Overview

WorkMarket is a workforce platform for businesses that manage independent contractors. It is aimed at U.S.-entity companies engaging at least 10 contractors each month, with a broad set of tools for organizing work and handling contractor administration.

Its main advantage is connecting onboarding, assignments, payments, and tax filing in one system. The business eligibility threshold and custom pricing make it a more natural fit for established contractor programs than for small or occasional engagements.

Key features

WorkMarket collects and verifies U.S. worker tax IDs and W-9 information, and can verify bank accounts as quickly as the same day. Labor Clouds let businesses group contractors by skills, geography, background screenings, licenses, certifications, and location. That organization can help teams route work to relevant workers, though the platform’s stated focus is specifically independent contractors.

Businesses can create virtual or on-site assignments, send them to individuals or groups, track deliverables, and rate performance. Supplier and contract management, assignment tracking, spend analytics, and time and expense capture cover much of the administrative work around those assignments.

Payments can be made in bulk to U.S. and international contractors, with preset terms such as Net 15 and Net 30. WorkMarket also prepares and electronically files 1099-NEC forms with the IRS and applicable state agencies, and generates invoices on workers’ behalf. This combination is useful for businesses coordinating both payment operations and U.S. tax compliance, while international payment support does not change the stated requirement that the business have a U.S. entity.

An open API, webhooks, custom automation rules, and bulk uploads support connections to CRM, ERP, accounting, and recruiting systems. Contractors can use the mobile app for notifications, onboarding, on-site check-in and check-out, deliverables, invoices, payment requests, and auto-withdrawals; they can also contact support from the app. WorkMarket says partners receive a dedicated account manager and support for businesses and contractors.

Pricing

WorkMarket uses custom pricing, with businesses directed to contact sales. Its plan is designed for companies engaging 10 or more independent contractors per month and currently supports businesses with a U.S. entity. The custom quote means costs need to be assessed against the scale of a company’s contractor program; the stated minimum volume makes it a poor match for occasional or smaller-scale use.

Platforms

WorkMarket is available on web, Android, and iOS, and provides API access. The mobile apps serve contractors handling assignments and payment tasks, while the API and integration tools give businesses options for connecting existing systems.

Who it's for

WorkMarket best suits companies with a U.S. entity that engage at least 10 independent contractors monthly and need to coordinate onboarding, worker organization, assignment tracking, payments, and tax filing. It is less suitable for businesses below that contractor volume or without a U.S. entity.

Pros and cons

Pros: Brings worker verification, assignment management, payments, and 1099-NEC filing together, reducing the need to coordinate those workflows across separate systems.
Pros: Supports bulk and international contractor payments, with preset payment terms including Net 15 and Net 30.
Pros: Offers API access, webhooks, automation rules, and bulk uploads for connecting business systems.
Cons: Its intended minimum of 10 contractors per month and U.S.-entity requirement rule out smaller programs and businesses without that entity.
Cons: Custom pricing requires a sales conversation before businesses can assess the cost.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see Contingent Workforce Management Software. Avature and Bluecrew are paid alternatives to consider alongside WorkMarket. Magnit VMS is another paid option, with pricing handled through a demo request. PIXID VMS uses demo-request pricing for its plans. Beeline offers paid plans for mid-sized programs and for large, global, complex external-workforce programs. FlentisPRO offers a supplier-funded model with custom pricing tailored to business needs. Flextrack is a paid alternative. Outerscore offers custom VMS pricing, typically based on a share of managed spend or a flat annual SaaS subscription.

Verdict

Choose WorkMarket if your U.S.-entity business manages at least 10 independent contractors a month and wants onboarding, assignment oversight, contractor payments, and tax filing in one platform. Its integrated workflow is the strongest reason to choose it; the volume threshold, eligibility restriction, and custom pricing are the reasons to look elsewhere if your program is smaller or your business lacks a U.S. entity.
