Galaxy Z Flip6 vs. Razr 50 Ultra: Which Flip Phone Should You Buy?

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra is the more ambitious flip phone: its larger, more useful cover screen, faster charging, 2x telephoto camera and 165Hz inner display make it the better pick for hardware experience. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 is the safer long-term buy, with a stronger processor, a seven-year software-support promise, dust-resistance testing and Samsung’s broader ecosystem. In the U.S. in 2026, both are older models, and the international Razr 50 Ultra is closely related to the U.S. razr+ (2024), not necessarily identical in bands or warranty.

U.S. buying status in 2026 Samsung’s U.S. product page says it is no longer available U.S. counterpart was marketed as razr+ (2024); Motorola now promotes newer Razr models

Figures and names can vary by market. The Razr 50 Ultra is Motorola’s international name; the U.S. 2024 premium Razr was called razr+ (2024). Do not treat an imported Razr 50 Ultra as the same U.S. retail SKU without checking model number, network bands, eSIM, carrier support and warranty. Samsung’s U.S. availability is shown on its product page; Motorola’s regional names appear on its U.S. Razr family page and international Razr 50 Ultra page.

Design, hinge and crease

The Razr’s teardrop-style hinge leaves the inner-screen crease less visually prominent, a practical advantage when reading or watching video. Samsung’s crease is more noticeable by comparison, though crease appearance is not evidence of hinge lifespan or screen durability. The Flip6 uses Armor Aluminum and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the exterior, part of Samsung’s more conservative construction approach. Samsung’s materials are listed on its Flip6 upgrade page; Motorola describes the Razr design on its U.S. razr+ product page.

Weight, dimensions, finish, storage and included accessories can differ by region or configuration. Case fit is generation-specific, so buy a case made for the exact model. A folding phone’s compact closed shape is a shared benefit; the Razr’s larger external panel makes the folded device more interactive, while Samsung’s smaller screen is less likely to invite long sessions without opening the phone.

#1 Best Overall
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 5G, 256GB + 12GB RAM, Silver Shadow - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • Offers a 6.7″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X folding main display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, giving you fluid visuals for media, gaming, and multitasking while still folding into a compact, stylish form.

The Razr wins the cover-screen experience

The 4-inch outer display gives the Razr more room for apps and interaction. Motorola promotes replying to messages, checking updates and running apps without unfolding. That can reduce the number of times you open the phone for quick tasks. Samsung’s 3.4-inch FlexWindow is useful for widgets, notifications, quick replies, timers, music controls and supported functions, but its smaller area is less comfortable for general app use. See the manufacturers’ descriptions for the Razr 50 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip6.

What to try before buying

  • Reply to a message using the on-screen keyboard; the Razr gives the keyboard more room, though neither cover screen is as comfortable as the unfolded display for extended typing.
  • Open a map and follow a turn. A larger panel is easier to read, but app layout and interaction can still be cramped.
  • Skip a track or choose a podcast episode without unfolding.
  • Frame and review a selfie using the rear cameras and outer-screen preview.
  • Check whether the apps you rely on can run on the cover screen without extra configuration.

Extensive cover-screen use may change battery consumption, but the screen size alone does not establish which phone lasts longer. The Razr reduces unfolding for selected tasks; it does not make every app equally comfortable on the outside.

