Short answer: the AYN dual-screen handheld is the AYN Thor, not the single-screen Odin 3. Choose the Odin 3 for the simplest, strongest all-round Android gaming experience; choose the Thor for a lower-cost physical dual-screen layout; and choose the AYANEO Pocket DS for the most ambitious screen arrangement, with a 7-inch OLED above a 5-inch 4:3 display. For Nintendo DS and 3DS, the best choice depends more on touch controls, screen size and hinge ergonomics than on processor names.
What the three handhelds actually are
The naming is easy to mix up. AYN’s Thor is its dual-screen clamshell. The Odin 3 is a conventional single-screen handheld with a 6-inch AMOLED panel. AYANEO’s Pocket DS is a separate premium dual-screen competitor.
This is therefore not simply a chipset contest. It is a choice between a straightforward landscape handheld and two devices that add a second display, hinge and associated software complexity.

#1 Best Overall
- NO PRELOAD GAMES - Please note that no games are preloaded on Retroid Pocket 5. Before first use or after a long period of inactivity, the RP5 may enter battery protection mode. The short answer for different buyers
- Best overall performance and simplest experience: AYN Odin 3.
- Best value dual-screen option: AYN Thor, if its exact RAM/storage version and smaller screens fit your needs.
- Best dual-screen display proposition: AYANEO Pocket DS, thanks to its large 7-inch OLED and 5-inch 4:3 lower screen.
- Best for ordinary Android games, cloud gaming and remote play: Odin 3.
- Best for DS/3DS: Thor or Pocket DS, selected according to touch comfort, screen proportions, hinge angle and emulator controls rather than advertised processor speed.
AYN Thor: the dual-screen value challenger
AYN’s Thor is the product that answers the phrase “AYN dual-screen handheld.” AYN lists a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Android 13, a 6-inch AMOLED display and a 6,000mAh battery. Android Central reported an approximate 380g weight.
The appeal is practical: a clamshell can keep both game views visible while protecting the screens when closed, and AYN lists a lower starting price than the Odin 3. That $259 figure is a starting price, not a like-for-like comparison with every Odin 3 configuration. Confirm memory, storage, display details, batch, warranty and shipping at checkout.
A Thor stylus, case, shell and screen protectors are listed in AYN’s accessories collection. A stylus is useful for touch-heavy DS and 3DS software, but it does not guarantee identical behavior across emulators.
AYN Odin 3: the rational single-screen choice
The Odin 3 has one 6-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, Android 15, an 8,000mAh battery and a listed weight of 390g. AYN lists four memory/storage combinations, from 8GB/128GB to 24GB/1TB. Extra RAM is not automatically valuable for retro emulation; storage capacity is more relevant if you maintain a large, legally obtained library.

Equipped with 16.7 million-color RGB lighting, the MANGMI AIR X handheld console offers three adjustable modes: Constantly Bright, Breath, Rainbow, with customizable brightness and hue settings.
Its single-screen design removes hinge wear, second-display management and layout decisions. Landscape Android games, streaming services, remote play and most conventional emulators use the whole panel without an unused lower screen. The trade-off is fundamental: software can stack or swap DS screens, but it cannot reproduce two physically separated displays.
The current product page identifies Batch 8 as a preorder and describes estimated shipping rather than guaranteed immediate delivery. AYN states a one-year warranty; return shipping, dead-pixel treatment, international service and battery coverage should be checked separately.
AYANEO Pocket DS: the premium screen-first option
AYANEO’s Pocket DS pairs a 7-inch 1920×1080 16:9 OLED main display, rated up to 165Hz, with a 5-inch 4:3 LCD secondary screen. AYANEO describes software for managing dual-screen interaction, a Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 platform, PC-style cooling and a 15W peak TDP; its product material lists up to 16GB LPDDR5X memory.
The 7-inch OLED is the most appealing of the three for large Android games, streaming and single-screen emulation. The 5-inch 4:3 panel is naturally shaped for a DS-style second view and wastes less space than placing a 4:3 image on a wide display. It is still an LCD, not a second OLED, so brightness, contrast and viewing angles may differ.

