Model MTN-NX1M received Global Certification Forum (GCF) approval on September 17, 2025, indicating 5G and cellular-network validation. A later EMVCo record pointed to NFC and payment-related certification. HONOR subsequently listed the phone for UK sale on January 8, 2026, so it is now a launched product in at least some markets.
What the GCF certification established
A GCF listing reported in October 2025 identified the device as the HONOR Magic8 Lite 5G, model MTN-NX1M. It carried GCF reference 13250 and an approval date of September 17, 2025. The listing included supported cellular bands and indicated that the phone had progressed through formal 5G interoperability testing rather than remaining a retailer rumor.
GCF certification is a network-compatibility milestone, not a generic government approval. It does not establish a universal launch date, final price, camera performance, software-support period, US availability, or identical band support in every country. The bands shown in a certification record also do not guarantee compatibility with every carrier.
The GCF listing and reported band details provide the early evidence.

What the EMVCo listing added
A separate report identified an EMVCo approval for the same MTN-NX1M model, approval number MTA_LOA_HODC_05735. The record was associated with Android 15 information and NFC support.
EMVCo certification concerns payment and contactless implementations, so it answers a different question from GCF testing. It suggests that the relevant NFC hardware and software implementation had completed an approval process. It does not promise that every bank, wallet, carrier, firmware version, or payment service will work in every market.
Read the reported EMVCo details for the approval reference and Android information.

HONOR’s UK buying guide lists January 8, 2026, while a company announcement distributed through Europa Press described a Spanish launch on February 4, 2026. Those dates should not be treated as one worldwide release date.

The later retail information is more authoritative for specifications than early certification sightings. HONOR’s UK pages list the following:
- Display: 6.79-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel with adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. HONOR advertises up to 6,000 nits on the product page; that is a specified peak figure, not sustained full-screen brightness.
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, positioning the phone in the mid-range rather than flagship class.
- Battery and charging: 7,500mAh silicon-carbon battery and 66W HONOR SuperCharge. Reverse charging is also advertised in the UK buying guide.
- Cameras: 108MP main camera with optical image stabilization and a 5MP ultrawide camera.
- Software: MagicOS 10.0 on the UK buying guide.
- Storage: 256GB and 512GB configurations.
- Colours: Reddish Brown, Forest Green and Midnight Black on the UK product page.
- Durability: HONOR claims 2.5-metre drop resistance and IP68/IP69K ratings.
See HONOR’s product page, technical specifications and buying guide. The UK guide gives a launch price of £399.99; a later buying-page promotion showed £329.99 with a discount code, which should be treated as a time-limited UK offer rather than a standard global price.

Why HONOR’s conformity report matters
HONOR-hosted documentation names Honor Device Co., Ltd. as manufacturer, identifies the product as HONOR Magic8 Lite, confirms model MTN-NX1M and gives a September 29, 2025 report date. The document concerns EN 301 549 accessibility requirements.
This independently ties the certification model number to the commercial product. It is an accessibility conformity report, however, not proof that the phone met every radio, safety or market-approval requirement worldwide. The report is available as a HONOR PDF.
What the certifications mean for buyers
They make the launch more credible
The repeated MTN-NX1M identifier across GCF, EMVCo and HONOR documentation forms a consistent evidence chain. GCF made the 5G claim more credible, while EMVCo suggested that NFC/contactless functions were being prepared.

They do not prove carrier or wallet compatibility
Check the exact regional model, LTE and 5G bands, VoLTE support and warranty before importing one. NFC hardware does not guarantee compatibility with a particular bank or wallet. Firmware, service certification and local payment support still matter.
Durability claims have conditions
IP68/IP69K ratings are laboratory classifications, not permission for deliberate underwater use. HONOR says protection can decline through normal wear. The 2.5-metre drop claim applies to specified tests, surfaces and conditions, not every real-world fall.
Battery and brightness numbers are not universal experience
HONOR’s “up to three days” battery language is a manufacturer estimate dependent on usage. Likewise, 6,000 nits is a peak or specified test value, not the brightness users will continuously see across the whole screen.

HONOR Magic8 Lite versus Magic7 Lite
The previous-generation Magic7 Lite remains the closest first-party alternative. HONOR’s comparison lists a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and 6,600mAh battery for that model, versus Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 and 7,500mAh for the Magic8 Lite. The newer phone is the stronger choice when the extra capacity, newer chipset and updated protection justify its price. The Magic7 Lite only becomes compelling when sold at a substantial discount.
Certification and durability features do not automatically mean better camera processing, flagship gaming performance or longer software support. Buyers focused on those areas should compare higher-tier phones in their own market rather than assume the Magic8 Lite is a flagship substitute.
Bottom line
The September 17, 2025 GCF approval and subsequent EMVCo record were meaningful signs that HONOR’s MTN-NX1M was moving toward a real commercial release. They did not announce the launch or settle every specification. HONOR’s UK listing later confirmed a January 8, 2026 release at £399.99, while other markets followed on different dates. Treat the certifications as evidence of network and payment readiness, then verify regional bands, wallet support, pricing and warranty before buying.
