The deal did not make every Wondery show permanently exclusive or mark a single launch of all Brazilian podcast content.
What Amazon announced about Wondery
Amazon said it had agreed to acquire Wondery, a podcast publisher and production studio known for narrative, business, entertainment and true-crime programming. Amazon framed the deal as a way to grow its podcast business and bring creators, hosts and immersive audio experiences to more listeners around the world. The announcement concerned an acquisition agreement—not a new podcast app or a Brazil-specific content launch.
Amazon’s February 2021 financial-results release still described the transaction as pending customary closing conditions. That release therefore does not establish that the acquisition had closed by the date it was published. The cited announcement did not disclose financial terms. Amazon’s financial-results release
Why a podcast studio mattered to Amazon Music
Wondery was a production and publishing business, distinct from Amazon Music, the service listeners use to find and play audio. Bringing a studio with established shows, creative staff and host relationships into Amazon’s business gave Amazon a way to build and distribute more podcast programming, rather than simply adding another listening interface. That strategic rationale is an inference from the companies’ roles; Amazon described the goal as accelerating podcast growth and expanding global reach.

Wondery programming could be distributed through Amazon’s audio services, but ownership alone does not tell a listener whether a particular show is exclusive, released early on one service, or available elsewhere. Those terms are title-specific.
How the Brazil rollout developed
Amazon Brazil later referred to Wondery as Amazon’s podcast studio and highlighted locally produced or Brazil-focused shows. These releases show the local consequences of Amazon’s podcast strategy; they should not be mistaken for content terms announced alongside the original acquisition agreement.

A Coach: Amazon Music first, not necessarily Amazon Music only
Presented by Brazilian journalist, writer and screenwriter Chico Felitti, A Coach was produced by Wondery and Pachorra Felitti Áudios, Livros e Filmes. The series investigates Kat Torres and her public personas and careers. Amazon Brazil described episodes as arriving first on Amazon Music, while also saying the podcast was free and available on other audio-streaming services. That is an early-access window, not evidence of permanent platform exclusivity. Amazon’s listing counted nine main episodes and two extras at the time of its announcement. Caso Bizarro: one weekly episode described as exclusive
Created by Mabê Bonafé and produced by Wondery, Caso Bizarro combines strange stories from international reporting with listener submissions. In a May 2024 feature, Amazon Brazil said the show had more than 80 episodes available and released two episodes each week, one of them exclusive to Amazon Music. Amazon also called it the service’s second-most-listened podcast in Brazil at that time. That is Amazon’s historical platform ranking, not a current position or an independently audited national chart. Amazon Brazil’s feature on Caso Bizarro

Other popular podcasts are not automatically Wondery exclusives
Amazon Brazil’s June 2024 list of popular Amazon Music podcasts included Histórias da Firma, Flow Podcast and Os Sócios Podcast. Amazon described Histórias da Firma, associated with Déia Freitas, as its leading podcast at the time. The list provides a dated snapshot of listening on Amazon Music; it does not show that every listed program was made by Wondery or exclusive to Amazon. Amazon Brazil’s 2024 podcast list
What “exclusive” can mean
Podcast availability labels describe different arrangements. An Amazon Original may be commissioned or produced for Amazon; an Amazon Music exclusive may be restricted to that service, either for a specific release or a longer period. A first-window show appears on Amazon Music before other services, while ad-free listening is a playback benefit that does not necessarily restrict where the show can be heard.

| Arrangement | What it means | Brazil example or qualification |
|---|---|---|
| First on Amazon Music | Episodes arrive there before appearing on other services. | A Coach was described as available first on Amazon Music and also on other audio-streaming services. (Amazon Brazil) |
| Exclusive episode | A particular episode or release is limited to Amazon Music, according to the stated terms. | Amazon Brazil said one of Caso Bizarro’s two weekly episodes was exclusive. That claim does not establish exclusivity for the whole catalog. (Amazon Brazil) |
| Ad-free access | A listener receives a version without ads under a service or membership benefit; the show may still be available elsewhere. | In November 2022, Amazon announced ad-free access to a broad selection of top podcasts, including Wondery programming, for Prime members in the markets covered by that announcement. It did not establish identical terms in Brazil. (Amazon’s announcement) |
| Free listening | A show can be heard without a paid Prime membership; other product benefits may differ. | Amazon Brazil described A Coach as free to hear and available on audio-streaming services. This does not mean every Amazon Music podcast or music feature is free. (Amazon Brazil) |
What Prime membership did—and did not—establish
Amazon’s November 2022 announcement said Prime members in the markets covered by the release would receive ad-free access at no additional cost to a broad selection of top podcasts, including the Wondery catalog and Amazon-exclusive shows. It named programs such as Dr. Death, SmartLess and Even the Rich as examples. The release’s geographic scope should not be extended to Brazil without Brazil-specific terms. Amazon’s Prime podcast announcement
Prime membership and Amazon Music are related offerings, not interchangeable names for one service. A podcast may be free to hear without Prime, while membership can affect benefits such as ad-free access in eligible markets. Terms can vary by title, country and date; availability of a show in one country or Amazon service does not establish availability in another.

How to check where a show is available
- Search Amazon Music for the exact show title. Check the show page and individual episode details rather than assuming that every Wondery production has the same terms.
- Look for the specific access label. Distinguish an episode marked exclusive from a release described as arriving first or an ad-free benefit tied to eligibility.
- Check other podcast services if an episode is missing. An Amazon-first release may later be distributed more broadly; the A Coach announcement explicitly described availability on other audio services.
- Confirm your country and account terms. Catalog rights and membership benefits can differ by territory. Amazon Music, Wondery+, Audible, Prime Video and Alexa are separate services or distribution surfaces, so presence on one does not prove access through another.