Display quality: bigger and faster on Motorola

The Razr has the larger inner panel at 6.9 inches and supports refresh rates up to 165Hz, versus the Flip6’s approximately 6.7-inch display at up to 120Hz. The difference is most relevant to smooth scrolling and games that support higher refresh rates. It does not mean every video looks better, nor does a higher refresh rate guarantee longer battery life. The Razr’s external display is also larger, while Samsung’s smaller cover display suits quick glances and selected actions.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6: Unlocked - 256GB - Yellow (Renewed)
  • Offers a 6.7″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X folding main display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, giving you fluid visuals for media, gaming, and multitasking while still folding into a compact, stylish form.
  • On the outside, there’s a 3.4″ Super AMOLED FlexWindow cover screen that allows quick access to widgets, notifications, health tracking, and camera controls without opening the phone.
  • Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 “for Galaxy” processor paired with 12 GB of RAM, delivering fast, efficient performance for 5G connectivity, apps, and AI-driven features.
  • Equipped with a dual rear camera setup (50 MP wide with OIS + 12 MP ultra-wide) and a 10 MP front camera — perfect for high-quality photos, video, and creative FlexCam shots from unique foldable angles.
  • Built tough with IP48 water resistance, an enhanced Armor Aluminum hinge, Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, combining style, durability, and secure access.

Motorola’s international specifications list its 6.9-inch, 165Hz main display and 4-inch external display on the Razr 50 Ultra specification page. The Flip6’s product materials are on Samsung’s upgrade page. Peak brightness and real-world outdoor readability depend on conditions and configuration; the supplied specifications do not establish a universal viewing winner.

Camera choice: ultrawide or 2x telephoto

The main-camera resolutions are similar, but the second rear camera points to a different kind of photography. The Flip6 has a dedicated ultrawide for fitting more into the frame. The Razr 50 Ultra has a 50MP telephoto, generally offering 2x optical zoom, for tighter framing and portraits. Neither arrangement is universally better.

Choose the Flip6 for wider scenes

  • Group photos and wider indoor framing
  • Landscapes and architecture
  • A dedicated ultrawide perspective
  • Samsung’s camera features and processing ecosystem

Choose the Razr 50 Ultra for tighter framing

  • Portraits and subject isolation
  • 2x compositions without relying only on digital cropping
  • Selfies using the rear cameras and cover-screen preview

Both phones support hands-free or flex-angle shooting that makes the folding form useful as a stand. Samsung lists a 50MP wide camera and 12MP ultrawide on its official product materials; the Razr’s camera configuration is included in this specification comparison. A claim that one is categorically better for low light, video or image quality would require comparable testing; the camera choice here is principally about focal lengths and preferred workflow.

Performance and gaming

The Flip6’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy is the higher-tier processor compared with the Razr 50 Ultra’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, making Samsung the stronger choice on performance headroom for demanding games, emulation and heavier workloads. Samsung also introduced a vapor chamber to the Flip line with this generation. Details are on its Flip6 upgrade page.

The Razr remains suited to ordinary use and gaming, and its 165Hz panel can make compatible content look smoother. Refresh rate is not processing speed: sustained game performance also depends on optimization, thermals, brightness and workload. Chipset hierarchy alone cannot establish which phone has better battery life or avoids throttling in every game.

Battery and charging

Both phones have a rated 4,000mAh battery, so the Razr’s advantage is charging convenience rather than larger capacity. It supports up to 68W wired charging in markets where that specification applies; the Flip6 supports 25W wired charging and wireless charging. Verify the exact regional specification and whether a compatible charger is included. Samsung’s charging information is on its product page; the capacity and charging comparison is also listed by Gadgets 360.

Battery endurance depends on inner- versus outer-screen use, brightness, refresh rate, camera use, gaming, network signal and always-on features. Review coverage has favored the Razr for endurance, but that is not a controlled guarantee for every buyer; see Expert Reviews’ comparison. Do not infer an exact runtime or full-charge time from battery capacity or maximum charging wattage.

Software, AI and update life

The Flip6 launched with Android 14 and Samsung’s One UI. Samsung advertises seven years of operating-system and security updates for the Flip6 generation, an important advantage when buying a costly foldable that may be kept for several years. One UI also gives it deeper integration with Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Buds, Samsung Health, SmartThings and Samsung services.

