As of August 18, 2026, no Christmas movie appears in Netflix’s latest available U.S. weekly Top 10 for movies, covering August 3–9. That chart lists ten non-holiday titles, so there is no verified basis for calling a Christmas film a current U.S. Netflix Top 10 hit. The chart is weekly, not a live ranking for August 18. See Netflix’s U.S. Top 10.
That does not mean holiday movies are absent from Netflix. It means “available,” “promoted” and “trending” are different claims. This guide is about the U.S. catalog checked August 18, 2026; it does not name individual films as available because the evidence here does not verify current title pages. Check a film’s Netflix detail page before making plans—catalogs and rankings vary by country and date.

Are Christmas movies trending on Netflix right now?
There is no Christmas title in Netflix’s latest surfaced U.S. weekly movie Top 10, for August 3–9, 2026. The ten films listed are The Last House, 72 HOURS, In the Land of Saints and Sinners, Minions, Terry McMillan Presents: His, Hers & Ours, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Chief of Station, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Black Adam and A Toxic Love Story. None is a Christmas movie.
This is the latest available official weekly chart cited here, not proof of what viewers are watching on August 18 itself. Netflix says its in-app Top 10 lists update daily, while its public Top 10 site updates weekly. A title that ranked in a past holiday season should not be described as trending now without current evidence. Netflix explains how its Top 10 lists work.

What “trending” means—and what it doesn’t
- Top 10 verified: The strongest public evidence is a dated appearance in Netflix’s country-specific Top 10. Name the country, chart period and rank.
- Netflix-promoted: A title surfaced by Netflix in a discovery row or featured on its official editorial site is receiving platform attention, but that alone does not establish audience popularity. Netflix describes discovery areas such as New & Popular, Latest and New & Hot; labels can differ by device. See Netflix’s guidance on finding new and trending titles.
- Available: A film appearing in search or a holiday category can be watched in that catalog at the time checked. Category placement is not a popularity ranking.
- Recommended: A critic’s or editor’s pick is a judgment about audience fit or quality, not evidence that the film is trending.
Netflix’s Tudum is an official companion site, so its coverage is first-party editorial promotion rather than independent audience measurement. Netflix describes Tudum.
How to choose a Christmas film once you find one
Netflix’s catalog can change, and a current title-by-title list needs each film’s detail page checked. Once you confirm a title is available in your account, these distinctions help match it to your viewing plans:
- Traditional family Christmas: Look for a story where Christmas is central, and check the maturity rating and synopsis for the youngest viewer.
- Romance: Holiday romantic comedies tend to foreground relationships and seasonal settings; choose one if you want a lighter, predictable arc rather than a plot driven by action or suspense.
- Children or animation: Confirm whether the result is a feature film, short, or special. A holiday search can mix all three, and their runtimes differ substantially.
- Light comedy: Check the synopsis and rating rather than assuming a Christmas label means gentle humor; some holiday stories are aimed at adults.
- Sentimental viewing: A family reunion, loss or reconciliation plot may be more emotional than cozy. The title description can help flag that tone.
- Unusual or darker holiday viewing: Search results can include horror, action, or Christmas-adjacent stories. Read the synopsis and rating before starting a mixed-age watch.
- Short weeknight choice: Use the runtime shown on the title page and distinguish a short special from a feature-length movie.
These are selection criteria, not claims that a particular film currently appears in the U.S. catalog or is charting.
How Netflix’s catalog and rankings can differ for you
Netflix catalogs and Top 10 lists are regional. Availability also changes over time, particularly for licensed movies, so a result seen previously may no longer be playable. A Netflix original may be less exposed to an outside licensing change, but that does not guarantee it will remain available or that it is popular.

The rows you see can also depend on the profile and device. Netflix says discovery section names and availability vary by device, and a personalized row is not a universal ranking. A VPN can affect the apparent region; profile maturity settings can also restrict what appears in Top 10. If your results differ, check the account’s location and profile settings. Netflix’s Top 10 help page covers these cases.
How to check whether a movie is trending and still available
- Set the market: Use Netflix in the country whose catalog you care about; this guide concerns the United States.
- Check the app’s Top 10 Movies row: If a Christmas film appears, note its rank and the date you saw it. In-app lists can change daily.
- Look at discovery rows: Check New & Popular, Latest, New & Hot or a similarly named section. Their labels vary by device, and placement should be called promotion or discovery—not proof of a Top 10 ranking.
- Search “Christmas,” “holiday” or “winter”: Search results show discoverability, not necessarily popularity or a conventional Christmas plot.
- Open the title page: Confirm it plays in your account and check the synopsis, runtime and maturity rating before choosing it.
- Verify the public chart: Consult Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 page and record the chart week. The public chart updates weekly, so do not describe it as a live daily ranking.
If the list is missing or looks wrong, Netflix recommends considering VPN interference and profile maturity settings. Availability and ranking can also differ if you are not in the U.S.

Frequently asked questions
Does Netflix’s Top 10 prove a movie is good?
No. It indicates chart performance for the stated market and period, not a critical verdict or a guarantee that the film suits your group.
Why can one person find a title when another cannot?
They may be using different country catalogs, profiles with different maturity settings, or a VPN that changes the apparent region. Licensing changes can also remove a title after someone last watched it.

Can I watch Christmas movies outside December?
Yes, if a title is in your Netflix catalog at the time you check. The calendar does not establish availability; the title page does.
Are Netflix originals less likely to disappear?
Not necessarily. “Netflix original” is not a promise of permanent availability, and it says nothing by itself about whether a movie is trending.
