The CMF Phone 1 is no longer an unreleased rumor. A June 2024 leak attributed to Yogesh Brar accurately forecast most of the hardware before CMF announced the phone on July 8, 2024. The retail model delivered a 120Hz AMOLED display, Dimensity 7300 chip, 5,000mAh battery and interchangeable rear shells, starting at $199 in the United States. However, regional configurations, carrier support and the absence of NFC matter more than the old headline price—especially when considering a used phone in 2026.
What the June 2024 leak claimed
Android Authority reported on June 26, 2024 that tipster Yogesh Brar had provided specifications and Indian pricing that Nothing had not yet confirmed. The leak listed a 6.7-inch Full HD AMOLED screen at 120Hz, an in-display fingerprint reader, MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300, 6GB or 8GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage, a dedicated microSD slot, a 50MP main camera with a depth sensor, a 16MP selfie camera, Android 14, a 5,000mAh battery and 33W charging. It also cited ₹15,999 and ₹17,999 Indian prices, reportedly connected to early-bird terms. Android Authority’s original report made clear these were unconfirmed claims.
Leak versus the final phone
| Leaked claim | What shipped | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED | 6.67-inch Full HD AMOLED, 120Hz | Broadly accurate |
| Dimensity 7300 | Dimensity 7300 5G | Confirmed |
| 6GB/8GB RAM | 6GB or 8GB | Market-dependent |
| 128GB/256GB storage | 128GB or 256GB | Market-dependent |
| Dedicated microSD slot | Included | Reviews reported cards up to 2TB |
| 50MP camera plus depth sensor | 50MP Sony main camera plus depth sensor | No ultrawide or telephoto camera |
| 16MP selfie camera | 16MP front camera | Confirmed |
| Android 14 | Nothing OS 2.6 based on Android 14 | Launch software |
| 5,000mAh battery and 33W charging | Both included | Wired charging only |
| ₹15,999/₹17,999 | Indian launch pricing broadly began at ₹15,999 | Configuration and promotional conditions varied |
The leak was therefore broadly accurate on core hardware, but it was not a permanent global price list and did not establish identical specifications in every country.
Confirmed specifications and notable omissions
The final phone has Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, dual-5G capability with region-specific bands, an in-display fingerprint reader and IP52 splash resistance. The official regional product page lists the battery, Sony camera and memory/storage combinations. Launch details are also documented by MacRumors.

What the “modular” design actually does
A supplied screwdriver lets owners remove the screw-mounted rear shell. Black, orange, light green and blue shells were offered, and a thumb-screw mounting point accepts accessories. Launch coverage listed replacement backs at $35 and the stand, card case/wallet and lanyard holder at $25 each; those are historical US launch prices, not verified 2026 prices.
The internals are not user-swappable. The battery, camera and processor are not modular, and WIRED warned that the construction does not automatically make the phone easy to repair. Avoid unauthorized battery removal. WIRED’s review explains the limitation.

Performance, cameras and battery in reviews
Everyday speed and screen
Reviewers generally found the Dimensity 7300 and 8GB combination smooth for ordinary apps. The 120Hz AMOLED panel was praised for sharpness and fluid scrolling. WIRED cited a claimed peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits; peak figures are not the same as sustained brightness in every outdoor situation.
Cameras
The 50MP Sony main camera can produce good results in favorable light. Low-light quality and shooting flexibility are weaker, because the second rear sensor supplies depth data for portraits rather than an ultrawide or telephoto view.

Battery
The 5,000mAh cell and 33W charging produced strong endurance in reviews, with some moderate-use testing reporting roughly two days. Screen brightness, games, navigation, signal strength and background activity can materially change that result.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.US carrier warning
The US model came through a beta program rather than broad conventional carrier distribution. WIRED found the phone worked best on T-Mobile; AT&T use was possible but 5G support was limited or inconsistent, and CMF did not recommend Verizon because of band and legacy-network limitations.

Before buying an imported, used or refurbished unit, verify:
- the exact model number and LTE/5G bands;
- VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling and carrier IMEI approval;
- warranty region and software variant;
- whether the listing is new, imported, refurbished or used.
“Unlocked” alone does not guarantee useful coverage.
Software-support outlook
CMF promised two Android OS upgrades and three years of security updates. That is shorter than the commitments from several major Android brands, particularly for buyers planning to keep a phone for four years or more. The promise dates from the launch period; confirm Nothing’s current support status before buying in 2026.
Who should consider the CMF Phone 1?
Good fit
- Budget buyers prioritizing an AMOLED display, battery life, everyday performance and expandable storage.
- People who do not need NFC payments or transit passes.
- Buyers in officially supported markets with local warranty coverage.
- US users whose carrier and bands have been specifically verified, especially T-Mobile customers.
Poor fit
- Verizon customers or anyone unwilling to check network compatibility.
- Users who rely on Google Wallet, NFC transit or wireless charging.
- Photographers who require an ultrawide camera.
- Buyers seeking strong water resistance, long update support or an easily replaceable battery.
Should you buy one in 2026?
At its July 2024 launch price, the CMF Phone 1 offered unusually strong screen, battery and performance value. In August 2026, the decision depends on the actual asking price and condition rather than the old $199 headline. Check battery health, remaining security support, carrier bands, NFC requirements, return rights and warranty before purchasing. A cheap used unit can make sense as a secondary or travel phone, but an unverified import can be a poor bargain even when its sticker price is low.
