What do the UltraSharp U2725QE and U3225QE offer?
Both UltraSharp monitors pair 4K resolution with enhanced IPS Black, a 120Hz refresh rate and a Thunderbolt 4 hub. Dell specifies a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, 100% sRGB and BT.709 coverage, 99% Display P3/DCI-P3 coverage, and average Delta E below 1.5. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.
#1 Best Overall
- 4K UHD IPS Black Display with Factory Calibration: 3840 x 2160 resolution and 99% DCI-P3 color coverage calibrated to Delta E less than 1.5 for professional color accuracy.
- 120Hz Refresh Rate and 5ms Response Time: Smooth, fluid motion with reduced blur for fast-paced workflows and seamless multitasking across multiple applications.
- Thunderbolt 4 Single Cable Solution: Transmits video, data, and up to 140W power simultaneously, with daisy chain support for up to two additional 4K monitors.
- ComfortView Plus and Ambient Light Sensor: Reduces harmful blue light for less eye strain during long sessions; auto brightness adjustment keeps the screen comfortable all day.
- Full Ergonomic Adjustability and Rich Port Selection: Height, tilt, swivel, and pivot adjustments plus HDMI 2.1, USB-C, USB-A, and Ethernet ports for a versatile, personalized setup.
IPS Black, 4K and 120Hz
The IPS Black panel is designed to provide higher native contrast than conventional IPS while retaining the viewing-angle characteristics associated with IPS. A 3,000:1 specification is an improvement over typical IPS figures, but it does not make these monitors equivalent to OLED for black levels or perceived contrast.
At 3,840 × 2,160, both displays offer the same pixel count. The 27-inch U2725QE uses that resolution on a smaller screen, while the 31.5-inch U3225QE provides more physical workspace. Both run at up to 120Hz, which can make scrolling and pointer movement feel smoother than on a 60Hz monitor; achieving that mode depends on the connected computer and connection.
U2725QE: a compact 4K workstation
The U2725QE makes more sense when desk space is limited or a smaller physical screen is preferred. It retains the core UltraSharp features—4K, 120Hz, IPS Black, Thunderbolt 4 docking, Ethernet and KVM—without moving up to the larger 31.5-inch display.
Rank #2
- Improved ComfortView Plus: Reduces harmful blue light emissions to ≤35%, for all-day comfort without sacrificing color accuracy.
- Refresh rate: A smooth, tear-free experience with AMD FreeSync Premium (refresh rate up to 120Hz) and an ultra-low 0.03ms response time create a captivating experience for work and play.
- Vivid colors: Immerse yourself in breathtaking 4K visuals with in-plane switching technology. Enjoy vibrant colors with 99% sRGB. The 1500:1 contrast ratio and HDR readiness deliver excellent depth and detail.
- Re-engineered sound quality: Enjoy more detailed sound with spacious audio featuring greater output power, deeper frequency response and more decibel range than the previous generation.
- Ultra-thin bezel: Designed with a sleek, modern aesthetic and an ash white finish, this display features ultra-thin bezels for a refined, minimalist design.
U3225QE: a larger canvas with an HDR rating
The U3225QE offers more room for side-by-side documents, timelines, code and windows. Dell lists VESA DisplayHDR 600, up to 600 cd/m² for HDR operation and 450 cd/m² standard brightness. Those ratings describe specified capabilities; they do not establish real-world HDR performance or make the display an OLED substitute.

Can an UltraSharp monitor replace a laptop dock?
The U2725QE and U3225QE are designed to consolidate display, charging and peripheral connections. Their listed features include a Thunderbolt 4 upstream connection, Thunderbolt downstream, 2.5GbE Ethernet, USB-A and USB-C 10Gbps ports, DisplayPort, HDMI and KVM support. Dell specifies up to 140W EPR power delivery. The U3225QE’s HDMI input is listed as supporting up to 4K at 120Hz.

