The page did show a separate degraded-performance issue for Epic Games Store installation or updates affecting some Windows 10 users. Because status changes quickly, check Epic’s live status page before changing settings or reinstalling.
A green status indicator does not rule out a regional outage, Xbox Live or PlayStation Network failure, ISP problem, account issue or a newly developing incident.
Is Fortnite down right now?
Epic lists Fortnite components separately, so one feature can fail while others remain available. Check login and authentication, game services, matchmaking, parties and friends, voice chat, statistics, the Item Shop and Fortnite Crew, and any affected mode such as Reload. The August 18 check listed all Fortnite components as operational. Recent resolved incidents included Mexico login problems and matchmaking or party problems on August 14, plus Fortnite Reload matchmaking issues on August 5. These dates and statuses are historical, not a guarantee of current availability.
If players are reporting failures but Epic has not acknowledged an incident, describe it as reported problems rather than a confirmed global outage. A regional incident, such as the Mexico issue, should not be called worldwide.

How to check Fortnite, Xbox and PlayStation status
- Open Epic Games Public Status and inspect Fortnite’s individual components.
- Check Epic’s official Fortnite Status communications for acknowledgments and workarounds. Social reports are not confirmation until Epic recognizes the issue.
- For Xbox, check Xbox Live service status, especially if sign-in, multiplayer, parties or the Microsoft Store also fail.
- For PS4, check PlayStation Network status as well as Epic.
- Use outage-reporting sites only as signals. A spike can represent one ISP, country, platform, update or router rather than Fortnite itself.
Quick checks before platform-specific repairs
Epic’s connection guidance covers login, updates, matches, parties, packet loss and latency. Work through these in order:
- Close and relaunch Fortnite.
- Fully restart the PC or console rather than leaving it suspended.
- Restart the modem and router, then check your ISP for a local outage.
- Install Fortnite, console and Windows updates.
- Temporarily disable a VPN or proxy and test a wired connection or mobile hotspot.
- Try another device or network. If the same account fails everywhere, a service or account issue is more likely; if only your home network fails, investigate the router, ISP or DNS.
- Use platform-specific cache, file-repair and NAT steps below.
- Reinstall only after these checks, particularly on a slow or metered connection.
Fortnite not working on Xbox
Check Xbox services and restart completely
Use the Xbox status page first. If Fortnite, Xbox sign-in and other multiplayer functions fail together, wait for Microsoft’s service to recover. Otherwise shut the console down fully, wait briefly and restart it. Epic’s current console guidance covers cache clearing and power cycling; follow the model-appropriate instructions at Epic’s console troubleshooting page rather than relying on an old button sequence.

Parties, NAT and crossplay
For party error 91 or a login that works but matchmaking does not, inspect the Xbox NAT type, restart the router and enable UPnP if appropriate. Confirm crossplay when joining players on other platforms. Epic lists NAT, cache, crossplay, router and restart checks for error 91. Avoid manual port forwarding unless a persistent NAT problem requires it and you understand the security implications.
“Error Connecting to Epic Services Queue”
Epic directs Xbox players with this message to Microsoft Support. It is not always fixable through Fortnite settings.

Fortnite not working on Windows PC
Separate Launcher, update and game failures
Determine whether Fortnite will not authenticate, the Epic Games Launcher says the game is unavailable, an update will not install, or the game launches but matchmaking fails. On August 18, Epic reported a Windows 10 Epic Games Store installation/update degradation while Fortnite services were operational; a Launcher problem therefore does not automatically mean Fortnite servers are down.
Verify files and update Windows
- Open Epic Games Launcher and select Library.
- Open Fortnite’s game menu and choose Verify.
- Allow the scan and repair to finish, then relaunch.
Install current Windows updates and graphics-card drivers. Epic’s login-error guidance also says to check system requirements and background applications: read it here.

VPN, proxy, DNS and firewall checks
Temporarily test without a VPN, proxy, DNS filter, antivirus web shield or network-monitoring tool; do not permanently remove security protection. For ESP errors, Epic recommends status checks, restarting networking, disabling VPNs or proxies, trying another connection and verifying PC files: ESP troubleshooting.
At an elevated Windows Command Prompt, ipconfig /flushdns clears the local DNS resolver cache. It cannot repair an Epic, Xbox, PSN or ISP outage. If Fortnite works on a hotspot but not at home, inspect router, firewall, parental-control and DNS-filter rules; use Epic’s current required-domain list rather than a permanent whitelist copied elsewhere.

Fortnite not working on PS4
Check PSN, Epic and the connection
For PlayStation sign-in failures, check both PSN and Epic. Restart the PS4 and router, and use Ethernet if possible. Epic’s PlayStation guidance recommends clearing the console cache, signing out of PSN and signing back in, and trying public DNS when appropriate: PlayStation sign-in steps.
“Checking for Updates”
Epic identifies this screen as a possible communication failure. Check server status, reset the router, restore PS4 licenses, review network settings and try wired networking. Epic’s example public DNS is primary 8.8.8.8 and secondary 8.8.4.4; DNS may help resolver failures but will not fix an outage. See the PS4 update troubleshooting page. Reinstall only after cache, account, network and update checks.

When to wait instead of troubleshooting
- Epic confirms an incident or maintenance window.
- Login or matchmaking is degraded across unrelated platforms and networks.
- The same failure occurs on another device and a mobile hotspot.
- Epic or Microsoft reports a queue, authentication or platform-service incident.
Recheck official pages periodically. Status pages can lag behind a newly developing or regional failure, but repeated reinstalls will not repair a server-side outage.
