Short answer: the “Disney+ and Star+ prices increase” headline combines two different Latin American events. Star+ launched as a separate service on August 31, 2021, at an announced approximate price of US$7.50 per month, while a Disney+/Star+ bundle was about US$9. In 2024, Disney folded Star’s entertainment catalog and ESPN content into a redesigned Disney+ experience. In Latin America today, Star+ no longer has the old standalone subscription price.
Your current charge depends on your country, plan tier, promotion, taxes, billing provider and whether you were moved from a legacy Disney+, Star+ or Combo+ subscription.
What the headline actually refers to
“Price increase” can describe several different changes: a Disney+ standalone price, the former Star+ subscription, the Disney+/Star+ Combo+ bundle, or the post-2024 Disney+ plans. It can also refer to a country-specific adjustment, a promotion ending, an annual renewal, taxes, currency conversion or a charge from Apple, Google, a telecom operator or another partner.
There was never one permanent dollar price for every Latin American market. Disney said local prices, currencies and third-party charges could vary by territory. See Disney’s regional launch explanation at Disney+ Latin America.

2021: Star+ launched as a separate Latin American service
Disney+ was already available in Latin America when Disney announced Star+, a complementary service focused on general entertainment and sports, including ESPN-related programming. Star+ launched in the region on August 31, 2021, as its own app and subscription rather than simply appearing inside the existing Disney+ plan. Disney announced these approximate monthly figures:

The figures came from Disney’s corporate announcement at thewaltdisneycompany.com. They should be treated as historical guidance, not as current prices or as proof that every country charged the same amount.

Why the 2021 change felt like a price increase
For a household that wanted Disney’s family catalog plus Star’s adult-oriented entertainment and sports, the relevant comparison was often the cost of adding Star+ or buying Combo+, not a simple surcharge on an unchanged Disney+ product. The content proposition expanded, and the billing could show two services or a bundle depending on the customer’s choice.

Disney announced a new Latin American Disney+ experience on March 28, 2024. The relaunch went live on June 26, 2024, adding Star general-entertainment content and ESPN programming inside Disney+. The announcement is available from Disney Latin America, with launch details at Disney’s June 26 release.
Existing customers who subscribed directly to Disney+, Star+ or Combo+ were moved into the new structure. Disney identified Premium access for those direct subscribers, but entitlements could differ when a subscription came through a commercial partner.

What the Premium proposition included
- Star general-entertainment programming inside Disney+.
- ESPN content, with the exact channels, events and availability depending on country and plan.
- Up to four simultaneous devices.
- UHD/HDR and Dolby Atmos where supported by the title, device and local offer.
Disney’s Mexico plan-feature announcement lists those technical and sports qualifications at this official release. The integration was therefore a product restructuring as well as a billing change; it was not merely an across-the-board increase for the old apps.
Does Star+ still exist?
Not as the former standalone Latin American service. The Star brand now functions as a Disney+ content hub in the integrated product. Someone searching for a “Star+ price” is generally looking for the Disney+ tier that includes the former Star catalog and, depending on country and tier, ESPN access.
Disney’s financial reporting distinguishes the period before July 2024, when Disney+ and Star+ were separate Latin American services, from the integrated structure that followed. See the company’s fiscal 2024 earnings report and annual report.

Current prices: verify your country and checkout path
Disney does not publish one reliable, permanent Latin American price that can be applied to every country. The amount shown at signup can change with taxes, currency, promotions, plan availability and whether Disney or a partner bills you.
Brazil: two official pages show different figures
Disney’s Brazil pages currently surface conflicting retail figures:

The available pages do not establish whether the difference reflects a limited promotion, a page variant, tax treatment or a price update. Check the live signup flow for your location and billing method before subscribing. A promotional amount may renew at the then-current retail price after the offer ends.

Why U.S. prices do not answer a Latin American question
Disney’s U.S. help page lists, among other products, Disney+, Hulu and ESPN Select bundles at $19.99 per month for Basic, $29.99 for Premium and $35.99 for the Unlimited Basic bundle. Those are U.S. bundle prices, not Latin American Disney+/Star+ prices. The source is Disney+ U.S. price support.
Why your bill may be different
- Country and currency: prices are set for individual markets and may include local taxes or currency conversion.
- Billing provider: Apple, Google, Roku, a cable company, telecom operator or marketplace can set a different charge, billing date or cancellation process.
- Promotion expiry: an introductory price can end and renew at the standard rate.
- Annual renewal: an annual plan may renew at the current annual price rather than the amount paid at the previous renewal.
- Legacy migration: a former Disney+, Star+ or Combo+ subscription may have been moved to a different Disney+ tier.
- Partner entitlement: a telecom, loyalty program or marketplace package may include a specific tier or sports entitlement that is unavailable through direct signup.
- Different billing dates: the charge can appear on a renewal date that does not match the date of a public announcement.
To identify the cause, open your Disney+ account page, record the exact plan name, find the listed billing provider, check the next renewal date and compare the amount with the promotion or annual terms you accepted. If Disney does not bill you directly, contact the provider shown on the receipt. How to decide whether to keep or change the plan
Check the content you actually use
- Keep a tier that includes the Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic titles your household watches.
- If you use the former Star catalog regularly, remember that it is now accessed through Disney+, not a separate Star+ subscription.
- If live sports matter, confirm the ESPN channels and events included in your country and tier; access is not identical everywhere.
Match features to household needs
- Lower-priced plans can cost less but may include advertising and fewer technical features.
- Premium plans cost more but can add higher resolution, HDR, Dolby Atmos, more simultaneous streams and broader sports access where offered.
- Annual billing can reduce the effective monthly cost, but it commits you for a longer period and may renew at a higher rate.
Compare the billing route, not just the headline price
Direct Disney billing, an app-store subscription and a telecom or marketplace bundle can have different prices, cancellation rules, renewal dates and included tiers. Compare the total recurring cost and entitlement before switching. Partner packages such as Mercado Libre/Meli+ have carried Disney+ Premium in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Colombia, but eligibility and terms are country-specific; see Mercado Libre and the regional Disney announcement for current availability.
