To cancel a VPN subscription, first find out who billed you: the VPN provider, Apple App Store, Google Play, Amazon Appstore, or another billing service. Cancel through that seller’s subscription controls, follow every confirmation prompt, and save proof that renewal is off. A cancellation stops future renewal; a refund is a separate request.
Find who bills your VPN subscription
Check your purchase receipt, bank or card statement, and the VPN account’s billing page. The name on the transaction or receipt usually points to the right cancellation route. The device with the VPN app installed does not determine where you cancel.
- VPN provider: The purchase was made on the provider’s website or account page. Use that provider’s website.
- App store: The receipt or subscription record identifies Apple, Google Play, or Amazon. Use the same store account that made the purchase.
- Another billing system: If the subscription is absent from the expected store account, check the receipt and contact the VPN developer or seller shown there.
Cancel directly through the VPN provider
Sign in to the provider’s website—not necessarily its VPN app—and look for Billing, Subscription, or Auto-renewal. Follow the prompts until the provider confirms cancellation. Providers may use different labels and account layouts.
NordVPN
- Sign in to your Nord Account.
- Open Billing and choose the cancellation option beside auto-renewal.
- Select the option to cancel auto-renewal and confirm. NordVPN says successful cancellation changes the status to off and triggers a confirmation email. See NordVPN’s cancellation instructions.
ExpressVPN
ExpressVPN says cancellation cannot be completed inside its VPN app. For a subscription bought directly from expressvpn.com, sign in, open My subscription, and cancel under Automatic renewal. The steps vary by purchase source; see ExpressVPN’s cancellation instructions.

Google Play
- Open Google Play using the Google Account that made the purchase.
- Open Subscriptions and select the VPN.
- Choose Cancel subscription and complete the prompts. Keep the resulting confirmation or status record.
Google Play states, “When you uninstall the app, your subscription won’t cancel.” Uninstalling the VPN is not a substitute for cancellation. Google’s general guidance says access continues for the time already paid after cancellation. See Google Play’s subscription cancellation help.
Some developers use an alternative billing system. Google says those subscriptions do not appear in the Play subscriptions center; contact the developer to manage or cancel them. Uninstalling the app does not cancel these subscriptions either. See Google’s information about alternative billing.

Apple App Store or Amazon Appstore
Cancel through the Apple or Amazon store account that billed you, using that store’s current Subscriptions controls or official support instructions. VPN providers’ guidance confirms that store-billed subscriptions may need to be canceled through the store rather than through the provider. Menu labels and steps can vary, so use the store’s current instructions rather than assuming the provider’s website can cancel it.
Confirm cancellation and check remaining access
Do not stop at the first cancellation screen. Complete the prompts, then verify that auto-renewal is off or that the subscription is marked canceled. Keep the confirmation email or take a screenshot of the status, and note the next renewal date or the date paid access ends. If the status is unclear, contact the party that billed you with the receipt or transaction details.

Cancellation normally stops the next renewal; it does not necessarily end service immediately. Google Play says users generally retain access for paid time, and Proton VPN says premium features remain available until the next renewal date. Canceling also does not delete your VPN account. See Proton VPN’s cancellation guidance.

Turning off renewal does not automatically return money already paid. Submit a separate refund request promptly to the provider or store that handled the purchase. The correct contact and eligibility depend on the seller, platform, location, timing, and applicable terms; check the current policy for your purchase rather than assuming one provider’s rules apply to another channel.

- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
NordVPN directs customers seeking a refund to its separate refund policy. ExpressVPN’s terms distinguish direct billing from in-app purchases through Apple or Google; consult its terms of service and the relevant seller’s current process.
If the subscription is missing or cancellation fails
- Check other email addresses and store accounts that may have been used to subscribe.
- Compare the receipt and payment descriptor with the provider or platform’s billing records to identify the seller.
- If a store subscription is missing, check whether the developer used alternative billing; for Google Play, contact the developer if so.
- If you cannot access the account or cannot verify that renewal is off, contact the billing provider’s official support route and retain your transaction details and support messages.
Removing a payment method or disputing a charge should not be treated as confirmation that the subscription itself has been canceled. Verify the renewal status with the seller or platform.
