The Motorola Moto G Power (2022) is worth considering in 2026 only as a very cheap, basic-use phone. Its 5,000mAh battery, 90Hz screen, headphone jack and microSD slot are useful, but a slow processor, no 5G, no NFC on the US model and aging software make it a poor choice at anything near the price of a newer phone. For a clean, unlocked unit with a healthy battery, aim to pay less than $75; above about $100, look elsewhere.
What is the Moto G Power (2022)?
The official name is moto g power (2022). It is a standalone US budget phone from the 2022 model year—not the Moto G Power (2021), a later Moto G Power 5G, or a Moto G Play or Moto G Stylus. “Power” points to battery capacity and endurance, not high processing speed.
Motorola’s US launch pricing was about $199.99 for 64GB and $249.99 for 128GB. Those launch prices are historical context, not a reason to pay a premium now: in 2026, condition, remaining battery life, carrier compatibility and current alternatives matter more. See Motorola’s launch announcement and official specifications.

Specs can vary by region, model and carrier. Motorola lists US model identifiers including PASE0005US and PASE0012US; check the exact version rather than assuming that an international or carrier-branded unit matches the US configuration. Motorola’s carrier compatibility page covers model-specific information.

How well does it handle everyday use?
The Helio G37 and 4GB of RAM are adequate for calls, messages, light browsing and streaming, but they are weak by current standards. Reviewers at Android Authority, Tom’s Guide and Android Central all flagged performance as a major drawback; some coverage described it as a step backward from earlier Moto G Power models.
Expect slower app launches, occasional delays in camera processing, and more apps reloading when you switch between them. The 90Hz display can make scrolling look smoother when the phone can keep up, but it cannot overcome a processor that struggles with a workload. Demanding 3D games and performance-critical work are poor fits. Low remaining storage can also make an already modest device feel more constrained.
Battery life is a strength, but age changes the equation
The 5,000mAh battery was the phone’s central selling point. Motorola’s “three-day battery” language is an approximate claim, not a guarantee: runtime depends on network conditions, settings, temperature and how the phone is used. A light user may still value the long intervals between charges; heavy use will shorten them. Motorola describes the qualification in its launch announcement.
For a phone originally sold in 2022, battery condition is a separate question from the original capacity. Ask whether the battery was replaced, and watch for swelling, a lifting screen or back cover, unusual heat, rapid percentage drops or unexpected shutdowns. Stop using a visibly swollen battery. Test charging with a known-good cable and charger: 10W wired charging is slow even when the battery is healthy, and a replacement repair may cost too much relative to the phone’s resale value.

Display, cameras and physical features
Display
The 6.5-inch LCD is large, and 90Hz can improve the feel of scrolling when the system sustains it. The trade-off is 1600 × 720 resolution: text and fine detail are less sharp than on a Full HD+ screen. LCD also has weaker contrast and black levels than OLED. Treat 90Hz as a useful refresh-rate feature, not evidence of premium picture quality. Digital Trends and Android Authority discuss the display and its compromises.

Cameras
The 50MP main camera can take serviceable daylight pictures, but the number of megapixels does not guarantee strong image quality. Low-light results, video and processing are limited compared with better budget phones. The 2MP macro camera and 2MP depth sensor add less practical value than a stronger main camera would; the front camera is 8MP. Camera launches and gallery loading may also feel slow because of the processor. Reviews from Tom’s Guide and Digital Trends cover the camera trade-offs.
Useful extras and durability
A headphone jack and microSD expansion remain practical advantages. Motorola describes the construction as water-repellent; that does not make the phone waterproof, so do not use it for swimming, submersion or wet-environment work. Before buying used, inspect the screen, camera glass, USB port, buttons, speaker, microphone and fingerprint reader.
Android version and update outlook
The US model launched with Android 11, and Motorola provides Android 12 documentation for it. In 2026, do not treat the phone as having current software support: assume official support is limited or ended unless Motorola’s current page confirms a newer update for the exact variant. The available evidence does not establish one universal final security-patch date for every carrier and region.