AYANEO promoted the device as the “world’s first dual-screen Android handheld”; that is the company’s marketing description. Current retail price and stock are not established by the cited launch pages. A reported $399 starting point was early-bird campaign pricing for an 8GB/128GB model, not a guaranteed August 2026 store price.
DS and 3DS emulation: what matters in practice
Physical dual screens solve the biggest visual compromise of DS and 3DS emulation, but they do not automatically make the experience perfect.
Screen layout
A 4:3 lower display gives the Pocket DS a strong layout advantage for DS-style software. The Thor may feel more 3DS-like if its two panels are closer in size, but detailed Thor display specifications should be confirmed before purchase. Check whether your emulator supports gap adjustment, screen rotation, per-game layouts and rapid screen swapping.
Touch and stylus input
Games that use maps, inventories or occasional taps are easier to tolerate than titles requiring constant touch input. Test whether the hinge leaves the lower screen visible while your thumbs remain on the controls, and whether a finger or stylus can reach the entire panel without moving the device.

Hinge and viewing angle
The useful question is not simply whether both screens open. They must remain visible at a comfortable angle on your lap or a table, with a hinge that does not wobble. A clamshell protects panels when closed but introduces hinge wear and a larger closed package.
Legal game software
A dual-screen handheld does not include legal copies of Nintendo games. Use game software you own and follow applicable laws; the hardware comparison does not change those requirements.
Performance and demanding emulation
The Odin 3’s Dragonwing Q8, Thor’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Pocket DS’s Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 are useful platform descriptions, not universal performance rankings. Actual results depend on emulator version, Vulkan drivers, operating-system support, per-game profiles, cooling and sustained power limits.
- PS2 and GameCube performance can vary substantially by title and emulator settings.
- Wii and Switch compatibility should be treated as experimentation, not a guaranteed feature.
- Two active displays may increase power draw, but endurance and thermal impact require measurements.
- Later AYN batches have been reported by the community as moving from UFS 4.0 to UFS 3.1; verify the storage type for your exact order rather than assuming all units match. See the community batch report.
Android games, streaming and remote play
The Odin 3 is the least compromised for conventional Android software: one uninterrupted landscape screen, no second-panel configuration and no unused display during games that do not support it. It is also the simpler shape for cloud gaming and remote play.

The Pocket DS can make streaming especially attractive because of its 7-inch OLED, while the Thor and Pocket DS can use a second panel for maps, controls or chat only when software supports that arrangement. For many Android games, the lower screen becomes extra weight and battery demand rather than a benefit.
Portability and ergonomics
Do not interpret “handheld” as jeans-pocket size. Dual-screen devices are generally better suited to a bag or large coat pocket. Closed dimensions for the Thor and Pocket DS, grip depth, trigger placement, hinge stability and one-handed opening should be checked in independent reviews before purchase.
The Odin 3 is listed at 390g. Thor’s approximately 380g figure comes from secondary reporting, not a complete official specification sheet. A clamshell protects the displays in transit, but the hinge adds a potential failure point and can make charging or playing on a lap less convenient. Heat near the grips, fan noise and sustained comfort after an hour require hands-on measurements.
Battery and charging
| Device | Published capacity | What the number does not tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Odin 3 | 8,000mAh | Actual runtime depends on emulator load, brightness, refresh rate and performance mode. |
| Thor | 6,000mAh | Two displays and dual-screen software can change consumption; independent endurance data is needed. |
| Pocket DS | 8,000mAh | The OLED, LCD, 165Hz mode and 15W platform setting can produce very different runtimes. |
Battery capacity is not battery life. Confirm charging speed, charger inclusion and charging behavior while playing from the vendor or independent testing.

Odin 3’s listed Android 15 is newer than the Thor storefront’s Android 13, but a newer Android version does not by itself prove faster or more compatible emulation. The important checks are launcher quality, button mapping, per-game profiles, screen management, firmware updates and community documentation.
Before ordering either clamshell, verify the return process, international shipping responsibility, dead-pixel policy, hinge coverage, battery warranty and replacement-part availability. Treat batch or campaign fulfillment separately from in-stock retail.

Choose the Odin 3 when
- You mainly play conventional Android games, streaming services or single-screen emulators.
- You want a large battery, current listed Android software and the least complicated setup.
- A physical second screen would be an occasional novelty rather than the reason for buying.
Choose the Thor when
- You specifically want an AYN dual-screen clamshell.
- A smaller, more 3DS-like arrangement and lower starting price matter.
- You are willing to verify the exact configuration, batch, storage revision and warranty terms.
Choose the Pocket DS when
- The second screen is central to your purchase.
- You want the largest upper OLED and a dedicated 4:3 lower display.
- You accept a likely larger device and must confirm current price, stock and support.
