GCam 8.8 is available, but there is no single universal “stable” APK. Pixel owners should distinguish Google’s official Pixel Camera from unofficial ports. Most Xiaomi, Samsung, OnePlus, Motorola, Realme and other non-Pixel users need a device-compatible port such as BSG’s MGC_8.8.224_A11_V14a, not Google’s Pixel-only package.
What “GCam 8.8” actually means
“GCam 8.8” identifies a Google Camera code base, not one download. Google’s proprietary app was branded Google Camera at the time and is now Pixel Camera. The archived official build is 8.8.224.529100705.13, released in May 2023 for Android 13 or newer, arm64 Pixel devices. Its APKMirror listing is a bundle containing a base APK and 21 split APKs, not a universal sideload for other Android phones: official Google Camera 8.8 archive.
On non-Pixel phones, GCam usually means an unofficial adaptation. BSG, Shamim, Hasli, BigKaka and MWP publish separate ports with different package names, settings and camera support. “Stable” is the developer’s label for that release line; it does not mean the APK works on every handset.

Use Shamim SGCam when BSG is unsuitable
The stable-version archive lists Shamim’s SGCAM_8.8.224.10_STABLE_V19, dated October 29, 2023. Try it when BSG crashes, detects the wrong lenses or produces poor results on your model: stable GCam version archive.
Other 8.8 ports
- BigKaka:
AGC8.8.224_V12.0, listed December 1, 2025. - MWP:
Gcam_8.8.224_V5.0, listed August 14, 2024, with a Pixel-oriented note. - Hasli LMC 8.8: widely used, but the available archive evidence identifies it as a beta rather than a universal stable choice.

Compatibility checklist
Installing successfully does not prove that every camera feature will work. Check the exact model and regional variant before downloading.
Recommended Free Tools
- Android: Modern ports commonly target Android 11 or newer; older versions may reject them.
- Camera2 API: It must be enabled, but access can differ by lens and vendor implementation.
- Architecture: Current ports generally require 64-bit ARM64.
- Chipset: Snapdragon phones tend to have the broadest compatibility. Some Exynos, Kirin and MediaTek models work with limitations.
- Google dependency: GApps or a compatible replacement such as microG may be required.
- Camera HAL: The manufacturer may hide auxiliary cameras or restrict RAW, stabilization, slow motion or video processing.
- Configuration: A config made for the exact phone and port can be essential.
Check the device-specific entries in the BSG 8.8 configuration archive. A working port may still lack ultrawide, telephoto, front-camera, Night Sight, portrait, HDR, RAW or stable video support.

How to install GCam 8.8
- Download the APK from the developer archive or a reputable mirror.
- Open the downloaded
.apkfrom your browser’s download list or file manager. - If Android blocks it, grant the opening app permission to install unknown apps, then return to the APK.
- Complete installation and launch GCam.
- Grant camera and microphone access; grant location or media access only when the requested feature needs it.
- Test the rear, front, ultrawide, telephoto, Night Sight and video modes before importing a config.
Keep the stock camera installed as a fallback. If a new port will not install over an older one, back up its XML files and settings, try another package variant, or uninstall the conflicting port before installing the new build. Uninstalling removes that app’s data. The installation guide and troubleshooting guide document these flows.
How to load an XML configuration
For many 8.x ports, create /GCam/Configs 8/ at the same internal-storage level as DCIM, Download and Pictures.
- Download an XML intended for your exact phone and installed port.
- Create
/GCam/Configs 8/if it is missing. - Copy the XML into that folder.
- Open GCam and double-tap the area beside the shutter button, or use the build’s config menu.
- Select the XML, load it and restart GCam.
- Test every lens and mode; a config for another package or phone can cause crashes or incorrect colors.
Folder names and loading gestures vary by modder. Android 11 and later may require the port’s file-access permission, and some builds specify a different directory. See the config settings documentation.

Fixes for common problems
“App not installed”
- Confirm the download is a standalone APK, not a split bundle requiring a compatible installer.
- Try the package variant recommended for your phone.
- Back up configs, remove the conflicting GCam package and reinstall.
- Check Android version, ARM64 support and available storage.
- If incompatibility remains, use an older base.
Immediate crash or black screen
Clear app data, remove the imported XML, disable problematic auxiliary lenses and retry the phone-specific package. If the camera HAL is unsupported, test an earlier BSG build or Shamim’s port instead; clearing data is not guaranteed to solve vendor-level incompatibility.
Ultrawide or telephoto is missing
The phone may hide auxiliary camera IDs, the package may be wrong, or the port may not support that HAL. Device pages sometimes specify _ruler, _scan3d or aweme packages for particular Samsung or other models; follow those instructions rather than applying them universally.

Verify the exact /GCam/Configs 8/ path, internal storage location, file-access permission, port match and any nonstandard directory named by the modder.
Photos are worse than the stock camera
Results depend on sensor calibration, noise models, white balance, motion, HDR behavior, the XML and the camera HAL. Compare daylight, indoor, night, moving-subject, portrait and video shots before deciding which app to keep.
Is GCam 8.8 still worth using in 2026?
It is worthwhile when an 8.8 port and phone-specific config are reliable on your handset, or when newer versions fail. It is not automatically the best or newest base: the archive lists BSG 9.6 and 9.7 releases through July 2026. Choose a supported 9.x port when you want newer fixes and your phone has a matching config; choose 8.8 for established compatibility.
Official Pixel Camera versus a GCam port
Google’s current Play listing says Pixel Camera works on Pixel devices running Android 16 or newer: Pixel Camera on Google Play. A non-Pixel user should not treat an archived official 8.8 APK as Google-supported software. Ports are unofficial adaptations with separate signing, package names and update paths.
Safety checklist
- Prefer the developer listing on Celso Azevedo or a reputable APK mirror.
- Record the filename, version, package name and developer before installing.
- Do not permanently disable Android security protections.
- Reject unrelated installers and permissions that the camera feature does not need.
- Keep the stock camera and back up XML files before removing a port.
- APKMirror may provide signature and hash information for a listing, but that indicates file-integrity evidence—not Google support, privacy assurance or functional compatibility. Its BSG listing is available here.
The Bottom Line
For most non-Pixel users, begin with the BSG MGC 8.8.224 A11 V14a variant and XML recommended for the exact phone. Treat 8.8 as an older compatibility option, not a universal or officially supported Android camera.
