Intel announced that its desktop Arc A770 graphics card would launch on October 12, 2022, with prices starting at $329. That headline figure applied to 8GB partner cards; Intel’s own 16GB Limited Edition was priced at $349. The launch covered select markets, and partner models were expected to arrive in the weeks after Intel’s card.
Arc A770 prices at launch
| Configuration | Memory | Announced price | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Partner Arc A770 models | 8GB | Starting at $329 | Expected from partners in the weeks following launch |
| Intel Arc A770 Limited Edition | 16GB | $349 | Intel said it would be available October 12, 2022 |
Intel’s detailed announcement makes clear that $329 was a starting price, not a universal price for every A770. Board design, cooling, factory overclocking, retailer pricing, taxes and region could all change the final price. The $349 figure specifically described Intel’s 16GB Limited Edition. Intel announced the pricing split on September 29, 2022, after the company previewed the October 12 date during its September 27 Innovation event.
When and where was the A770 available?
Intel announced October 12, 2022 as the retail launch date for the A770 and A750, but its launch wording referred to select markets, not worldwide availability. Intel specified October 12 for the 16GB Limited Edition, while 8GB partner boards were described as arriving in the following weeks. An announcement date therefore did not guarantee that every model was simultaneously in stock at every retailer. Intel’s launch-day coverage is archived here.
Why Intel compared the A770 with the RTX 3060
Intel positioned the A770 as a mainstream-to-high-performance desktop card and compared it with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3060. In Intel’s own selected testing, the company said the A770 and A750 could trade blows with the RTX 3060 and deliver better performance per dollar. Intel based its RTX 3060 pricing comparison on a Newegg snapshot taken September 22, 2022.
#1 Best Overall
- System Compatibility Note: This 2-slot card measures 271 x 112 x 39 mm and requires a single 12V-2x6-pin power connector. Please verify chassis and PSU compatibility before purchase.
- Dedicated Support: Please contact us directly through Amazon for any product questions or assistance you may require.
- Professional Intel Arc Pro B70 GPU: Built on the Intel Xe2-HPG architecture, it features 32 Xe cores and 256 XMX engines, designed to accelerate AI, rendering, and complex visualization workloads.
- Massive 32GB GDDR6 VRAM: Equipped with 32GB of high-speed GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit bus, running at 19 Gbps, which allows for handling large AI models and complex datasets locally.
- High-Performance Engine Clock: Delivers an engine clock of 2540 MHz, providing the compute power needed for demanding professional applications and AI inference.
Those were vendor-supplied conclusions, not an independent benchmark result. Intel highlighted particularly strong results in newer DirectX 12 and Vulkan games, while performance could be less favorable in some older DirectX 11 workloads. Game engine, API, driver version and settings all mattered, so “the A770 beats the RTX 3060” is too broad a summary.
Features Intel emphasized
- XeSS: AI-assisted upscaling intended to increase performance while preserving image quality in supported games.
- Hardware ray tracing: Dedicated acceleration for ray-traced effects.
- AV1 encoding: Hardware-based AV1 video encoding, relevant to streaming and video production.
- Memory options: 8GB on the partner cards cited by Intel and 16GB on the Limited Edition.
- Overclocking: Intel promoted tuning capability for users willing to adjust performance and power settings.
Feature support does not by itself establish performance parity with another GPU. Real results depended on software support, game API and drivers.
The “65%” ray-tracing statement
Intel’s September 27 live blog said the A770 delivered up to 65% higher peak ray-tracing performance than unnamed “competition.” The excerpt does not establish the competitor model, test conditions or workload, so the figure should be treated only as an Intel claim, not a general benchmark conclusion. The original event record is available in Intel’s Innovation live blog PDF.

Launch-game promotions
For qualifying Arc 7-series purchases, Intel promoted Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II along with games including Gotham Knights, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed and The Settlers. Registration, eligibility, supply limits and other terms applied; the promotion was tied to the 2022 launch and should not be assumed to remain redeemable. Intel’s promotion details were published here.
What launch buyers had to weigh
Reasons the A770 looked attractive
- The advertised entry price undercut many contemporary mainstream cards.
- The $349 Limited Edition offered 16GB, only $20 above the $329 starting figure.
- AV1 encoding, XeSS and dedicated ray tracing broadened its feature set.
- Intel’s data suggested potential value in DirectX 12 and Vulkan games.
Reasons for caution
- $329 applied to qualifying 8GB partner models, not automatically to the 16GB card.
- Partner-board prices and availability varied by design, retailer and market.
- Performance depended heavily on the game and graphics API.
- Intel’s performance-per-dollar analysis used its own test selection and methodology.
- Early Arc ownership required attention to driver maturity and game compatibility.
What the announcement means in 2026
The A770 launch was historically significant because Intel was entering the discrete desktop GPU market as a third major vendor and using price, VRAM and media features to challenge Nvidia and AMD. But $329 and $349 are 2022 launch prices, not current-market guidance. As of August 18, 2026, anyone considering an A770 should check actual used or remaining-new prices, current driver support and performance against newer GPUs before buying.
