Overview

Weebly is a hosted website builder for people who want a site with blogging, contact forms, SEO controls, booking tools or ecommerce. Its free tier is useful for getting started on a Weebly subdomain, while connecting a custom domain requires a paid plan.

The trade-off is a straightforward tier ladder whose higher prices add professional features and commerce tools, but no AI site builder. It suits people who value hosting and domain connection in one service more than AI-assisted site creation.

Key features

Hosting and SSL security are included even on the free plan, which lets a new site launch without a separate hosting purchase. The free tier uses a Weebly subdomain, however, so it is a limited fit for a business or creator who needs a custom web address.

Weebly supports blogging, contact forms, SEO controls and booking tools, giving it a broad base for informational and service-oriented sites. Ecommerce is also supported, with the Performance plan specifically including ecommerce and marketing features. Code export is available for users who want an export option; the feature set does not include an AI site builder.

Pricing

Free

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes a hosted Weebly subdomain and SSL security. It is the sensible starting point for a basic site or an initial look at the service, but it does not support a custom domain.

Personal

Personal costs 13.00 USD per month, billed annually, and adds connection of a custom domain. This is the entry point for a site that needs its own domain, but it does not include the advanced site features named for Professional or the ecommerce and marketing features named for Performance.

Professional

Professional costs 16.00 USD per month, billed annually. It includes a custom domain and advanced site features, making the small step up from Personal relevant to users who need more than domain connection alone.

Performance

Performance costs 29.00 USD per month, billed annually, and combines a custom domain with ecommerce and marketing features. It is the clearest fit for a store, though it costs substantially more than Personal or Professional. All paid plan prices are stated on an annual billing basis.

Platforms

Weebly is available on the web. Hosting is included, so a site can be managed without arranging separate hosting.

Who it's for

Weebly is a practical option for individuals and organizations that need a hosted site with a custom domain, blogging, contact forms or booking tools. The free plan works for a small project that can use a Weebly subdomain; a branded site needs at least Personal. Choose Professional for its advanced site features, or Performance when ecommerce and marketing features justify the higher annual-billed price.

Look elsewhere if an AI site builder is essential. Weebly also offers little reason to move from the free plan if a custom domain is not needed and its subdomain is acceptable.

Pros and cons

Pros: Hosting and SSL security come with the free plan, reducing the setup needed for a basic site.
Pros: Blogging, contact forms, SEO controls and booking tools cover common content and service-site needs.
Pros: Paid tiers make the upgrade path clear: domain connection at Personal, advanced site features at Professional, and ecommerce and marketing features at Performance.
Cons: The free site is limited to a Weebly subdomain, so a custom domain requires paying at least 13.00 USD per month billed annually.
Cons: Ecommerce and marketing features sit on the 29.00 USD per month annual-billed Performance tier, a notable jump over the lower plans.
Cons: There is no AI site builder for people who want that approach to site creation.

Alternatives

Consider GoDaddy Websites + Marketing if mobile apps matter: it supports Android, iOS and web, and its Commerce plan includes 100,000 monthly email marketing sends and unlimited products and services. Choose Tilda if a one-site free tier or full block access on a 15.00 USD per month Personal plan better matches your needs; Personal also includes a custom domain.

Nicepage is an alternative for people who want desktop as well as web access, with a free Starter plan that includes two desktop projects and two online projects. Webador is worth considering for an always-free plan with essential website features, or a Lite plan priced at 3.00 USD per month.

uCoz may suit a site owner prioritizing storage: its free plan includes 400 MB, while Basic is 5.99 USD per month and adds 2 GB. SimDif offers a free Starter plan capped at five pages, which may suit a small page-count site.

Vistaprint Websites is another freemium website option. Consider Themify Builder if a standalone WordPress plugin that works with third-party themes is a better fit.

Verdict

Choose Weebly if you want included hosting and a clear route from a free subdomain site to a custom-domain website, with blogging, contact forms, booking tools and ecommerce in the mix. Its strongest case is the combination of those core site functions with tiered domain and commerce upgrades. Look elsewhere if you require an AI site builder, or if the annual-billed cost of a custom domain or ecommerce tier does not fit your budget.
