Yes: Claro Brasil received Ookla’s Speedtest Award for Fastest 5G Network in Brazil and Latin America for Q3–Q4 2023. That is a dated result, not proof that Claro is the fastest everywhere today. In a later award covering Q3–Q4 2024, Ookla recognized Claro as the fastest 5G network in South America; the available results do not establish a definitive Latin America-wide winner for 2026.
What Ookla recognized
The original claim refers to Claro Brasil’s Speedtest Award for Fastest 5G Network in Brazil and Latin America, based on Q3–Q4 2023 results. The award announcement described it as Claro’s third consecutive win for fastest 5G in Brazil. The 2023 award report is the source for that specific geography and period.
A subsequent award used a different regional label. For Q3–Q4 2024, Ookla recognized Claro as the fastest 5G network in South America for the second consecutive year. South America and Latin America are not interchangeable labels, so this later result should not be recast as a new Latin America-wide award. Ookla’s announcement identifies the 2024 award period and results.
How Claro compared with Vivo and TIM
Teletime’s report of Ookla’s Q3–Q4 2024 results gives the following comparison for Brazil. The figures are reported period results, not minimum speeds promised to subscribers.

| Reported 5G result | Claro | Vivo | TIM |
|---|---|---|---|
| Median download speed | 483 Mbps | 422 Mbps | 394 Mbps |
| Median upload speed | 37 Mbps | 27 Mbps | 26 Mbps |
| Reported maximum download | 794 Mbps | 766 Mbps | 725 Mbps |
Teletime’s account reports the comparison above. Ookla’s award announcement gives Claro a median 5G download speed of 483.82 Mbps and median upload speed of 34.44 Mbps for the same award period. The upload figures differ between the two sources; they should not be treated as an exact reconciled value. Ookla also reports a Speed Score of 394.18. These are consumer-initiated Speedtest measurements, not a forecast for an individual connection.
A median describes the midpoint of measured results: half of the measurements were higher and half lower. A reported maximum is an unusually high observed result, not a typical session. Neither number establishes coverage, reliability, or performance on every phone and in every location.

What “fastest” means in a Speedtest Award
Ookla’s Speedtest Awards use measurements from people running Speedtest rather than a controlled laboratory test of every cell site. Its Speed Score methodology combines download, upload and latency-related performance to classify network speed; a description of that approach appears in Claro Guatemala’s award explanation. The award is a comparison of measured network performance over a defined period, not a guarantee or a single peak-speed contest.
- Download and upload: Download affects activities such as loading content and receiving files; upload matters for sending files, live video and video calls.
- Speed and coverage: A high speed result does not show how much territory has service or whether signal reaches a particular home or rural road.
- Speed and reliability: The award does not, by itself, settle how consistent service is in a particular place or how often connections drop.
- 5G and all mobile technology: These results are 5G-specific and should not be generalized to all of Claro’s mobile service or to fixed broadband.
Ookla’s separate announcement also associated Claro Brasil with awards for Best 5G Gaming Experience and Best 5G Video Experience. Those are distinct categories, not evidence that Claro leads every measure of mobile service. Ookla’s post lists those recognitions.

Why your Claro 5G speed may differ
A regional or national award cannot predict the result in one room, street or commute. Claro’s published service terms say access depends on availability, coverage and device, and that performance may vary with signal conditions, structures, distance from the radio base station and simultaneous users. See Claro’s service terms.
- Place and signal: A location outside Claro’s 5G coverage, a weak signal, distance from a cell site or indoor walls can reduce performance. An outdoor result may not carry over indoors.
- Phone and plan: The handset needs support for the relevant Brazilian 5G bands, and device provisioning or plan eligibility may affect access. Modem quality and thermal limits also vary between phones.
- Network and congestion: Results can depend on local demand, backhaul and whether the connection uses 5G NSA, DSS or standalone 5G. A 5G icon alone does not identify the architecture or guarantee a particular speed.
- Test conditions: The test server, time of day and number of simultaneous users can change the measured result.
Claro currently advertises “the fastest 5G in Brazil” on its product page. That is the operator’s marketing claim; the Ookla awards are dated independent measurements and should be evaluated on their stated periods and geographies.

How to check whether Claro is faster where you use your phone
- Confirm that the phone shows a 5G connection and check that its specifications support the relevant Brazilian 5G bands.
- Run tests in the places that matter, including outdoors and indoors at home or work.
- Repeat tests at different times of day, using the same location and comparable conditions when comparing Claro with Vivo or TIM.
- Record download, upload and latency rather than judging the connection by download alone.
- Relate the results to your actual use, such as video calls, streaming or gaming; do not make a decision based on one unusually high or low test.
Your own Speedtest results can help compare local service, but they cannot establish an operator’s national or regional ranking.
Should you switch to Claro?
The awards are useful evidence that Claro delivered strong measured 5G performance during the cited periods. They are not enough on their own to justify a switch. Check coverage where you live, work and travel; confirm your phone and plan can use Claro 5G; and compare local results with the price and data allowance you would actually pay for. If coverage or reliable service matters more than peak throughput, prioritize those local conditions over a regional speed award.
