Its bright AMOLED screen and comfortable 21g design remain appealing, but the 2020 device has no GPS, its heart-rate readings drew criticism in independent testing, and compatibility with today’s phones is not assured. For runners, accurate heart-rate training or a dependable used swim tracker, look elsewhere.

Specification and compatibility details are listed on Samsung’s Galaxy Fit2 support page. The Fit2 is a basic fitness band, not a full smartwatch. Do not confuse it with the older Gear Fit2, which is a different product with a different feature set.
Design and display: light and vivid, but narrow
The plastic case and TPU strap keep the Fit2 light at 21g, making it unobtrusive for everyday wear and overnight sleep tracking. Samsung listed Black and Scarlet color options. Its 1.1-inch AMOLED display is a highlight: TechRadar found it bright, vibrant and easy to view outdoors and at night. Watch faces offer some personalization.
The display is narrow, so reading notifications involves more scrolling than on a wider watch. There is no always-on mode, and interaction is touchscreen-based rather than through a physical button. A capacitive touch area returns to the main screen, but it is less obvious and can be less convenient during exercise than a button. The screen looks better than the band’s age and price might suggest; it does not make the Fit2 a smartwatch.

What the Fit2 tracks—and where it falls short
Steps and everyday activity
The accelerometer and gyroscope support step counts, distance estimates, calorie estimates, inactivity alerts and automatic exercise detection. These are useful for general activity awareness, not a substitute for precise sports instrumentation. Distance and calorie figures are estimates.
Sleep
The band can detect sleep automatically and provide duration and sleep-stage-related information, including REM insights reported by TechRadar. Its low weight and multiday battery make overnight wear practical. Treat the results as wellness trends rather than clinical measurements or a way to diagnose a sleep problem.
Workouts and outdoor tracking
You can use it for simple workouts when approximate information is enough. Automatic workout detection may be less useful than starting an exercise manually. The Fit2 has no GPS and, according to TechRadar’s testing, does not use the phone’s GPS either. Without location data or an altimeter, outdoor distance, pace and elevation are not dependable training metrics; the band relies on motion sensors. Runners and cyclists who need routes or accurate pace should choose a tracker or sports watch with GPS.

Heart rate and stress estimates
The optical sensor provides continuous heart-rate readings that feed exercise and stress-related features. TechRadar criticized its heart-rate accuracy, making this the Fit2’s most important weakness for anyone training to heart-rate zones. Optical readings can also be affected by fit, movement, skin contact, exercise intensity and band placement. Treat the numbers as approximate wellness information, not medical readings; do not use them for diagnosis or treatment decisions.

Samsung lists 5ATM and IP68 protection and describes the Fit2 as swim-ready. Those ratings are not a promise of unlimited water use, and water resistance can degrade through age, impact, heat, chemicals or damaged seals. For a used band with unknown history—or one that has been dropped, opened or visibly damaged—do not assume it remains safe to swim with.
Notifications are useful, but this is not a smartwatch
The Fit2 can show incoming call and text notifications, weather, schedules and activity or wellness widgets; it also offers music controls, watch faces and a handwashing timer. Samsung advertises preset quick replies when paired with Android, and Consumer Reports lists a find-phone function. The screen is too narrow for comfortable long-message reading, and TechRadar reported that notification images cannot be viewed.

Android offers more notification interaction than iPhone, especially for replying to messages. The Fit2 is not a standalone cellular device and has no modern smartwatch-style app ecosystem. It suits users who want glanceable alerts, not those expecting a small phone on the wrist. Samsung’s product page describes its activity, sleep and notification features: Galaxy Fit2 product information.
Battery life: expect less than the headline maximum
Samsung specifies a 159mAh battery and claims up to 15 days of typical use or up to 21 days in low-usage mode. Those are upper limits, not guaranteed runtimes; Samsung says battery life varies with settings, features, apps, usage patterns, network environment, charging cycles and operating conditions. In TechRadar’s mixed-use testing—with notifications enabled, brightness at half, a 45-minute workout and regular heart-rate use—the band lasted about seven days. More intensive exercise and continuous monitoring used roughly 15–20% per day in that test.
For feature-heavy use, around a week is a more realistic expectation than Samsung’s maximum. A unit released in 2020 may now have a worn battery, so even that test result cannot predict the runtime of a particular used or old-stock device. Confirm that its dedicated charging dock is included or available for the exact regional model before buying.

Phone compatibility and software are the biggest ownership uncertainties
Samsung’s legacy support listing gives requirements of Android 5.0 or later with at least 1.5GB of RAM, or iOS 10 or later on iPhone 7 or later; it also lists Samsung smartphones. Those are historical requirements, not confirmation that every 2026 phone, operating-system version or regional app configuration works. Before paying, check that the current Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health software recognizes the Fit2 on your exact phone.
During its review period, TechRadar said full functionality required Galaxy Wearable for device settings and Samsung Health for health data. App names, permissions and setup flows may have changed since then. Samsung lists Bluetooth 5.1, Bluetooth-only connectivity, FreeRTOS, 2MB RAM and 32MB storage; the band has no Wi-Fi, GPS or other location technology. It is not an app-store device, and there is no basis to count on future features, long-term firmware support or compatibility with future phones.

Samsung’s U.S. pages remain accessible, but they do not establish a dependable current price or in-stock status. Treat the Fit2 as an old-stock or used purchase unless a seller can show otherwise; its original $59 U.S. launch price is not a present-day value benchmark. If the listing approaches the price of a current tracker, skip it. Do not pay a premium just for the Samsung name. The Galaxy Watch8 is a smartwatch-class option, not a direct Fit2 replacement: Samsung’s page is Galaxy Watch8, but a proper choice requires comparing its price, battery, phone compatibility and fitness features for your needs.

Used-buying checklist
Because condition determines whether an old Fit2 is a bargain or a liability, check the actual unit and seller before purchasing:
- Battery: Ask for real runtime information, not just a claim that the band powers on. If possible, test it with your intended settings and allow for battery aging.
- Charging: Confirm the dedicated dock is included or that a replacement for the exact model and region is available.
- Pairing: Verify that your phone’s current Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health apps recognize it. Ask the seller to reset it and confirm it is not still tied to another account.
- Screen and touch: Inspect for scratches, burn-in, dead touch zones and unreliable navigation.
- Strap and case: Check the strap, clasp and case for wear, cracks, impact damage or signs the device has been opened.
- Water history: Do not rely on the rating for swimming if the unit’s age, impacts or repairs are unknown.
- Return terms: Prefer a seller who accepts returns, since appearance cannot establish battery health or water resistance.
Who should buy the Samsung Galaxy Fit2?
Buy it only if the price is clearly below newer trackers, you want a simple and light band, and basic steps, sleep trends and notifications matter more than precision. It can suit a casual user who accepts approximate workout data and roughly weekly charging, provided the specific unit pairs with their phone and has a healthy battery.
Skip it if you need GPS, accurate pace or heart-rate zones, advanced health monitoring, reliable swim use from an old unit, assured compatibility with a recent phone, or a full smartwatch experience. On those needs, the Fit2’s low weight and attractive screen do not overcome its age and limitations.
