U2 brought “Atomic City” to the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in a segment filmed from Las Vegas’s Sphere. The Recording Academy billed it as the venue’s first broadcast performance. The segment aired during the February 4, 2024 telecast, while the ceremony itself took place at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
For an authorized video, check the official GRAMMY video archive first. Availability can change by country and over time; do not assume that every clip labeled “U2 at Sphere” is the Grammy segment.
What song did U2 perform?
The song was “Atomic City,” U2’s 2023 Las Vegas-themed single and one of the songs most closely associated with the band’s U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere residency. It was not “With or Without You,” “One” or “Beautiful Day,” although those songs also appeared in the residency.
The band’s appearance had a second Grammy role: U2 presented Taylor Swift with the award for Best Pop Vocal Album. That presentation and the performance were part of the same awards-show appearance.

Where to watch the performance
- Start with the GRAMMY archive: Search the official video page for U2, “Atomic City” or the 2024 ceremony.
- Check U2’s official archive: The U2 video library contains Sphere material, but a residency clip such as “With or Without You – U2:UV Achtung Baby at Sphere” is not automatically the Grammy broadcast.
- Use publisher-hosted footage only when authorized: If an official clip is unavailable, a reputable outlet’s embedded video is preferable to an unauthorized full-show upload.
The original broadcast aired on CBS on Sunday, February 4, 2024, beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern/5 p.m. Pacific. Paramount+ was listed as a U.S. streaming option for that 2024 broadcast; that historical arrangement does not establish current availability.
Was U2’s Sphere performance actually live?
The answer depends on what “live” means. The Grammys presented the segment as a history-making broadcast performance, but U2-focused archival documentation indicates that the band was not physically performing at Sphere during the ceremony and that the televised piece was assembled from previously recorded and edited material.
- Live broadcast: A segment transmitted as part of the awards show.
- Live performance: Musicians playing in real time at the venue while the program is being broadcast.
- Pre-recorded segment: Footage filmed earlier, then edited into the live telecast.
Accordingly, it is accurate to call the appearance a Grammy broadcast performance, but “U2 performed live from Sphere during the ceremony” overstates what the available documentation supports. The production caveat is reported by U2Songs’ 2024 year-in-review.
Why the appearance mattered
The Recording Academy described U2’s appearance as the first-ever broadcast performance from Sphere. That distinction linked a major television event with a venue built around panoramic LED imagery and immersive audio rather than a conventional concert stage.

The residency ran from September 2023 through March 2, 2024, according to U2’s official tour listing. A home video cannot reproduce the scale of Sphere’s wraparound screen or its room-filling sound, but the Grammy segment showed how that environment could be packaged for a broadcast audience.

Who was in U2’s Sphere lineup?
Bono, The Edge and Adam Clayton performed with drummer Bram van den Berg during the residency. Founding drummer Larry Mullen Jr. was absent while recovering from back surgery, a lineup change documented by the Associated Press.
Do not confuse these videos
Search results may combine several different kinds of footage:
- The edited Grammy segment featuring “Atomic City.”
- A complete or partial U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere residency performance.
- The “Atomic City” music video or promotional footage.
- Material from the later concert film V-U2: An Immersive Concert Film at Sphere Las Vegas, referenced by Sphere Entertainment.
Check the uploader, date and description before assuming a clip is the Grammy appearance. Rights restrictions can make an official video disappear or become region-limited, so an unavailable player does not mean the performance never had an authorized release.
