To import bookmarks into Microsoft Edge on a computer, open Settings and more (…) > Settings > Profiles > Import browser data. Choose a listed browser, or import a bookmarks HTML file if the browser is unavailable. Imported favorites are separate from sync: to use them on another device, sign in to the intended Edge profile and turn on Favorites sync.
Import favorites directly from another browser
Edge calls saved website links Favorites; Chrome, Firefox, and other browsers often call them bookmarks. The current documented desktop route is Settings and more (…) > Settings > Profiles > Import browser data. The available source browsers and exact labels can vary by operating system, installed browsers, Edge version, profile, and organization policy. See Microsoft’s import instructions.
- Open Edge and select Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner.
- Select Settings > Profiles > Import browser data.
- Select Import beside the source browser, or use Other import locations > Import beside Import browser data now.
- In the import dialog, select Favorites or bookmarks. Select Import, then Done if it appears.
Chrome
Select Google Chrome on the Import browser data page, then choose Favorites or bookmarks. If Edge does not detect Chrome’s profile or the result looks incomplete, close Chrome and try again. If Chrome still does not appear, export its bookmarks as an HTML file and use the file-import steps below.
Firefox
Select Firefox if it appears in the source list. It may not be offered on every setup; Microsoft’s platform policy documentation lists Chrome and Firefox for Windows and macOS, but actual choices depend on the system and installed profiles. If Firefox is absent, export its bookmarks to HTML and import that file instead. See Microsoft’s ImportFavorites policy documentation.

Safari on macOS
Safari may appear as a direct source on macOS. If it does not, export Safari bookmarks as an HTML file and import that file into Edge. This desktop workflow should not be confused with Safari on iPhone or iPad: Edge’s documented import controls are primarily desktop-oriented, and a mobile Safari collection may first need to be exported or made available through a desktop browser.
Internet Explorer and other legacy sources
Internet Explorer import is a legacy, platform-constrained option, not a general route for modern devices. Microsoft’s policy documentation describes browser support by platform; do not expect Internet Explorer to appear on every Windows PC. For an unavailable source, an HTML bookmarks export is the more portable fallback.

Another Edge profile
Edge profiles keep favorites separate. Before importing, switch to the profile that should receive them; importing while one profile is selected does not place the favorites in the others. If the source profile is on another computer, use sync when available, or export its favorites to HTML and import the file on the destination computer.
Import favorites from an HTML file
An HTML bookmarks file is the practical fallback when the source browser is on a different computer, is not listed, or cannot be read by Edge. Export bookmarks or favorites from the source browser as an HTML file first. Do not use a password CSV: Edge handles passwords separately.

Microsoft says imported favorites appear in a folder on the Favorites bar; it may be named Imported. The HTML file can preserve folder hierarchy, but do not assume every import will merge neatly with existing folders. Repeating an import may create duplicate folders or links, and Edge may not deduplicate URLs as expected. The documented file workflow is described in Microsoft’s import guide.
Find the imported favorites
First check the Favorites bar for a folder named Imported, then open the Favorites menu to browse the full list. If the bar is hidden, open Edge’s appearance settings and show the Favorites bar; hidden does not mean the import failed. Also verify that you are viewing the Edge profile you selected when importing, since each profile has its own favorites.

Sync favorites to another device
Importing adds favorites to the selected local Edge profile; it does not by itself guarantee they appear on another device. For cross-device access, sign in to the intended Edge profile with the same Microsoft account and enable Favorites sync.
- On the device with the imported favorites, open the correct Edge profile and sign in.
- Go to Settings and more (…) > Settings > Profiles > Sync.
- Turn on Favorites.
- On the other computer or mobile device, sign in to Edge with the same account and profile, and confirm Favorites sync is on.
Microsoft lets users toggle sync categories individually; favorites may not appear if the account, profile, or Favorites setting differs between devices. Sync can also propagate changes such as deletions, so keep an HTML backup before making a major migration if you may need to restore the original set. See Microsoft’s sync settings guide and instructions for syncing Edge across devices.

Use imported favorites in Edge on a phone or tablet
The dependable documented route is to import favorites into Edge on a Windows or macOS computer, then sign in to the Edge mobile app with the same Microsoft account and enable Favorites sync. The ImportFavorites administrative policy is listed as unsupported on Android and iOS, which does not establish that every mobile import capability is impossible; it does mean the desktop procedure should not be assumed to exist in the mobile app. See Microsoft’s platform policy details.
Fix common import problems
The source browser is missing
- Confirm the browser is installed and has a profile that Edge can read.
- Close the source browser and retry.
- Check the intended Edge profile and look under Profiles > Import browser data, not only on the Favorites page.
- Export bookmarks as HTML from the source browser and use the file route if direct import remains unavailable.
The Import control is missing or disabled
Update Edge and restart it, then check whether the computer is managed by an employer or school. Administrators can disable favorite imports or restrict changes to favorites. If controls are locked, contact the organization’s administrator rather than trying to bypass its policy. Microsoft documents the ImportFavorites policy and related Windows browser policy settings.
The import seems to have worked, but favorites are missing
- Check the Imported folder on the Favorites bar and the Favorites menu.
- Switch to the Edge profile used for the import.
- Show the Favorites bar if you expected to see it there.
- If favorites were expected from another device, verify the same account and profile are signed in and Favorites sync is enabled on both.
Edge rejects the file or the list is incomplete
Confirm the selected file is an exported bookmarks/favorites HTML file, not a password CSV or another export format. If the file is correct but the expected folders or links are absent, create a fresh HTML export from the source browser and retry. Keep the original export until you have checked the imported list.
There are duplicates
A repeated import can add another folder or copy links rather than merge them cleanly. Check the Favorites menu before importing again; if duplicates are present, remove the unwanted entries in the correct Edge profile and avoid repeating the import unless necessary.
Sync has not appeared yet
Check connectivity, the account and Edge profile on each device, and the Favorites toggle under Settings > Profiles > Sync. If the favorites remain unavailable, confirm the import actually landed in the profile that is signed in for sync. Microsoft’s privacy information explains that import is initially local; data may be sent to Microsoft after sign-in and sync is enabled, or when a relevant personalization setting is enabled. See Microsoft Edge privacy information.
