Short answer: The POCO F6 is the better value buy, while the POCO F6 Pro is the feature-rich option. Both launched globally on May 23, 2024, but they use different Snapdragon platforms: the F6 has the newer Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, and the Pro uses the previous-generation flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The Pro adds a sharper display, faster charging, premium materials, more storage and 8K video, but it is not guaranteed to be faster in every task.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 versus Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
What the F6 chip means
POCO describes the F6’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 as a 4nm platform with the same generation of Prime Cortex-X4 CPU core used by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It is paired with LPDDR5X memory, UFS 4.0 storage and POCO’s WildBoost Optimization 3.0 gaming features. The “8s Gen 3” name does not mean it is the same chip as Snapdragon 8 Gen 3; it is a lower-positioned 8-series platform.
Why the Pro is not automatically faster
The F6 Pro uses the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a former flagship chip with strong graphics performance and mature game optimization. Independent testing cited by Android Authority found the F6 ahead in some single-core and PCMark results and close to the Pro in parts of a 3DMark stress test. Results vary by benchmark, software version, temperature and test duration, so neither phone wins every workload.
POCO’s own benchmark percentages and AnTuTu results are internal-lab measurements. They should not be treated as universal performance guarantees or compared without matching test versions and conditions.

Gaming and sustained workloads
Both models use POCO’s LiquidCool Technology 4.0 and IceLoop cooling systems, with model-specific cooling hardware. The Pro remains appealing for sustained GPU-heavy gaming and for buyers who want 8K recording. WIRED found that the F6 could become warm during long gaming sessions and described its heavy-use battery life as adequate rather than exceptional.

Display, design and durability
Display advantage: F6 Pro
Both screens are 6.67-inch 120Hz AMOLED panels, but the Pro’s 3200 × 1440 WQHD+ resolution is visibly sharper on fine text and high-resolution media than the F6’s 2712 × 1220 1.5K panel. Its claimed 4,000-nit peak also exceeds the F6’s claimed 2,400 nits. Those are special-mode peak measurements, not a promise of that brightness across the entire screen.
Both phones may require selecting 120Hz in display settings; WIRED noted that the mode was not active in every default configuration. At normal phone-viewing distances, many users will notice refresh-rate smoothness more than the resolution difference.

Materials versus protection
The Pro feels more expensive with an aluminum frame and glass back, but the cheaper F6 has the stronger stated protection: Gorilla Glass Victus and IP64, compared with Gorilla Glass 5 and IP54 on the Pro. IP64 indicates dust-tight protection and resistance to water splashes; IP54 indicates limited dust protection and splash resistance. Neither rating makes either phone waterproof for submersion, and seals can be compromised by drops, repairs or wear.
Battery and charging
Both phones have 5,000mAh batteries. The F6 supports 90W wired charging; the Pro raises that to 120W. POCO quotes approximately 35 minutes from 2% to 100% for the F6 and approximately 19 minutes for the Pro in separate laboratory tests.
Recommended Free Tools
Those times use the supplied charger, display off and a manually enabled boost mode. Temperature, battery condition, charger settings and active use change real-world results. WIRED found that the difference in complete charging time was not always dramatic. Neither model has wireless charging; the F6 Pro specifically lacks it despite that feature appearing on the previous F5 Pro.

Camera and video differences
POCO F6 cameras
- 50MP main camera with OIS and Sony IMX882 sensor
- 8MP ultrawide camera
- 20MP front camera
- Up to 4K/60fps video at launch
POCO F6 Pro cameras
- 50MP main camera with OIS and Light Fusion 800 sensor
- 8MP ultrawide camera
- 2MP macro camera
- 16MP front camera
- 8K/24fps recording
The Pro’s main sensor can produce slightly sharper images in some situations, while WIRED found the F6’s colors closer to reality in others. The Pro’s 8K mode is a genuine capability difference, but its 2MP macro camera adds little practical value. Neither phone is a camera-first flagship; photography buyers should compare image processing and low-light results with camera-focused alternatives rather than relying on megapixel counts.
Software and connectivity
Both launched with Xiaomi’s HyperOS interface over Android 14, an in-display fingerprint reader and an IR blaster. The F6 lists Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 6. The Pro lists Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 7, although Wi-Fi 7 availability depends on the regional model and a compatible router. Xiaomi’s UK specifications page notes that network and wireless features can vary by region.
Do not assume a specific number of Android or security updates without checking the current policy for your market. Imported units can also differ in 5G bands, NFC, software region, charger and warranty support.

Choose the POCO F6 for value
- You want the lowest price for high-end gaming-class performance.
- You prefer its newer CPU architecture and do not need a guaranteed performance lead in every benchmark.
- Gorilla Glass Victus and the stronger IP64 rating matter more than metal-and-glass construction.
- A 1.5K display and 90W charging are sufficient.
- You do not need 8K video or the Pro’s 1TB option.
Choose the POCO F6 Pro for features
- You want the sharper WQHD+ display and higher claimed peak brightness.
- 120W charging is worth paying for.
- You prefer an aluminum frame and glass back.
- You need 16GB/1TB where that configuration is sold.
- You specifically want 8K/24fps video and a stronger sustained-GPU package.
The Pro’s premium is mainly buying screen, charging, materials, storage and video features—not a guaranteed large everyday speed increase.
Check these details before ordering
- Confirm the regional model: Verify 5G bands, Wi-Fi version, NFC and storage for your country using the seller’s exact model number.
- Check the box contents: Charger wattage and inclusion can vary by market.
- Verify warranty and returns: An imported phone may have seller-only support instead of local manufacturer coverage.
- Choose storage carefully: UFS 4.0 is fast, but expandable storage is not a core feature of these models.
- Check network compatibility: Do not assume a global listing will work fully on your carrier, especially in the United States.
- Budget for protection: A case and screen protector are sensible despite the stated IP ratings, which do not cover drop or liquid damage beyond test conditions.
Verdict
For most performance-focused buyers, the POCO F6 is the smarter value: it costs less, can match or beat the Pro in some CPU and productivity tests, and has the stronger stated glass and IP rating. Choose the POCO F6 Pro when its WQHD+ display, 120W charging, premium construction, larger storage ceiling or 8K video directly matters to you. If camera quality, wireless charging, a headphone jack, guaranteed local carrier support or long-term update certainty is your top priority, verify alternatives and regional policies before choosing either model.
