The NHRC’s February 2025 communication was not a court order, and the reported removal came later under a separate, reportedly government-issued direction.
What happened on India’s Got Latent?
The remark was made during an episode of comedian Samay Raina’s online show, released shortly before the controversy erupted on February 10, 2025. Allahbadia appeared as a guest judge alongside Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh and Apoorva Mukhija, also known as The Rebel Kid. A clip circulated widely online and drew criticism.
In the exchange, Allahbadia posed a sexual question involving a contestant’s parents. The remark was widely described as vulgar and explicit. This description reflects the language used in reports and the NHRC’s concerns; it is not a court finding that the remark violated a criminal law. Scroll’s February 10 report covered the episode and the ensuing response.
What did the NHRC ask YouTube to do?
The NHRC said it acted after receiving a complaint from Yogendra Singh Thakur. The commission cited Section 12 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, and raised concerns about the safety, dignity and mental well-being of women and children. It asked YouTube to take urgent action to remove the relevant episode or videos, provide channel and video details to police before removal, and submit an action-taken report within three days. The commission’s communication and its stated concerns are reproduced in an NHRC-hosted press clipping dated February 11, 2025.

That was a statutory commission’s communication to the platform—not a Supreme Court or High Court injunction. The reported letter records the NHRC’s concerns and request for action; it does not establish that the commission reached a final legal finding after a hearing. Nor does the available material show that the NHRC itself removed or blocked the video.
Was the episode removed from YouTube?
A February 12, 2025 report reproduced in the NHRC’s press archive said the episode had been removed from YouTube following a Government of India order. That is contemporaneous reporting, not a direct YouTube confirmation or the text of a publicly located government takedown order. The reported removal concerns the episode on YouTube; it does not establish that every clip or repost disappeared, or specify the geographic scope or duration of the action. It also should not be confused with the NHRC’s earlier request: the reported government direction was a separate development.
How did Allahbadia respond?
Allahbadia apologised after the backlash. He called his comment inappropriate and unfunny, said comedy was not his forte, and acknowledged responsibility for content watched by people of different ages, according to Scroll’s report. The apology was a public response to criticism; it is not, by itself, an admission of criminal liability.

What police and court action followed?
Complaints were reported to Mumbai Police and the Maharashtra State Commission for Women against Allahbadia, Raina, Mukhija and people involved in the programme. Scroll’s initial February 10 report said police were inquiring into the matter and that no case had yet been registered at that point. Later coverage reported FIRs and wider proceedings. Those stages should not be collapsed into a single event: a complaint, an inquiry, an FIR and a final criminal judgment are not the same thing.
The legal timeline continued well after the NHRC’s communication. Later reports described Supreme Court restrictions on Allahbadia producing or airing shows, followed by permission to resume his podcast subject to conditions. On September 24, 2025, the Supreme Court permitted him to resume The Ranveer Show subject to an undertaking and conditions concerning decency, morality and commentary on pending cases. The order is reproduced by Indian Kanoon; a broader chronology appears in Scroll’s coverage archive. Permission to resume the podcast was not a final criminal verdict.

Why the distinction between the NHRC letter and later action matters
The episode was on YouTube, but the remark occurred on Raina’s show—not in an original BeerBiceps programme. The NHRC responded to a complaint by asking the platform to act and to share identifying details with police; the reported takedown was attributed to a separate government direction. Later Supreme Court proceedings addressed Allahbadia’s ability to resume his own show and imposed conditions. Each development involved a different actor, process and remedy.
The case also illustrates why a public controversy should not be mistaken for a legal conclusion. Objectionable speech can prompt complaints, platform action or official scrutiny, but those events do not by themselves establish that a court found a rights violation or that a person was convicted. The available sources document the NHRC’s stated concerns, reports of removal and subsequent court conditions; they do not establish a final criminal verdict.
