Motorola EX119 Dual SIM: Specifications, Network Support and 2026 Buying Advice

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Motorola EX119 is a 2011 dual-SIM GSM feature phone, not an Android smartphone. Its unusual design combines a 2.4-inch capacitive touchscreen with a physical QWERTY keyboard, plus Wi‑Fi, FM radio, Bluetooth and a 3-megapixel rear camera. In 2026 it is mainly a collector or retro handset: it can make calls only where a compatible 2G GSM network still accepts legacy devices, and it has no 3G, 4G LTE, VoLTE or 5G.

What is the Motorola EX119?

Motorola launched the EX119 in India in August 2011 as part of a three-phone dual-SIM feature-phone range. Contemporary launch reports list an announced price of ₹6,190. The phone was marketed under several closely related names, including Motorola EX119 Dual SIM, MOTOKEY XT EX119, XT EX119 Dual Chip and Brea EX119. The EX119 is the dual-SIM counterpart to the single-SIM EX118; FCC documentation identifies both configurations under FCC ID IHDT56MK2 (FCC filing).

It uses Motorola’s proprietary feature-phone software. The “XT” in its name does not make it an Android phone, and it should not be confused with later Motorola Android models.

The launch combination was distinctive: a touchscreen for menus and a hardware QWERTY keyboard for messaging, together with dual-SIM convenience. Motorola also promoted Facebook and Twitter widgets, Wi‑Fi and IMAP idle push email at the time (Indian Express; Digit).

Motorola EX119 specifications

The following table combines the most consistent descriptions from contemporary coverage, FCC material and specification databases. Some regional listings disagree on battery construction, SIM format and display orientation, so verify the individual handset.

Launch August 2011; Indian launch reports give ₹6,190

Cellular radio 2G GSM only; commonly listed bands 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

Rear camera Approximately 3 MP (often written 3 or 3.15 MP), generally fixed-focus and without flash

Reference specifications: Gadgets 360, PhoneMore, Sysphones and India Today.

How the dual-SIM system works

The EX119 is a GSM/GSM dual-standby phone. Both SIMs can normally remain registered for calls and texts, but they are not two independent LTE or VoLTE connections. When a call is active on one SIM, the other may be unavailable until that call ends.

  • Both numbers require a still-operating GSM network.
  • Dual-SIM support does not add 3G, LTE, VoLTE or 5G.
  • Documentation alternates between “regular” SIM and mini-SIM/2FF. Confirm the slot and use an adapter only when appropriate; do not cut a current SIM blindly.
  • A card can fit physically while the carrier rejects registration because of radio, account or network-policy restrictions.

Will the EX119 work in 2026?

Only conditionally. The handset has 2G GSM and GPRS/EDGE radios and lacks UMTS/HSPA, LTE, VoLTE, 5G and Wi‑Fi calling (technical listing). The listed 850/900/1800/1900 MHz bands describe what the radio can receive; they do not prove that a carrier still operates those services or permits this device.

United States

Do not buy it for dependable U.S. service based on an “unlocked” label or a quad-band claim. Ask the intended carrier or MVNO, in writing, whether it still accepts a 2G-only GSM handset at the exact location and on the intended plan. Motorola’s current compatibility tool is aimed at current devices and does not establish EX119 support (Motorola compatibility tool). Without independent confirmation, treat a U.S. EX119 as a collector, nostalgia device or emergency spare only—not a daily phone.

Outside the United States

International use depends on four separate checks: the country must retain 2G GSM, the operator must permit legacy registration, its bands must match the handset, and the SIM/account must be provisioned for that service. Roaming and emergency-calling support for a non-VoLTE phone can also differ. There is no safe “works worldwide” guarantee.

What remains useful

  • The physical QWERTY keyboard offers tactile typing that modern touchscreen phones do not.
  • Calls, SMS, contacts, alarms, calendar and notes can work on a compatible network.
  • FM radio, offline music, microSD storage and a 3.5-mm jack suit simple offline use.
  • Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth may connect to suitable older equipment, although modern security and accessory compatibility can be limited.

What is obsolete

  • GPRS/EDGE data is unsuitable for modern browsing, streaming or large downloads.
  • The historical Facebook, Twitter and push-email features do not guarantee access to today’s services, certificates or websites.
  • There is no app-store ecosystem comparable to Android, no GPS navigation, no NFC payments and no contemporary security-update path.
  • It is unsuitable for banking, secure web use, high-volume data or dependable emergency communications.

Battery and aging-hardware risks

The commonly quoted 910 mAh capacity is a nominal specification, not a runtime promise. A 2011 handset may have a degraded or swollen original cell, a low-quality replacement, corroded contacts or a failing micro-USB port. “New old stock” means long-stored hardware, not a newly manufactured phone.

  • Reject any battery that is swollen, leaking or preventing the cover from closing.
  • Ask whether the battery is original, replaced or untested.
  • Do not leave an old lithium battery charging unattended.
  • Check photographs for the exact regional battery compartment because sources disagree about removability.

Used-buying inspection checklist

  1. Confirm the rear label says EX119, not EX118 or EX109.
  2. Ask for photographs of both SIM slots and the required physical SIM format.
  3. Ask which country and carrier last tested the phone, and request proof that both slots accept another operator’s SIM.
  4. Verify that it boots, charges and stays powered on; ensure the cable does not need to be held at an angle.
  5. Test every touchscreen area and every QWERTY key, especially space, shift, delete, navigation and number keys.
  6. Inspect the display for cracks, dead pixels, yellowing and pressure marks.
  7. Open the camera and save a photograph to internal storage or microSD.
  8. Test earpiece, loudspeaker, microphone, FM radio and the 3.5-mm jack.
  9. Test Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth only if you need them; old encryption and profiles may not work with current equipment.
  10. Confirm the battery, back cover, charger and return terms. Avoid no-return listings unless the purchase is strictly for display.

Price and availability

The official historical reference is the ₹6,190 Indian launch price reported in August 2011. A Gadgets 360 database page showed ₹5,499 on July 17, 2026, but marked the phone unavailable; that is a third-party database signal, not a current Motorola retail price (Gadgets 360).

An observed boxed eBay listing asked US$59.99 plus US$14 international shipping, but its item specifics incorrectly identified the brand as Nokia and included mismatched specifications. Treat marketplace titles and metadata as unverified; rely on the handset label, photographs, seller testing and return policy (example listing). Search categories such as eBay’s legacy Motorola listings vary widely in condition, lock status, battery safety and model accuracy.

There is no stable 2026 market value. Packaging, battery condition, regional version, testing, shipping and import costs can matter more than the original specifications. For accessories, demand exact battery-model photographs and a return policy rather than trusting a generic “fits Motorola” description.

Who should buy it?

  • Good fit: collectors, retro-phone enthusiasts, QWERTY fans and users who have independently verified a compatible 2G network.
  • Poor fit: anyone seeking a smartphone replacement, modern apps, secure browsing, navigation, mobile payments, reliable emergency service or normal U.S. daily use without carrier confirmation.

For everyday service, choose a current LTE/VoLTE or 5G phone and verify it with Motorola’s official compatibility page. The EX119 is interesting precisely because of its touchscreen-and-keyboard design, but that historical appeal does not overcome its 2G-only radio and aging hardware.

Is the battery definitely removable?