- IMMERSIVE VISUALS - Experience stunning clarity on the 32" 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) LED display, bringing your content to life with incredible detail and vibrant colors for enhanced productivity.
- SEAMLESS CONNECTIVITY - Benefit from the integrated Thunderbolt hub, offering versatile connectivity options for peripherals and devices, streamlining your workspace and boosting efficiency.
- ENHANCED PRODUCTIVITY - Maximize your workflow with the expansive 32-inch screen size, providing ample screen real estate for multitasking and detailed work, reducing the need for multiple monitors.
- SUPERIOR IMAGE QUALITY - Enjoy exceptional visual performance with the high-resolution display, ensuring crisp text and sharp images for comfortable viewing during extended work sessions or entertainment.
- SLEEK AND MODERN DESIGN - Elevate your workspace aesthetic with the Dell UltraSharp monitor's stylish design, featuring a slim bezel and premium finish that complements any professional environment.
In a typical setup, connect the laptop to the monitor’s Thunderbolt 4 upstream port, then attach Ethernet, keyboard, mouse and other peripherals to the monitor. The laptop can receive power through that connection, and KVM functionality can let compatible peripherals switch between two connected computers. DisplayPort output can support a daisy-chained display, subject to the computer’s capabilities and the required resolution and refresh rate.
Check the laptop and cable before relying on the hub
- Video over USB-C: A USB-C-shaped port does not necessarily support video. Confirm the laptop supports Thunderbolt, USB4 or DisplayPort Alt Mode as required.
- Charging: 140W is the monitor’s maximum stated EPR delivery, not a promise that every laptop will accept 140W. The laptop, cable, firmware and charging profile determine actual power.
- 120Hz output: The source device, graphics hardware, operating system, driver and cable must all support the desired 4K/120Hz mode. The monitor’s HDMI capability alone cannot guarantee it.
- Daisy chaining and KVM: Supported display modes and switching behavior can vary by computer, operating system and connection. Check the laptop manufacturer’s port specifications and the monitor manual.
- Cable choice: Use a certified Thunderbolt or full-featured USB-C cable rated for the video, data and charging needs of the setup; a charge-only cable may not carry video or Thunderbolt data.

The S3225QC swaps the UltraSharp pair’s IPS Black and docking emphasis for a 32-inch 4K QD-OLED panel. OLED’s individually lit pixels can produce much deeper blacks and stronger perceived contrast than IPS, making QD-OLED especially appealing for games and video. Dell’s launch material lists a 0.03ms response time; it does not establish the measurement method, so treat that number as Dell’s stated specification rather than a directly comparable independent test.

- Vivid colors: Immerse yourself in 4K visuals with a VA panel. Enjoy true-to-life colors with 99% sRGB and 95% DCI-P3 coverage. The 1500:1 contrast ratio and HDR readiness deliver excellent depth and detail.

Dell also described the S3225QC as the world’s first QD-OLED monitor with AI-enhanced 3D Spatial Sound, including head tracking and adaptive sound delivery. That “world’s first” status and the audio behavior are Dell claims, not independently established findings here. The cited launch material does not provide a complete specification set for refresh rate, brightness, ports, HDR certification or warranty coverage.
What the panel choice means for daily use
- QD-OLED favors immersion: Deep blacks, vivid color and fast response are strong attractions for gaming and movies.
- Static work deserves more caution: Taskbars, spreadsheets, browser controls and other fixed interface elements displayed for long periods make OLED-care features and burn-in coverage important questions. Check the regional manual and warranty terms before buying.
- IPS Black favors office routines: The UltraSharp models are the more straightforward choice for long sessions with static desktop content, while still offering better specified contrast than ordinary IPS.
- Neither panel choice removes the need to check fit: Room brightness, reflections, workflow and personal preference affect how a display works on a real desk.
The S3225QC is therefore an alternative for entertainment-heavy mixed use, not simply a larger or more feature-rich replacement for the UltraSharp hub monitors.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which Dell monitor is the better fit?
- Choose the U2725QE for a compact desk, 4K sharpness, 120Hz and a Thunderbolt hub without the larger screen footprint.
- Choose the U3225QE for a more expansive single-screen workspace, integrated Ethernet and USB connectivity, and Dell’s DisplayHDR 600 listing while staying with IPS for static productivity work.
- Consider the S3225QC when games and video matter as much as work, OLED contrast is the priority, and you are prepared to check burn-in protections and warranty terms.
The UltraSharp models are harder to justify if you do not need Thunderbolt docking, Ethernet or KVM; a less expensive 4K display may suit that buyer. Likewise, look elsewhere if you need an ultrawide format, reference-grade color workflow or a gaming refresh rate above 120Hz. Laptop owners should confirm their computer can use the monitor’s connectivity and charging features before paying for them.
