Yes—the Moaan InkPalm Mini Plus 2 is a real, released product. It went on sale in China on September 22, 2025. Xiaomi/Moaan announced Chinese pricing, but no official US, UK, EU or other international MSRP was confirmed in the available launch coverage. For readers outside China, the important questions are the device’s China-market software, warranty, app compatibility and final delivered import cost.
China launch date and price
Launch reports place the announcement on September 11, 2025, followed by Chinese retail sales on September 22. Android Authority reported the following pricing for the 6GB RAM/512GB storage configuration:

See the launch reporting from Android Authority and Gadgets 360. A historical conversion sometimes shown as about $196 is only a currency conversion of the Chinese price, not a US retail price. Shipping, taxes, customs, payment fees and importer margins can make an overseas purchase substantially more expensive.
Where it is sold—and what is not confirmed
Chinese availability was reported through JD.com and other mainland Chinese e-commerce channels. A later JD category page still displayed Mini Plus2 listings, including a 5.84-inch, 6GB/512GB model, indicating retail presence in China. That category page is not a verified first-party product-detail page, so it does not establish current stock, seller identity, price or warranty terms: JD results.

Available reporting through August 18, 2026 did not confirm an official international launch or regional distribution channel. A marketplace listing should therefore be treated as an import offer, not proof that Xiaomi officially sells the reader in your country.

Specification details are compiled from Gadgets 360, Europa Press and YugaTech. Reports also mention brightness of up to 32 nits, voice input and a claimed battery life of up to two weeks. Those are listing or manufacturer-style claims, not independent tests; battery life depends on lighting, wireless radios, audio, apps, refresh settings and standby use. Notebookcheck repeats the two-week claim.
What the phone-sized design changes
Good for pocket reading
The 5.84-inch, 140g body is closer to a smartphone than a conventional page-shaped e-reader. That should make one-handed reading, commuting and travel convenient, while the front light supports reading in different ambient conditions.

Less suitable for full pages
A narrow 720-pixel-wide screen provides less usable area for full-page PDFs, textbooks, technical documents and detailed comics. You should expect more zooming or page turns than on a six- or seven-inch reader. Android menus and complex layouts may also feel cramped on E Ink.
Android flexibility, with important limits
Android 14 and the RK3566 platform suggest more flexibility than a tightly controlled Kindle-style system, and the speakers and Bluetooth could support audio applications. Android 14 alone does not guarantee Google Play certification, Google services, English-language completeness, DRM compatibility or normal support for every current app. E Ink refresh behaviour can make fast scrolling, animation and video unpleasant even when an application installs successfully.

Is 512GB useful?
For ordinary EPUB and text books, 512GB is far more capacity than most readers need. It becomes more meaningful for large PDF archives, scanned books, manga, audiobooks, music and other Android-app content. Storage capacity does not determine whether those formats are enjoyable: screen size, contrast, refresh behaviour, navigation and app support matter more. Do not assume the storage is user-expandable unless the seller provides a verified specification.

- Seller and condition: Confirm the seller’s location, reputation and whether the unit is new, refurbished or open-box.
- Exact hardware: Verify the 6GB/512GB configuration, colour and included accessories. Confirm the charger plug and whether a suitable adapter is supplied.
- Language and firmware: Ask whether the interface can be switched fully to your language and whether the firmware has been modified by the seller.
- Apps and DRM: Confirm whether Google Play, your preferred Kindle/Kobo or other reading apps are preinstalled, officially supported, sideloadable or unavailable. Check DRM behaviour with the stores you use.
- Returns and warranty: Read the return window, return-shipping responsibility and warranty jurisdiction. Imported China-market units may not have local service.
- Total landed cost: Add shipping, tax, customs, payment conversion and any importer markup to the CNY price before comparing it with local readers.
- Connectivity expectations: Published specifications describe Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, not cellular data. Do not buy expecting mobile connectivity.
Who should buy it?
- Good fit: readers who prioritise an ultra-portable E Ink device, want Android experimentation, keep large local media libraries or are comfortable importing China-market hardware.
- Poor fit: buyers who need official Western-market support, guaranteed Google Play or DRM compatibility, straightforward returns, a large page-like display or strong local warranty coverage.

Its Chinese launch price was attractive on paper, but the real buying decision is the imported unit’s delivered cost, firmware, app and DRM support, warranty and return path. It is a strong niche option for adventurous importers; it is a risky choice for anyone who expects a fully supported Kindle-like experience outside China.
