Its clean software, headphone jack, USB-C port and microSD support remain useful, but Android 10 is its reported final official version, the promised support period has elapsed, and every used example now depends heavily on battery condition and regional network compatibility. Buy one only very cheaply, unlocked and tested; it is not a sensible primary phone for most people in 2026.

What the Nokia 6.1 Plus is
HMD Global sold this Nokia-branded Android One phone as a compact mid-range model in 2018. It is also called the Nokia X6 in certain markets. It belongs to the Nokia 6 family but is not the same hardware as the Nokia 6.1. Nor should it be confused with Nokia’s unrelated 2009 X6.
Android One provided a relatively clean interface and an original commitment of two Android-version upgrades and three years of security updates. That was a time-limited launch promise, not ongoing support. Based on the 2018 launch and available specification references, Android 10 should be treated as the final official software generation.

Design and display
The 5.8-inch Full HD+ LCD remains one of the phone’s better features. Contemporary reviews praised its sharpness, color and contrast, while criticizing brightness and adaptive-brightness behavior. At about 151g, it is small and light beside most current phones. The glass front has a notch, and the rear fingerprint reader is easy to reach for many users.
- A 3.5mm jack works with wired headphones without an adapter.
- USB-C is more convenient than the micro-USB ports common in older phones.
- There is no high-refresh-rate panel or assumed water-resistance rating.
- Inspect an old glass-bodied unit for cracks, frame separation, display damage and a loose charging port.
Performance and gaming
The Snapdragon 636 remains adequate for calls, messaging, email, maps, music, web browsing and lightweight social apps. Launch-era testing found smooth everyday use, with stutter more likely during heavy multitasking. In 2026, modern websites, background services, app updates and battery wear make performance less predictable, so it should not be described simply as fast.
Gaming
Older and casual games should run acceptably. Current demanding 3D games need low settings: contemporary testing found PUBG Mobile defaulted to low graphics and could drop frames. The Adreno 509 GPU is not suitable for modern high-end gaming, and heat, storage health and a worn battery can further reduce performance.
Camera quality
Daylight
The commonly documented 16MP-plus-5MP rear system can produce usable daylight photos with reasonable detail, color, autofocus and portrait separation for a 2018 mid-range phone. It was never class-leading, and camera resolutions differ among contemporary regional listings.

Low light is the major weakness: expect noise, lost fine detail, slower capture and weaker dynamic range than from inexpensive newer phones. Before buying a used unit, check camera startup, autofocus, portrait edges, shutter behavior, stabilization and whether the camera app works reliably on its installed Android 10 firmware. Historic features such as Bothie are not evidence of current camera superiority.
Battery and charging
The 3,060mAh battery was modest even at launch. Reviews generally described about a day under moderate use; one review reported roughly 10–15% remaining after a typical day and noted that the bundled charger did not deliver the phone’s fastest charging capability. Those are launch-era results, not a promise for a used 2026 device.

Software and updates in 2026
The phone launched with clean Android 8.1 Oreo. Available references list Android 10 as the final official version, and the original Android One security-update window has expired by inference from the launch date and policy. A clean interface does not mean current security maintenance.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To check the installed phone, use Settings → System → System update → Check for update. Labels can vary by firmware and region. If no update appears, use reliable Wi-Fi, charge the phone, free storage, restart and verify the exact model. Do not sideload firmware for another variant. Banking, enterprise, password-manager and other security-sensitive apps may reject Android 10; a factory reset cannot upgrade it. Custom ROMs are an enthusiast project with variant-specific bootloader, camera, recovery and app-compatibility risks.
Connectivity and regional compatibility
Do not assume every Nokia 6.1 Plus works on every carrier, particularly in the United States. Before purchase, confirm the model number in Settings → About phone or on the packaging, supported LTE bands, SIM-lock status, VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling on the intended carrier, and the carrier’s remaining network technologies. Also check IMEI blacklist status, dual-SIM behavior, NFC availability and whether the second slot is shared with microSD. NFC is not universal; at least one major review lists it as absent.
Is it worth buying in 2026?
It can make sense when
- The price is very low and the seller accepts returns.
- The exact variant is unlocked and compatible with the intended network.
- Battery health is demonstrated or replacement cost is acceptable.
- You need a compact secondary phone, offline media player or basic calling handset.
- You accept Android 10, obsolete security support, older cameras and no 5G.
Choose something newer when
- You need current security updates, dependable mobile payments or enterprise controls.
- You rely on long-term app compatibility, strong low-light photography or modern gaming.
- You require reliable all-day endurance from an unknown used battery.
- You need guaranteed compatibility with a particular U.S. carrier.
Gadgets 360 showed India-market listing signals of ₹10,990 for a base listing dated July 18, 2026 and ₹15,999 for a 6GB/64GB listing dated July 15, 2026. These are dated marketplace figures, not U.S. prices, guaranteed transaction values or proof of new official stock: base listing and 6GB listing. Be wary of imported, refurbished or inaccurately described “new” inventory.
Used-buying checklist
- Confirm the model number, IMEI and unlocked status; ensure the IMEI is not blacklisted.
- Have the seller reset the phone and verify that setup completes without a previous Google account.
- Check the screen for dead zones, burn-in, severe scratches and touch faults.
- Test charging without cable movement; inspect the USB-C port without forcing objects into it.
- Test battery percentage, cameras and autofocus, flash, speaker, microphone, vibration, fingerprint reader, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and cellular data.
- Test both SIM slots, microSD and the headphone jack if those features matter.
- Confirm LTE bands, VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling with your carrier, and obtain a return period.
Common problems and practical recovery
Updates are unavailable
Use Settings → System → System update → Check for update; connect to Wi-Fi, charge the phone, free storage and restart. Confirm the regional model and that it is not running a modified ROM. Never install another variant’s package simply because it appears newer. The user-guide copy documents update prerequisites.

Battery drains or the phone shuts down
Review battery usage, reduce brightness and background synchronization, update supported apps and test with good reception. Persistent rapid drain or shutdowns usually justify professional battery replacement only if its cost is below that of a newer refurbished phone.
Apps no longer install
Android 10 compatibility will continue to narrow. Use the developer’s officially supported release; avoid random APKs, especially for security-sensitive services.
Better-value alternatives
A newer refurbished Android phone is generally the stronger purchase because it offers newer security support, cameras, storage and cellular compatibility. For example, an eBay category crawl in August 2026 showed refurbished Pixel 9a listings around $276–$304, with carrier-locked and unlocked “very good” examples; prices and stock change quickly. See eBay refurbished Pixel listings. A Nokia 6.1 Plus listing is worth considering only when its low price, compact size, jack or microSD support outweigh those newer-phone advantages.
