According to StatCounter Global Stats, Microsoft Edge accounted for 5.37% of worldwide browser usage across all platforms in July 2026. On desktop computers, Edge accounted for 11.14%. In StatCounter’s tables, that placed Edge third overall—behind Chrome and Safari—and second on desktop, behind Chrome.
These are shares of observed web page views, not percentages of people, installed browsers, or Microsoft customers. StatCounter’s latest published figures should also be treated as subject to its 45-day quality-assurance revision period.

Why Edge’s desktop share is higher
Edge is closely associated with Windows desktops and laptops, where Microsoft controls the operating system distribution and default-browser experience. Microsoft does not operate a mobile platform on the scale of Android or iOS. Safari therefore benefits from Apple’s mobile ecosystem, while Chrome is distributed across desktop, Android, iOS and other environments.
All-platform statistics combine different device markets, and mobile browsing represents a large portion of worldwide activity. Preinstallation, Windows distribution, enterprise defaults, synchronization, user choice and browser switching can all influence Edge usage; StatCounter’s figures cannot isolate the effect of any one factor.

What StatCounter measures
StatCounter Global Stats analyzes page views recorded through its web-analytics network. It says the network covers more than 1 million websites and more than 3 billion page views per month. Browser, operating-system, screen-resolution and device information are inferred from technical signals such as user-agent data. The visitors are third parties visiting member sites, not only visitors to StatCounter’s own website.
- The percentage is normally a browser’s share of tracked page views.
- StatCounter removes bot activity and describes additional quality adjustments, including an adjustment for Chrome prerendering.
- It says worldwide figures are not artificially weighted by geography.
- Published data can be revised for 45 days after publication, and StatCounter updates its data daily.
Read the methodology at StatCounter’s FAQ, factsheet and About page. StatCounter itself notes that users must judge whether the methodology fits their purpose, so these figures are best described as broad estimates of observed web usage rather than official market totals.
What 5.37% does—and does not—mean
It means that, in StatCounter’s July 2026 worldwide all-platform sample, page views attributed to Edge represented 5.37% of tracked browser page views. It does not directly measure:
- the percentage of people with Edge installed;
- the percentage of devices containing Edge;
- Microsoft’s monthly active users or customer base;
- browsing sessions, time spent, downloads or preferred browsers;
- enterprise-managed endpoints or browser installations.
Page views are used instead of unique visitors because one person can use several browsers and generate very different amounts of traffic in each. High-frequency users, site categories and the participating-site mix can therefore affect the result.

Geography and platform filters matter
Worldwide figures should not be treated as a proxy for a country, region, company or customer base. StatCounter provides separate views for Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, South America, the United States and individual countries.

- Worldwide desktop browser share
- Worldwide mobile browser share
- United States desktop browser share
A Windows-heavy enterprise may see substantially more Edge than the worldwide average, while a mobile-first consumer site may see less. Use your own analytics for audience-specific decisions.
How to read Edge’s trend
The June 2026 all-platform result surfaced in StatCounter data was 5.21%; July was 5.37%. That one-month movement is not enough to establish adoption growth or decline. Sampling changes, detection adjustments, ordinary volatility and later revisions can all affect a monthly value.
For a defensible trend, open StatCounter’s chart, select a 12-month period such as July 2025 through July 2026, and compare equivalent months. A single-month view is best for the latest snapshot; a rolling 12-month view smooths short-term fluctuations. Label recent values as provisional when they remain inside the 45-day revision window.

Using the numbers for web development and IT
Compatibility testing
Edge’s 11.14% worldwide desktop share makes desktop support important, especially for Windows and enterprise audiences. Edge is Chromium-based, so many Chrome-compatible sites also work in Edge, but Chromium does not guarantee identical behavior. Release channels, enterprise policies, extensions, privacy settings, feature flags, Microsoft integrations and WebView contexts can differ.
Choosing the right metric
- Use all-platform worldwide share for broad consumer-web context.
- Use desktop share for Windows deployment and desktop compatibility planning.
- Use country or regional charts when your audience is geographically concentrated.
- Use browser-version data when a specific API or rendering change matters. See StatCounter’s browser-version charts.
- Prioritize your own first-party analytics for decisions about your actual visitors.
Do not treat Edge’s browser-brand percentage as Chromium/Blink engine share. Other Chromium-based browsers are separate brands, and an engine analysis requires a different classification.

- Open StatCounter’s browser market-share chart.
- Select Browser as the statistic.
- Choose Worldwide or the required country or region.
- Choose the platform: all platforms, desktop, mobile, tablet, or a combined view.
- Select a monthly date range and record the exact month shown.
- Use Download Data (.csv) in the chart interface when you need a reproducible dataset.
- Save the chart URL, filters and retrieval date.
- For a permanent report, recheck the value after the 45-day revision period.
Comparing StatCounter with other sources
Compare the result with your own analytics, enterprise endpoint inventory and, where useful, compatibility tables such as Can I Use’s usage table. Do not average providers into a single number. Services can differ because of sample size, page-view versus unique-visitor definitions, weighting, JavaScript coverage and browser classification.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Edge the second-most-used browser worldwide?
Only in the desktop category in StatCounter’s July 2026 worldwide table. Across all platforms, Edge ranked third behind Chrome and Safari.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Is StatCounter Microsoft’s official user count?
No. StatCounter is an independent web-analytics service; its figures estimate tracked page-view usage and are not Microsoft installation or active-user data.
Why might my website’s Edge percentage differ from 5.37%?
Your visitors may differ by country, device mix, industry, traffic source and audience. First-party analytics describe your site, whereas StatCounter’s figure is a worldwide estimate from its participating-site network.
Can StatCounter browser figures change after publication?
Yes. StatCounter says published data may be revised during a 45-day quality-assurance period.
Which Edge figure should a developer use?
Use the platform and geography matching your audience, then validate the decision against your own browser-version analytics. Desktop share is generally more relevant to Windows-heavy audiences; all-platform share is more relevant to mixed consumer traffic.