To check for an update on the phone, open Settings → System → Advanced → System updates, where available. Rollouts can depend on country, carrier, exact model and installed build; modified or rooted software can add complications. Motorola’s support hub has manuals and troubleshooting resources. Do not assume future Android upgrades beyond what Motorola confirms for the specific device.
4G, NFC and carrier compatibility
Network and payments
The US Moto G Power (2022) is a 4G LTE phone, not a 5G phone. It may still work on 4G, depending on the specific model and carrier requirements, but it cannot use 5G. The US model also lacks NFC, so it cannot use standard NFC tap-to-pay through Google Wallet, NFC tags, or NFC-based transit and pairing features. Regional variants may differ; verify the exact model before purchase. See Motorola’s compatibility information and coverage of NFC in Android Central’s review.

Check a used phone before paying
- Ask the seller for a photo of Settings → About phone, showing the model number and storage capacity. Ask for an IMEI-status check with sensitive digits obscured, plus the original label or packaging if available.
- Confirm that the phone is unlocked, not financed or blacklisted, and that the exact model works with your carrier. Check Motorola’s compatibility page and the carrier’s current bring-your-own-device checker; unlocked does not mean compatible with every network.
- Insert the SIM if possible, activate service and make a call to verify calling and VoLTE requirements before completing the purchase.
- Open the camera, switch modes, launch Chrome and other everyday apps, test keyboard response, play a 1080p video, and switch between apps to check for reloads.
- Test navigation and Bluetooth together, and watch for abnormal heat during ordinary tasks. Inspect the battery and charging behavior before relying on it as a travel or work phone.
Storage: choose the right variant
In 2026, 64GB can feel cramped after the operating system, updates, apps, messages and cached media take their share. Prefer the 128GB version if the price difference is small. A microSD card can hold photos, videos, music and downloaded media, but not every app can be moved fully to it, and external storage does nothing to improve processor speed.
What should you pay in 2026?
These are practical ceilings for a used US unit, not a guarantee of current market pricing. Condition, battery health, seller warranty and local availability change the value.
| Price | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Under $75 | Potentially worthwhile for calls, texts, streaming, navigation, light browsing or emergency use, if unlocked, compatible and battery-tested. |
| $75–$100 | Consider only a clean unit with a healthy battery and confirmed carrier compatibility. |
| $100–$150 | Usually poor value unless it is unusually clean and backed by a warranty or you have a specific reason to choose this model. |
| Above $150 | Generally avoid; compare newer phones with better performance and more support. |
Price snapshots show why availability must be checked at the time of purchase: a Best Buy listing showed the unlocked 128GB version at $65.99 clearance but unavailable when crawled, while Back Market showed a refurbished listing at $153. Both are dated market signals, not guaranteed offers; stock, condition and seller terms vary. Check the Best Buy listing and Back Market listing for current details.
Should you choose a newer phone instead?
If the Moto G Power (2022) approaches the price of a newer phone, its low launch-era cost is no longer a persuasive advantage. Compare exact generations and current prices rather than relying on the shared “Power” name.
| Option | When it makes more sense | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Used Moto G Power (2022) | Strict budget below about $75; basic use; battery and carrier checks pass. | Exact variant, unlock status, condition, storage and remaining battery life. |
| Motorola moto g power (2026) | You want a new phone and can spend more for newer hardware and software. | Motorola lists Android 16, a 5,200mAh battery, 120Hz display and a $299.99 US MSRP; check the current product page for availability and price. |
| Newer Moto G Power 5G generation | You need 5G, NFC, stronger performance or newer support. | Generation, region, storage, carrier version and current specifications; Motorola’s product page identifies a specific generation. |
| Refurbished Galaxy A-series or Pixel A-series | You value newer support or, for Pixel A-series, camera quality over having this specific Motorola. | Exact model’s update policy, carrier compatibility, battery condition and current price. |
Do not assume any one refurbished alternative is automatically the better deal: compare its current price, condition, network compatibility and support policy. For long-term support, contactless payments or work-critical responsiveness, a newer phone is the safer category of choice.
