Which Galaxy Tab A 10.1 models are eligible?
Check the model number rather than relying on the retail name. Open Settings > About tablet and read the model number.

Samsung identifies the Wi‑Fi 2019 model as SM-T510 on its support page. Do not confuse these tablets with the older 2016 models, such as SM-T580 or SM-T585; their firmware is different.
When did Android 11 roll out?
There was no single worldwide release day. Samsung distributes firmware by model, country, carrier and CSC (sales-region software channel). For example, Samsung’s regional SM-T515 record lists build T515XXU8CUF2 as an Android 11/One UI 3.1 release dated July 27, 2021, with the June 1, 2021 security patch. That date describes the cited regional firmware record, not the day every owner received an over-the-air notification.

The same SM-T515 history lists later Android 11 maintenance builds, including T515XXU8CUJ1 (November 10, 2021), T515XXS8CVD1 (May 3, 2022) and T515XXS8CVL1 (December 30, 2022, with the December 1, 2022 security patch). What Android 11 and One UI 3.1 change
The tablet originally shipped with Android 9 Pie, then received Android 10 with One UI 2. Android 11 brings Samsung’s One UI 3.1 interface and the Android 11 platform. Samsung describes the update as including:

Not every Android 11 or One UI feature shown on newer Galaxy phones and tablets appears on this entry-level hardware. Availability can depend on the processor, memory, region, carrier software, Samsung account services and individual app support. Samsung also documents Buds auto-switching in the SM-T515 notes, but compatible Galaxy Buds, account, phone and software versions are required.
How to install the update safely
- Charge the tablet to about 50% or keep it connected to a charger.
- Connect to a reliable Wi‑Fi network.
- Back up photos, documents and important app data.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update, then Download and install.
- Review the offered build and accept the installation.
- Keep the tablet powered on while it restarts and completes the upgrade.
- Verify the result under Settings > About tablet > Software information. Check for Android version 11, One UI 3.1 where shown, and the installed security-patch date.
Labels can vary slightly by region and build, but this is Samsung’s standard over-the-air route.

Why Android 11 may not appear
A missing notification does not by itself mean the tablet is ineligible. Work through these checks:
- Confirm the model is SM-T510 or SM-T515, not a 2016 Tab A model.
- Check Android version, One UI version and Service provider software version under About tablet.
- Restart the tablet, try another stable Wi‑Fi connection and retry Settings > Software update > Download and install.
- Free several gigabytes of internal storage; an update needs temporary working space beyond the advertised free capacity.
- Install pending Google Play and Samsung app updates.
- Consider regional or carrier timing, especially on an imported LTE tablet. Its original CSC can control which firmware server and schedule it follows.
- If the device was rooted or manually flashed, its software channel may no longer qualify for normal OTA delivery.
- Contact Samsung support with the exact model and serial number if the server still offers nothing.
Manual flashing and failed installations
Firmware is not interchangeable between SM-T510 and SM-T515. Before any manual installation, the exact model, country/CSC, bootloader revision and hardware variant must match. An incorrect package can fail, erase data or leave the tablet unusable. For most owners, OTA installation is the safest option.

If an installation fails, keep the tablet powered, restart it, free storage and retry. Samsung’s official desktop recovery or update tools may help where supported for the model and region. Back up before considering a factory reset, and treat that reset as a last resort. Unofficial Android 11 ROMs are a separate project with risks to bootloader access, banking apps, Widevine/DRM, camera functions, stability, warranty and data.

The cited Samsung records document Android 11 with One UI 3.1 and later Android 11 maintenance firmware for both model families. They do not establish an official Android 12 release for the 2019 Tab A 10.1. A tablet can be on Android 11 while its security patch is years old, so check the actual patch date rather than treating the Android version as proof of current security support. The SM-T515 record reaches December 2022; that does not demonstrate continuing security support in 2026.

Keeping it makes sense when
- It handles streaming, reading, recipes, light browsing or children’s use adequately.
- Your required apps still install and work from Google Play.
- Battery life and storage remain acceptable.
- You want the Android 11 privacy and interface changes without flashing software.
Replacement is more sensible when
- An important app requires a newer Android release.
- The security patch is too old for your risk tolerance.
- Battery wear, slow multitasking or limited storage disrupts normal use.
- You need current security support, USB-C, better cameras, a stronger processor or a higher-quality display.
Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP document lists newer reference points: the Galaxy Tab A9 Wi‑Fi (4GB/64GB) at $191.99, Galaxy Tab A11+ Wi‑Fi (6GB/128GB) at $249.99 and (8GB/256GB) at $309.99, and the Galaxy Tab S10 FE Wi‑Fi (8GB/128GB) at $499.99. These are MSRP figures, not guaranteed sale prices. Product pages are available for the Galaxy Tab A9, Galaxy Tab A11+ and Galaxy Tab S10 FE. A newer model offers a newer platform, but Samsung’s future support duration should be verified for the exact device before purchase.
Before buying a used or refurbished unit
- Ask for a photo of Settings > About tablet showing SM-T510 or SM-T515.
- Check the installed Android version and security-patch date.
- Confirm battery condition, charging behavior and available storage.
- Ask whether the tablet was rooted, unlocked or manually flashed.
- Do not assume an “Android 11” listing means current security support.
The Bottom Line
The 2019 Galaxy Tab A 10.1 genuinely received Android 11 with One UI 3.1 on SM-T510 and SM-T515 models. Update through Samsung’s normal software screen when available, but judge continued use by the tablet’s patch level, battery, app compatibility and performance—not by Android 11 alone.