The Razr 50 Ultra also launched with Android 14, using Motorola’s interface, which is closer to stock Android and generally less visually dense than One UI. Motorola’s support listing currently shows Android 15 as an upgrade and Android 16 as the next OS, and schedules security updates to end in June 2028. That date is from Motorola’s EMEA support listing; update delivery can vary by region, carrier and product channel. Because the model launched in June 2024, the published end date gives it a shorter remaining support horizon than Samsung’s advertised seven-year policy.

Both brands promote AI features, but availability may depend on region, software version, account and other terms. Samsung’s original materials said certain Galaxy AI features would be free through the end of 2025; that does not establish that every feature remains free in 2026. Check the terms for the specific feature rather than assuming a blanket policy. Motorola describes its AI and Gemini features on its Razr 50 Ultra page.

Durability and repair risk

The Flip6’s IP48 rating includes a limited solid-particle test; the Razr 50 Ultra is commonly listed as IPX8, which indicates water protection but does not make the same dust-resistance claim. The ratings are not interchangeable, and neither phone should be treated as dustproof or rugged. Sand, grit, impacts and liquid outside the rating’s test conditions can still cause damage. Samsung’s rating is described on its product page; background on the Flip6 rating is also covered by TechRadar.

A less visible crease does not prove the Razr hinge or inner screen will last longer. Neither rating measures fold count, impact survival, repair cost or long-term protector reliability. Confirm local authorized service availability and warranty exclusions before buying, especially for an imported device or a used foldable.

Used or refurbished inspection checklist

  • Look for dead pixels, bright lines, touch failures, bubbles or protector lifting at the crease.
  • Open and close the hinge, checking for grinding, stiffness or uneven movement.
  • Test camera focus, the USB-C port and battery condition where available.
  • Confirm IMEI, carrier lock, exact model and original sales region.
  • Ask about liquid exposure, prior repairs, replacement parts and remaining manufacturer warranty.
  • Get a written return window and explicit coverage for the inner screen and hinge.

Which one should you buy?

Buy the Galaxy Z Flip6 if

  • Software longevity and a longer official update commitment matter most.
  • You want the stronger processor for demanding games and workloads.
  • You already use Samsung devices and services.
  • You want a dedicated ultrawide camera or prefer more conservative long-term ownership.
  • Dust resistance matters, while recognizing IP48 is not dustproofing.

Buy the Razr 50 Ultra if

  • You want a cover screen that can handle more apps and quick tasks without unfolding.
  • Faster wired charging, a larger inner display or a 165Hz refresh rate matters to you.
  • You prefer a 2x telephoto camera to an ultrawide.
  • You value a less conspicuous crease and Motorola’s cleaner-feeling Android experience.
  • You accept a shorter published software-support horizon and have confirmed regional warranty and network compatibility.

Consider neither if

  • You need rugged construction, inexpensive repairs, a crease-free screen or maximum camera performance.
  • You are paying close to current flagship prices for a 2024 foldable; compare a current conventional flagship or newer foldable at the same price.
  • You need a long ownership horizon but cannot verify support, warranty and repair coverage for the specific unit.

2026 buying advice: normalize price, region and condition

As of August 2026, Samsung’s U.S. page says the Flip6 is no longer available, and Motorola’s U.S. site promotes newer Razr models. Compare the actual price of the exact unit—not launch MSRP—and account for storage, condition, warranty and region. Check Samsung’s current U.S. Flip range, Motorola’s current Razr range, and the manufacturer’s listings for the Razr+ 2026 and Razr 2026 before settling on an older model.

For any cross-border purchase, match the model number against your carrier’s LTE and 5G bands, eSIM requirements, VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling certification, NFC/payment support and warranty territory. An imported Razr may differ from the U.S. razr+ (2024) in those respects. For a discounted Flip6, establish whether it is new old stock, open-box or refurbished, and confirm the warranty has not expired. A materially lower price can make either phone rational; if prices are close, the Flip6 is easier to defend for longevity, while the Razr rewards buyers who will use its outer screen and charging advantage.
