Stable Windows 11 is supported for Modern Warfare II and Warzone, but Windows 11 Insider Preview builds are not guaranteed to work. Activision’s Warzone requirements warn that trial, beta and Insider versions of compatible Windows editions may not be supported. If either game stopped launching after you joined the Insider Program, return to a production Windows 11 build before spending time on reinstalls or registry tweaks.
Check whether your Windows installation is an Insider build
First confirm the operating-system build rather than assuming that “Windows 11” means a supported production release.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
winverand press Enter. - Record the Windows edition, version and OS build shown in the dialog.
You can also open Settings > System > About. Dev, Beta, Canary and other preview-channel builds are Insider installations. Microsoft documents these checks in its Windows Insider management guide.
Activision’s general troubleshooting pages list Windows 10 and Windows 11 as supported operating systems, but its more specific Warzone requirements explicitly qualify Insider versions. “May not be supported” does not mean every preview build fails; it means Activision does not guarantee functionality or have to treat failures on that build as a game defect.

The highest-confidence fix: use a production Windows build
If the games worked before the PC entered Insider and failed afterward, the preview build is the leading variable. A clean test is to run the games on a publicly released Windows 11 build.
Try Microsoft’s supported opt-out path
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Open Windows Insider Program.
- Choose Stop getting preview builds and follow the prompts.
This setting may only stop future preview releases when the PC reaches an eligible production build; it does not necessarily downgrade the current installation immediately. Microsoft says Insider builds are less stable than production releases, are serviced differently and eventually expire.
When opt-out cannot convert the current build
Back up personal files, game saves and authentication data before recovery. If the current preview cannot transition normally, use the appropriate Windows recovery image or perform a clean installation of a production Windows release. Going back to an earlier build alone does not remove the device from the Insider Program, so change the Insider setting as well. See Microsoft’s rollback guidance.

Windows 10 appears in Activision’s Warzone requirements, but Microsoft support for Windows 10 ended on October 14, 2025. For a new installation in 2026, supported production Windows 11 is the more appropriate long-term target.

Use this order so you do not reinstall a large game when the actual problem is a prerequisite, driver or conflicting utility.
1. Install normal Windows updates
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates and restart.
A preview build can be “up to date” while still outside Activision’s support guarantee; production status and update status are separate questions.

- Turn on the Bright Lights: With the built-in RGB lighting, take your gaming experience to the next level by pressing the MSI LED button to cycle through lighting options. Customize lighting even further with MSI Center software.
2. Verify Warzone’s firmware requirements
Activision’s current Warzone page requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, in addition to 64-bit Windows, DirectX 12, broadband internet and an SSD with 116 GB available at launch. Minimum memory is 8 GB, and listed processors must support AVX.
If Warzone reports a security requirement failure, check Windows Security and your PC or motherboard manufacturer’s UEFI instructions. Enabling TPM or Secure Boot addresses that prerequisite only; it does not make an Insider build supported. Back up important data before changing firmware settings.
3. Update the graphics driver
Driver advice changes. Activision’s Warzone troubleshooting page showed these versions when checked on August 18, 2026:

| GPU category | Version shown by Activision |
|---|---|
| AMD | 25.12.1 |
| NVIDIA desktop | 591.59 |
| NVIDIA workstation | 582.08 |
| NVIDIA notebook | 591.59 |
| Intel | 32.0.101.8531 |
Use the driver appropriate to your exact GPU, notebook and Windows build rather than treating these dated numbers as permanent guarantees. Activision also notes that official Game Ready support has ended for NVIDIA Maxwell and Pascal cards and lists a last recommended driver for those architectures.
4. Repair the game files
- Battle.net: open the game page, select the options menu and choose Scan and Repair.
- Steam: open the game’s Properties, choose Installed Files and select Verify integrity of game files.
File repair can correct damaged or missing files, but it cannot guarantee compatibility with an unsupported operating system.
5. Let shader preloading finish
For Modern Warfare II, launch the game and leave it at the main menu until shader preloading completes. Activision warns that leaving the menu interrupts this process and can cause performance problems. Do not repeatedly cancel and restart it unless it is clearly frozen.
Best Value
- CPU: AMD Ryzen7 5700X (up to 4.6GHz) 8-Core 16-Thread to easily handle multi-line tasks
- Main board: MSI B550M-A PRO motherboard provides reliable performance and stability
- GPU: Geforce RTX 5060 8GB GDDR7 Graphics Cards (Brand may vary) Support DLSS 4 multi frame generation, ray tracing, and Reflex 2 delay optimization
- RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz (16GB*2) SSD: 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe
- Power supply: 650W (80plus bronze) certified for energy efficiency and stable performance
6. Remove software conflicts temporarily
Activision identifies antivirus interference, overlays, input-remapping and recording tools, plus Razer Synapse, NZXT CAM, MSI Afterburner and Razer Cortex, as possible trouble sources. Update Razer Synapse, disable overlays and the named utilities for a controlled test, or perform a clean boot. Add an antivirus exception only for the official game folder, restore normal protection after testing and never install an unofficial executable or anti-cheat bypass.
7. Restore Windows security defaults
If you or a security utility disabled Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR), re-enable it through Windows Exploit Protection defaults for the affected game. Avoid speculative registry commands that may not apply to your build.
8. Report persistent crashes
After stable Windows, updates, prerequisite checks, driver work and conflict isolation, use Activision’s PC crash-reporting option from its Warzone troubleshooting page or the Modern Warfare II troubleshooting page.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Match the symptom to the likely branch
| Symptom | First checks |
|---|---|
| Nothing launches or the launcher closes | Confirm Insider status, then update Windows, drivers and repair files. |
| Crash during startup or shader compilation | Complete shader preloading, update the driver and disable overlays. |
| Freeze at splash screen or menu | Test a production Windows build, then clean boot and repair files. |
| Crash entering multiplayer or Warzone | Check driver, overlays, TPM/Secure Boot and available SSD space. |
| Anti-cheat, Secure Boot or TPM error | Use stable Windows, verify firmware settings and remove modified software. |
| Graphics corruption or driver reset | Install the correct dated driver and test without tuning utilities. |
| Battle.net or Steam reports damaged files | Run the platform’s repair or verification tool after checking Windows status. |
If the game never worked on that PC, do not assume Insider is the sole cause: check hardware requirements, firmware security, drivers, storage health, files and third-party software. If it works normally on stable Windows but not on Insider, that strongly supports a platform-compatibility diagnosis, although it does not identify the exact changed component.

- Do not assume a newer preview build is automatically supported.
- Do not permanently disable antivirus, Secure Boot, ASLR or other Windows protections.
- Do not use modified executables, injectors, macros or unofficial anti-cheat “fixes.”
- Do not reinstall the game or Windows before backing up personal data.
- Do not treat an ordinary crash as proof of an account ban or enforcement action.
Should you stay on Windows Insider?
You can try a newer preview build, an appropriate graphics driver, file repair and an Activision crash report, but there is no guarantee that a future Insider release will restore compatibility. Activision’s warning places the risk with the preview configuration. Reliable access to Modern Warfare II and Warzone therefore means using a supported production Windows build.
