Its large 6.6-inch display, 5,000 mAh battery, dual-SIM design and low launch price made it attractive at the time. In 2026, however, its 2 GB of RAM, very old Android Go software, micro-USB port and commonly documented 2G/3G-only radio make it unsuitable for most people as a primary phone.
The most important buying check is the model number. Online listings often merge the Hot 8 Lite with regular Hot 8 variants such as X650B and X650C, which can have different processors, cameras and 4G support.
What is the Infinix Hot 8 Lite?
Infinix introduced the Hot 8 Lite around October 2019 as the lower-cost member of the Hot 8 family. The commonly documented international version is the X650, usually with 2 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage. It is a separate phone from the regular Hot 8, not simply a regional name for it.
Listings may use “Hot Lite,” “Hot 8 Lite,” X650, X650B or X650C interchangeably. That is a major source of incorrect specifications: some regular Hot 8 versions support 4G, use faster chipsets or offer more storage, while the commonly documented Hot 8 Lite X650 is an older 3G device.

Design and display
The phone uses a plastic body around a 6.6-inch HD+ IPS LCD. Its 720 × 1600 resolution and 20:9 shape provide a large canvas for reading, video and basic apps, but text and fine detail are less sharp than on newer Full HD phones. The waterdrop notch reduces the usable area slightly.
The large screen is useful for navigation and viewing messages, while the relatively wide body can be less comfortable for one-handed use. Published specifications do not establish water resistance or premium materials, so those should not be assumed on a used handset.

Performance and software
The MT6580/MT6580P-class quad-core platform and 2 GB RAM were entry-level components in 2019 and are very limited by 2026 standards. Android Go reduces background resource use, but it cannot turn this hardware into a modern general-purpose phone.
What it can still handle
- Calls and text messages where a compatible network remains available.
- Music playback and simple offline tasks.
- Light web browsing and low-demand utility or social applications, if their current versions still support the installed Android release.
Where it struggles
- Frequent app reloads when switching between tasks because of 2 GB RAM.
- Modern games, especially 3D titles, even at reduced settings.
- Applications that require newer Android APIs, stronger encryption or current security components.
- 32 GB storage filling quickly after system files and updates are installed.
Published sources disagree about whether units shipped with Android 8.1 Oreo Go Edition or Android 9 Pie Go Edition, and they also cite different XOS versions. Check the actual handset under Settings → About phone. No current official update commitment for this model is established; Infinix’s general support portal is at Infinix Support.
Camera quality
The commonly reported setup is an 8 MP rear camera with a QVGA auxiliary sensor and an 8 MP selfie camera. Some listings also mention HDR, panorama, a quad-LED flash and 1080p video at 30 frames per second.
Expect usable daylight snapshots and basic video, not modern computational photography. Night scenes, moving subjects, dynamic range and fine detail are weak points. The QVGA unit should not be treated as a useful ultrawide or high-resolution depth camera.

Battery and charging
A 5,000 mAh non-removable battery was one of the Hot 8 Lite’s strongest launch features. A healthy unit should provide good endurance for light use, but actual runtime depends on brightness, signal strength, background activity and 3G radio use.
Every original battery is now several years old. Reduced capacity, rapid percentage drops and unexpected shutdowns are therefore plausible on used phones. Charging uses the older micro-USB port rather than USB-C or a modern fast-charging system. Battery replacement requires opening the phone, so repair cost should be weighed against the device’s limited network and software life.
Is the Hot 8 Lite 4G?
The widely documented X650 Hot 8 Lite is generally a 2G/3G-only phone. Network listings are documented by Flagship Legends. That distinction matters more in 2026 than it did at launch because many operators have retired or reduced 3G service.
A SIM slot does not prove that a phone will work on a carrier. Before buying, confirm the exact model, supported bands and IMEI with the intended operator. This is especially important in the United States, where a 3G-only handset may be unable to place calls, send texts or use mobile data even if the SIM physically fits. Do not assume that a seller’s “Hot 8” label means the Lite has 4G.

Confirm the label in Settings → About phone and on the device before relying on any specification page.
Historical launch price
Prices were regional and are not current 2026 prices. A contemporary listing reported approximately ₦43,000–₦46,500 in Nigeria, GH₵497–GH₵525 in Ghana and KES 8,223–KES 9,076 in Kenya. These figures describe launch-era market pricing, not a universal MSRP or a reliable used-phone value.
Used-buying checklist
- Verify the model: Confirm X650 rather than a regular Hot 8 X650B or X650C.
- Check network access: Ask the carrier to validate the IMEI and bands before paying.
- Inspect Android: Open Settings → About phone and record the Android version and storage.
- Test the battery: Charge it, observe standby drain and check for shutdowns under moderate use.
- Test hardware: Examine the display, micro-USB port, cameras, speaker, headphone jack, fingerprint reader, SIM tray and microSD slot.
- Confirm account removal: The previous owner must remove their Google account before a factory reset, or Factory Reset Protection may lock the device.
- Compare value: Include the cost of a battery or port repair and compare it with a newer 4G phone.
Common listing mistakes
- 4G advertised from specifications copied from the regular Hot 8.
- Android 8.1 and Android 9 claims mixed without identifying the market.
- MT6580, MT6580P or a Helio chipset assigned without checking the model number.
- “Dual camera” wording that exaggerates the QVGA auxiliary sensor.
- 32 GB described as available free space rather than total capacity.
- Old stock sold as new despite a deteriorated battery.
Basic troubleshooting for owners
Mobile data does not work
Check SIM activation and APN settings first, then confirm that the operator still supports the phone’s 3G bands. A factory reset cannot add 4G or restore a retired network.
The phone is slow
Remove unused apps, keep free internal storage, disable unnecessary background services and choose lightweight applications where available. A microSD card expands files and media storage; it does not increase RAM.

Charging is intermittent
Try a known-good cable and charger and inspect the micro-USB port for lint or damage. Clean it carefully without forcing debris into the connector. Persistent looseness usually requires repair.
Fingerprint unlock fails
Clean the rear sensor, remove anything that obstructs access and register fingerprints again. A damaged sensor or refurbished replacement part may not recover reliably.
Is the Infinix Hot 8 Lite worth buying in 2026?
For most buyers, no. The combination of 3G-only connectivity on the common X650, obsolete Android Go software, 2 GB RAM, uncertain app support, an aging battery and a micro-USB port makes it poor value as a primary smartphone.
It can still make sense in a narrow role when the price is extremely low and compatibility is confirmed:
- Wi-Fi-only backup phone.
- Offline music player.
- Basic emergency device in an area where its 2G/3G service still operates.
- Very inexpensive phone for a low-demand user.
- Repair or replacement project for someone who already owns one.
If you need banking apps, navigation, modern messaging, dependable mobile data or continued security support, choose a newer 4G or 5G budget phone, or a refurbished model with a warranty. A current basic feature phone is also a better choice when the requirement is only calling and texting.
