Yes, the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition is real. Microsoft and Meta launched it on June 24, 2025, at a U.S. price of $399.99. It is a limited-edition 128GB Meta Quest 3S bundle with Xbox styling, an Xbox Wireless Controller, an Elite Strap and subscription trials—not a new Xbox VR console or a more powerful Quest headset.
Xbox described the quantities as “extremely limited.” The launch announcement listed Meta, Best Buy in the United States, and Argos and EE in the United Kingdom; that historical availability should not be treated as proof of stock in 2026.

What the Xbox Edition is—and is not
This product is a themed Quest 3S bundle created through the Microsoft and Meta partnership. The Xbox Edition appears to use the standard Quest 3S hardware platform. There is no announced upgrade to its processor, display, lenses, cameras, memory, storage or battery.

- It is: a standalone Meta mixed-reality headset with Xbox-branded colors and bundled accessories.

Xbox games are primarily accessed through Xbox Cloud Gaming on a large virtual 2D screen. Native Quest VR games remain separate applications.
Launch price and availability
Original U.S. price
The launch MSRP was $399.99 in the United States. That was $100 above the original $299.99 launch price of the regular 128GB Quest 3S, reflecting the accessories, subscription promotions and limited-edition design rather than faster hardware. Meta’s original Quest 3S announcement is at about.fb.com.
What “available” means now
Xbox said the bundle went on sale June 24, 2025 in limited quantities and called those quantities “extremely limited.” A later update continued to point shoppers to Best Buy, Argos and EE without confirming broad restocking. Do not assume $399.99 is a current retail or resale price: a listing may be unavailable, marked up, missing subscription codes or sold without the original warranty.

How Xbox gaming works on Quest
- Set up the headset with a Meta account using the Quest mobile setup process.
- Connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network.
- Open or install the Xbox app for Quest where it is offered in your region.
- Sign in with a Microsoft/Xbox account.
- Pair the included Xbox Wireless Controller if it is not already connected.
- Launch Xbox Cloud Gaming and select a supported title.
Xbox recommends at least 20 Mbps for stable cloud gaming, but latency, packet loss, Wi-Fi congestion, region and service load also affect the result. The experience is generally a giant virtual screen rather than a native six-degrees-of-freedom VR version of an Xbox game. Supported titles change, and not every game you own can be streamed.
Game Pass Ultimate is generally required for Game Pass cloud titles. Xbox also supports a changing selection of “stream your own game” titles, so verify an individual game before buying a subscription or headset. Progress and achievements can carry across supported Xbox devices and platforms. See Xbox’s cloud-gaming guide for current requirements.

Do you need an Xbox console?
No. You can use Cloud Gaming without owning a console if you have a Microsoft account, compatible controller, suitable internet connection, supported region and the required subscription or game access. A console remains useful for remote play, local access and games that are not cloud-enabled.
Xbox Edition versus a regular Quest 3S
| Feature | Xbox Edition | Regular Quest 3S |
|---|---|---|
| Core performance | Quest 3S platform | Quest 3S platform |
| Storage in compared bundle | 128GB | 128GB or other standard configurations, depending on model |
| Xbox styling | Carbon Black/Velocity Green | Standard finish |
| Xbox controller | Included, limited edition | Buy separately |
| Elite Strap | Included | Buy separately |
| Game Pass Ultimate | Three-month promotion | Not normally bundled |
| Xbox Cloud Gaming capability | Yes | Yes, with compatible controller and service access |
Xbox later confirmed that Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 and regular Quest 3S owners can also play supported Xbox games on a large virtual display with a controller. The Xbox Edition is therefore not required for streaming; its premium is the bundle and collectability. See the July Xbox update.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Xbox Edition versus Quest 3
Quest 3 is the stronger choice for visual quality. Quest 3 uses pancake optics, while Quest 3S uses Fresnel lenses; pancake lenses generally provide a larger clear viewing area and easier edge-to-edge focus. Quest 3 also comes in storage configurations beyond the Xbox Edition’s fixed 128GB bundle.
Choose the Xbox Edition instead when the Xbox finish, included controller, Elite Strap and subscription trials matter more than optical clarity. If your priority is extensive native VR gaming, reading text in-headset or reducing lens glare, Quest 3’s optical upgrade is more significant than the Xbox branding.

Who should buy it?
It makes sense for
- Xbox fans who want the black-and-green limited-edition design.
- New VR buyers who need an Elite Strap and Xbox controller anyway.
- Collectors who can find a complete, authentic bundle near the original MSRP.
- Players who want Quest VR and Xbox Cloud Gaming in one package.
Look elsewhere if
- You already own a Quest 3S, compatible controller or Game Pass Ultimate.
- You do not plan to use cloud gaming.
- You mainly want the clearest VR image; Quest 3’s pancake lenses are the more meaningful upgrade.
- A reseller is charging a substantial premium or has redeemed subscription codes.
Before buying a used or imported unit
- Confirm the headset is actually the 128GB Xbox Edition, not a standard Quest 3S with aftermarket accessories.
- Ask whether the Game Pass and Horizon+ promotions have been redeemed.
- Check regional warranty, power-adapter and subscription eligibility details.
- Inspect controller pairing, headset resets and battery condition.
Common problems and fixes
Cloud gaming stutters or looks blurry
Test near the router, use 5GHz or 6GHz Wi-Fi where supported, pause other downloads and check latency and packet loss. Meeting 20 Mbps alone does not guarantee a good stream.
The Xbox controller will not connect
Charge it, remove it from another paired device, put it into pairing mode, then open Quest Bluetooth settings and pair it again. Restart both devices if necessary.
A game is unavailable
Check whether it supports Xbox Cloud Gaming, is included in your current plan, or appears in the “stream your own game” catalog. Do not assume every digitally owned Xbox game is streamable.
The headset feels uncomfortable
Adjust strap tension and facial-interface position, and use the included Elite Strap correctly. Consider replacement accessories only after confirming Quest 3S compatibility.
Verdict
The Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition is a genuine, attractive limited bundle—not a faster Xbox-specific headset. At or near its $399.99 launch price, it can be worthwhile for Xbox collectors and buyers who need the controller, Elite Strap and trials. For everyone else, a regular Quest 3S delivers the same basic Xbox streaming and Quest platform, while Quest 3 is the better investment for sharper, more comfortable VR viewing.
