep the full review available through a permitted link rather than shrinking type until the card is unreadable.
A published card no longer matches its source
Compare the asset’s review ID and stored source timestamp with the latest permitted record. Regenerate or remove the image when the source changes, a correction is made, or publication permission is withdrawn. A static image or snapshot widget will not update just because the source review changed.

A screenshot shows a blank or incomplete page
Confirm that the hosted review-card URL is reachable to the capture request, that the page has finished rendering, and that it does not require an unavailable login or session. If the target page has access controls, configure an approved access method rather than making customer data public simply to capture it.
Decide between image files and a live widget
Use exported images when a destination needs a fixed graphic and you can maintain an update-and-removal process. A connected widget is a better fit when refresh after synchronization matters more than owning a static file; a static widget remains a snapshot. Neither delivery method removes the need to preserve consent, attribution, and moderation decisions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should the graphic include the reviewer’s full name?
Not necessarily. Use a name or anonymous label that matches the permission granted and the source platform’s applicable requirements; do not expose additional identity information merely because it is available in a record.
What image dimensions should I use?
There is no universal dimension that fits every social, email, or website placement. Set dimensions to the destination’s current publishing requirements and preview the template at that size before automating export.
