Its defining additions are the Blue Heart (Lanxin) Xiao V AI system, Atomic Island interface, and Matter-device setup through vivo Smart Life. It is not a global rename for Funtouch OS 15: international vivo phones generally use Funtouch OS, with different services, firmware and regional support.
What OriginOS 5 is
OriginOS 5 combines Android 15 with vivo’s own interface, AI, connectivity, animation and power-management layers. vivo introduced it at its 2024 Developer Conference and positioned it around a “natural, smooth, and highly AI-enabled” experience built on the BlueLM/Lanxin model platform. The announcement is documented by vivo.
OriginOS 5 was primarily intended for mainland-China vivo and iQOO devices. A global vivo phone running Android 15 does not automatically become an OriginOS 5 phone, and vivo does not generally offer OriginOS as a normal downloadable replacement for Funtouch OS on international models.

For vivo’s global software announcement, see Funtouch OS 15. Its claim of a 15% increase in average app-startup speed under overload scenarios is vivo’s own stated result and should not be attributed to OriginOS 5.

The AI features
Blue Heart Xiao V
Lanxin Xiao V, also translated as Blue Heart Xiao V, merges vivo’s Xiao V and Jovi voice functions. vivo says it handles voice, text and drag-and-drop interaction, natural conversation, fuzzy instructions, file search and AI agents for different services and scenarios. The official feature description is at vivo Support.
Those are product capabilities, not a promise of unrestricted autonomous control. In practice, an “agent” may provide a generative answer, retrieve information, operate a supported system control, recommend a service or complete a multi-step action only where vivo and the relevant app have integrated that workflow. Language, account, network, cloud-processing and regional-service requirements can limit results.
Xiao V Search
Pressing and holding at the bottom of the screen invokes Xiao V Search. It can recognize images and let you select or circle an object for a more targeted search. This is conceptually similar to visual-search and Circle-to-Search-style interactions, but it is vivo’s implementation; it should not be described as Google Circle to Search unless that separate Google feature is present on the particular device.
Xiao V Suggestions
Xiao V Suggestions surfaces contextual recommendations and services. Its usefulness depends on supported Chinese apps, permissions, account and language settings, region, and whether an app has integrated with vivo’s framework.
Other model-dependent AI functions
- Dialect and voice-style broadcasting.
- AI-assisted visual understanding and accessibility functions such as “Vivo See” on supported models.
- AI document and file handling.
- AI-powered system recommendations.
vivo’s support pages mark some functions as model-dependent or subject to later adaptation, so a feature list is not a guarantee for every OriginOS 5 phone: vivo support information.

Atomic Island: a system-level information surface
Atomic Island displays device-status changes, Atomic notifications, media information, Xiao V Suggestions, drag-and-drop shortcuts and selected live information or service prompts. It is software, not a special hardware component. Like Apple’s Dynamic Island and other live-status surfaces, its value depends on app integration and the services available in the phone’s market.
Matter smart-home support
vivo’s Smart Life app can add Matter-certified lights, switches and smart plugs. Matter is an industry interoperability standard, not a vivo-exclusive technology. vivo said its 2024 ecosystem included more than 1,200 compatible product SKUs across supported categories; that is an ecosystem statement, not a guarantee that every SKU works with every OriginOS 5 phone.
Add a Matter device
- Install or open vivo Smart Life and sign in if required.
- Put the Matter light, switch or plug into pairing mode.
- Open Smart Life and tap + in the upper-right corner.
- Select Add Device.
- Scan for nearby devices or scan the Matter QR code.
- Enter the Matter setup code if prompted.
- Assign the device to a room and test it.
The documented path is Smart Life → Home → + → Add Device: vivo’s setup guidance.
What Matter still requires
- A genuinely Matter-certified product, its QR code or setup code, and current firmware.
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or Thread commissioning support appropriate to that product.
- A compatible OriginOS 5 phone, current Smart Life app and suitable account region.
- The same local network during setup when the product requires it.
- A Matter controller or Thread border router for some Thread-based devices. The phone should not be assumed to provide border-router infrastructure.
vivo’s documented examples are lights, switches and plugs. Support for locks, cameras, thermostats, blinds, bridges and appliances can vary by firmware, app and region.
If pairing fails
- Reset the product and enter pairing mode again.
- Try QR-code pairing instead of nearby-device discovery.
- Confirm the phone and device are on the required local network.
- Check for a required Thread border router.
- Update Smart Life and the phone’s system software.
- Check region and account settings, then test with a Matter light, plug or switch.
Sideloading a newer app cannot be assumed to add categories unsupported by the phone’s OriginOS 5 build.

Connection Center is broader than Matter
OriginOS 5’s Connection Center can bring together tablets, earbuds, watches, computers, TVs, air conditioners, smart lights and digital car keys. It is vivo’s device-management layer, separate from Matter’s cross-brand interoperability.
- Open Settings → System Management and Upgrade → Control Center.
- Choose the split control-center and notification-center layout if necessary.
- Enable Show Connection Center.
- Swipe down from the right side of the status bar.
- Tap the Connection Center card, then + to add devices.

Lock-screen controls and widgets
Lock-screen widgets can expose smart-air-conditioner and remote-control functions, device status, steps, temperature, alarms, calendar and battery information.

vivo lists Midea, Haier, Gree and Changhong for the air-conditioner widget, but that does not establish support for every model from those brands: vivo’s instructions.

These were public-beta recruitment batches, not guaranteed stable-build dates. Exact availability depended on the China-market model, firmware region and update channel. Check the model-specific notice at vivo support. As of August 18, 2026, OriginOS 5 is an older Android 15 generation; later OriginOS versions exist.
What importing a China-ROM phone can mean
- Google services, Android Auto, banking apps, wearables and push notifications may vary or fail.
- Chinese-language optimization and mainland-China service integrations may reduce the value of Xiao V abroad.
- LTE and 5G bands, warranty coverage and repair options require local verification.
- China and global firmware may have different bootloader policies, update channels and app compatibility; switching editions is not generally an officially supported assumption.
- AI functions can require an account, network access, cloud processing or a third-party integration, raising privacy and data-location questions.
For an international buyer who wants predictable regional software, a global vivo phone with Funtouch OS 15 or a later global platform is the safer category. Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, OnePlus and Xiaomi global models are other categories to evaluate, but their current model support and Matter behavior must be checked separately.
Who should seek out OriginOS 5?
China-based vivo or iQOO owner
OriginOS 5 is a substantial Android 15 update if you value Blue Heart AI, Atomic Island, China-market services and vivo’s device ecosystem.
Global vivo owner
Do not assume OriginOS 5 can be installed on your Funtouch OS phone. Verify the exact model and region before considering any firmware change.
Smart-home user
It is promising for Matter lights, plugs and switches, provided Smart Life, the network and any required controller or border router support the product.
Import buyer
Evaluate Google services, notifications, Android Auto, language, banking apps, bands, warranty, updates and privacy before giving Atomic Island or AI features priority.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: OriginOS 5 is a meaningful China-market Android 15 platform whose standout features are Blue Heart AI, Atomic Island and documented Matter onboarding. Its benefits are tightly linked to vivo’s Chinese app ecosystem and model-specific firmware, while global buyers generally receive Funtouch OS instead.
