It is not a safe general recommendation in 2026, however: ASUS lists software support only through 2022 and hardware support through 2023. Buy one only at a suitably low price, in excellent mechanical condition, and with the risks of an unsupported six-year-old phone understood.
ASUS Zenfone 7 at a glance
ASUS announced the ZenFone 7 (model ZS670KS) on August 26, 2020, as the 5G successor to the Zenfone 6. It launched with Android 10 and ZenUI 7. The defining feature is a motorized three-camera module that rotates from the rear to face the user.

What makes the flip camera useful—and risky?
The camera assembly rises and rotates when selfie mode is selected, so the rear cameras also serve as the front cameras. That gives selfies the main sensor’s resolution and lets you frame shots on the full display without a notch or punch-hole.

Features include preset angles, motion tracking, automatic panoramas, portrait and night modes, RAW capture and exposures of up to 32 seconds. Video reaches 8K at 30fps, 4K at 30/60fps, and slow motion up to 4K/120fps, 1080p/240fps or 720p/480fps. These are 2020-era capabilities; newer phones generally process night scenes, autofocus and stabilization better.
The mechanism is also the phone’s largest failure point. Do not force it, obstruct it with a case, or open it where it can strike a table or other object. Dust, grit, drops and repeated wear can cause looseness, grinding, hesitation, misalignment or a module that will not retract. Automatic retraction during a detected fall or obstruction is not guaranteed protection.
Display and design
The 6.67-inch 2400 × 1080 AMOLED panel is one of the Zenfone 7’s strongest features. Its 90Hz refresh rate makes scrolling smoother than 60Hz displays, and ASUS claims 700-nit outdoor readability, HDR10+, Gorilla Glass 6, Delta-E below 1, 110% DCI-P3 coverage and DC dimming. Those brightness, color and laboratory figures are manufacturer claims rather than independent measurements. Current midrange phones may offer 120Hz refresh and higher brightness.

The phone is large and heavy at about 230g and 9.6mm thick. A side-mounted fingerprint reader is integrated into the power button. ASUS’s cited specifications do not establish an IP water- or dust-resistance rating, so treat the phone as unsealed—especially around the moving camera. There is no wireless charging and no conventional built-in 3.5mm headphone jack.

Performance, storage and connectivity
Snapdragon 865, LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage were flagship hardware in 2020. They remain adequate for messaging, browsing, streaming, photography and many games, although sustained gaming depends on heat, battery condition, software and the specific title. Newer chips are generally more efficient and will receive support for longer.
ASUS lists Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and 5G. A 5G label does not guarantee service: imported ZS670KS variants can differ in LTE and 5G bands, and carriers may require certification or specific provisioning. Check the exact model against your carrier before buying.

Storage expansion is a genuine advantage. ASUS lists microSD cards up to 2TB, but verify that the physical tray and regional model match the seller’s description. Wired analog audio requires a USB-C-to-3.5mm adapter with its own DAC; a passive analog-only adapter may not work.
Battery and charging in a used phone
The factory battery is 5,000mAh and ASUS specifies charging up to 30W with compatible USB Power Delivery or Quick Charge 4.0 equipment. ASUS also advertises up to two days of use, 32 days of 4G talk time, 6.2 hours of 5G web browsing and 24 hours of video playback. These are stated test-condition figures, not promises for a used device.
In 2026, the individual battery matters more than the original rating. A heavily used or heat-exposed lithium-ion cell may have lost substantial capacity. Ask whether it has been replaced, test drain during setup and video playback, and budget for service only if parts and labor make sense locally.

Software and security status
The Zenfone 7 launched on Android 10 with ZenUI 7. ASUS’s current end-of-support policy lists software support through 2022 and hardware support through 2023. ASUS says that after end of support, official updates and support content are discontinued; this does not stop the phone from functioning, but it means there is no ongoing official security-maintenance commitment. Check ASUS’s end-of-support list and the regional support page for the device’s available firmware. Do not assume a particular final Android version without verifying the regional build.

ASUS identifies the Pro’s Snapdragon 865 Plus in its launch announcement. Do not pay a premium for a supposed Pro based only on a seller’s title; confirm the model number and camera specifications.

How to buy a Zenfone 7 used in 2026
- Confirm the model number, region and carrier-unlock status.
- Open the stock camera repeatedly. Listen for grinding, hesitation or abnormal noise and check that the module aligns and retracts.
- Test all three cameras in rear and selfie positions, including autofocus, flash, video, portrait and night modes.
- Inspect the top edge, hinge area and camera cover for impact marks, cracks or looseness.
- Check the display for burn-in, dead pixels, touch faults and green tint.
- Test USB-C charging and data transfer, the fingerprint reader and power button.
- Verify Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, LTE and 5G on the intended network.
- Test the microSD slot if expansion is important.
- Ask whether the battery or camera module was replaced.
- Ensure the phone can be factory-reset and is not locked to a previous owner’s account. Prefer a seller offering a return period or warranty.
If the camera sticks
Remove the case, restart the phone and test the stock camera after installing any final official regional firmware. Never force the module or repeatedly cycle it. Persistent failure requires a qualified repair provider, and parts availability varies by country.
If USB-C headphones fail
Use a USB-C adapter containing a DAC. A passive adapter can be incompatible with the Zenfone 7.
Who should buy it?
A reasonable purchase
- Enthusiasts who specifically want a notchless display and rear-camera selfies
- Buyers needing microSD expansion or a capable inexpensive secondary phone
- Anyone who finds a low-priced unit with a quiet, correctly aligned mechanism and healthy battery
Choose something newer instead
- People who require current security updates for banking, business or sensitive accounts
- Those needing guaranteed carrier compatibility, water resistance or wireless charging
- Buyers prioritizing compact size, long battery endurance, modern computational photography or easy repairs
- Anyone whose asking price approaches that of a newer supported midrange phone
A newer Android phone with a clearly stated security-update period is the safer alternative for primary use. A conventional fixed camera also removes a major mechanical failure point, although repairability still depends on local parts and service.
The Bottom Line
Verdict: The Zenfone 7 is an appealing enthusiast phone, not a broadly sensible 2026 daily-driver recommendation. Its display, performance, storage expansion and flip camera remain distinctive; end-of-support software, aged batteries, size and camera-mechanism risk are decisive drawbacks. Buy only a thoroughly tested, inexpensive example.
