Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If Windows 11 26H2 is not showing in Windows Update, that alone does not mean your PC is broken. Microsoft is expanding the release in phases and offers it to eligible devices running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2. Check your Windows version, update settings and any compatibility or organization-managed hold before trying other installation methods.
Microsoft’s release-health status dated September 29, 2026 says the rollout is expanding over the following months. Eligible PCs may therefore see the offer at different times. Microsoft’s Windows 11 26H2 release-health page has the latest status.
1. Check which Windows version your PC is running
Open Settings > System > About and look under Windows specifications. Microsoft’s current documented 26H2 offer is for eligible Windows 11 devices already running version 24H2 or 25H2. If your PC is on a different release, the offer may not apply directly.
The 26H2 enablement package is intended for devices on 24H2 or 25H2. Microsoft says it requires the September 22, 2026 cumulative update, KB5124010, or a later cumulative update. The three releases share a common core, and the package activates 26H2 features already present in inactive form on 24H2 and 25H2. See Microsoft’s KB5121794 support page for the package details.

2. Check Windows Update’s early-offer setting and scan
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Turn on Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available if you want to receive eligible updates earlier.
- Select Check for updates.
Microsoft says the early offer applies to eligible 24H2 and 25H2 devices with this setting enabled. It does not make an ineligible PC eligible or bypass a safeguard hold, and phased rollout means the offer may still not appear immediately. If Microsoft considers 26H2 ready for your device, it says the update will download and install; one restart completes the process. The current offer details are on the release-health page, and the setting is also covered in Microsoft’s 26H2 update history.
3. Make sure updates are not paused
In Settings > Windows Update, check whether updates are paused. If they are, resume them and check again. On a managed device, a feature-update deployment may instead be paused or scheduled by the organization. Microsoft’s Windows Update troubleshooting guidance covers update settings and managed deployment considerations.

4. Check for a safeguard hold before trying to force the update
Microsoft may temporarily withhold an update from devices affected by a known compatibility issue. If Windows Update says an update is on its way but is not ready for your device, Microsoft says that message means the device is protected by one or more safeguard holds.
A safeguard hold is intended to prevent an update from causing a known problem. Microsoft recommends waiting until the issue is resolved and the hold is released: “We recommend that you don’t attempt to manually update until issues have been resolved and holds released.” Do not try to bypass the hold on a personal PC. Microsoft describes opting out as an IT validation measure and warns of known performance risks. See Microsoft’s safeguard holds guidance.

5. If this is a work or school PC, ask IT about update policy
Organizations can control how Windows devices scan for and receive updates, including through WSUS or other update-management policies. The PC may be assigned to a feature-update deployment that has not started, is scheduled for later or is paused. Its configured scan source and feature-update enrollment can also affect what Windows Update offers.
Contact your IT administrator rather than changing managed update settings yourself. Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance explains administrator checks for update policy and scan configuration.
