LMCP is a free MCP server that its publisher says connects Claude Code and other compatible AI clients to apps and data on a Mac. It runs its tools locally, but that does not mean everything stays on the computer: requested content may be sent to the cloud AI provider you use. Before installing it, check the supported operating system, the permissions your chosen tools need, and the route your AI requests will take.
What LMCP does—and what “local” means
LMCP is described by its publisher as a local server implementing the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which lets compatible AI clients call tools that interact with apps and data on a computer. Claude Code is one supported client; the product also describes compatibility with other AI clients. Supported integrations depend on the platform. LMCP advertises “191+ tools” (LMCP, 2026); this is the publisher’s count, not an independently verified inventory or a promise that every tool will work with every configuration. LMCP product page
“Local” refers to where LMCP tools execute, not necessarily where the information in their results goes. LMCP’s permissions documentation puts it plainly: “Local tools execute on your Mac or Windows PC; cloud AI providers can receive requested content.” When a client sends tool results to a cloud AI provider, that provider may receive the requested content. The optional Cloud Relay adds LMCP infrastructure to the route between a web-based AI and the provider. LMCP Permissions LMCP Privacy Policy
| Connection route | What the route means for data |
|---|---|
| Desktop or local MCP client | LMCP tools execute on the computer. Results can still be passed from the client to its cloud AI provider; local execution alone does not keep the full exchange on-device. |
| Web AI using optional Cloud Relay | Requests and responses also pass through LMCP infrastructure before reaching the AI provider, according to LMCP’s privacy policy. |
The privacy policy also describes anonymous operational heartbeats and installation-event data collection. Its 90-day rolling retention period applies to heartbeat records, not to all user content. Check the current policy to understand what is collected for the version and configuration you use. LMCP Privacy Policy

Check platform support before installing
LMCP’s installation page lists macOS 13 or later, for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, and 64-bit Windows 10 or later. It says the Windows installer does not require administrator rights. Linux is not currently supported according to that page. These are publisher-listed requirements and may change, so consult the installation page before downloading. LMCP installation instructions
The page offers a native installer as well as optional terminal setup. The installer can configure supported AI clients it detects. Follow the page’s instructions for your client, then restart the client or open a new session as directed so it can load the MCP server configuration.

Native installer
- Open the LMCP installation page and select the installer for your operating system.
- Install and launch LMCP, following the on-screen prompts. Where setup detects a supported AI client, it can configure that client.
- Restart the client or start a new session if LMCP’s setup instructions request it. Check the client’s MCP configuration or tool list to confirm the connection is available.
Optional terminal setup
LMCP also documents a terminal route. Use the commands on its current installation page rather than copying an old command from another source: installation syntax and client configuration can change. Follow the page’s client-specific steps, then restart or open a new session as instructed. LMCP installation instructions
Permissions determine what the tools can access
On macOS, LMCP’s permissions documentation associates different capabilities with system permissions. Depending on the tools you want to use, it lists Calendars, Contacts, Reminders, Full Disk Access, Automation, Accessibility, and Screen Recording. Full Disk Access is listed for certain mail content, attachments, messages, and local app caches; Automation allows actions in selected apps; Accessibility supports GUI automation; Screen Recording is used for screen capture. LMCP says it requests Automation for Mail during setup and asks for other permissions when needed. LMCP Permissions

- 6-core Intel Core i5 processor

- 8GB 2666MHz DDR4
- Ultrafast SSD storage
- Four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports, one HDMI 2. 0 port, and two USB 3 ports
- Grant only the permissions required for your intended workflow; access can be revoked later in macOS System Settings.
- Review what a particular tool reads or changes before enabling its access. A permission name alone does not tell you which data a specific tool will use.
- On Windows, review the app’s own requirements and prompts; the macOS permission list does not describe Windows behavior.
Understand what an action will do before approving it
LMCP says confirmation and preview behavior varies by tool. Its FAQ says many tools that change data show a preview, but that is not a guarantee that every send, edit, or deletion will do so. Check the documentation for the specific tool and inspect any displayed preview before authorizing a consequential action. LMCP FAQ
For example, LMCP’s FAQ says the Mac implementation can read Microsoft Teams messages from the app’s local IndexedDB cache without using the Graph API. That description applies to the Mac implementation; it is not a guarantee for every operating system, Teams installation, or account. Availability depends on the app and the access LMCP has on the computer. LMCP FAQ

Local execution is not a compliance guarantee
LMCP’s FAQ states: “Compliance depends on your full workflow, policies and provider agreements.” The product alone does not guarantee GDPR or other regulatory compliance. Assess the complete path: the app data a tool accesses, the AI client and provider that receive tool results, any optional Cloud Relay, and the terms and controls of each service.
