Overview

Keyword Research brings together scores, estimated search volume, competition, related keywords, matching terms and questions, giving creators several ways to assess a topic before planning a video. Competitors supports channel-performance comparisons, while channel audits and metadata optimization broaden the toolkit beyond discovery. There is no rank tracking, so creators who need that specific measure should look elsewhere.

Connecting YouTube requires permission to view analytics and manage videos and playlists. vidIQ says it uses multi-factor authentication to restrict channel modifications to the owner, and identifies itself as a certified YouTube service provider that prioritizes privacy and data security. Those safeguards do not remove the practical consideration of granting account permissions.

Key features

Research and optimization

The browser extension adds video SEO scores, keyword recommendations, competitor research overlays and upload optimization tools. It can keep research close to the video workflow for creators who work in a browser; mobile apps for iPhone and Android add video research, content optimization and channel insights for work away from a desktop.

AI credits and support

AI credits are shared across supported tools and refresh monthly on the sign-up or upgrade anniversary. That makes the monthly allowance a cross-tool budget rather than a separate pool for each feature. Creator Support can be contacted through Help in the vidIQ account menu.

Pricing

vidIQ is freemium, with a free plan and paid pricing from $19/mo. The published plan terms differ substantially, so compare billing cadence and quotas rather than relying on the entry price alone.

Free: 0.00 USD per free. It includes 150 AI Credits monthly, three Keyword Research results per search, eight Outliers results per search and three Personalized Daily Ideas per day. It is a practical way to try the workflow, but the research caps can narrow its usefulness for creators who need to compare many terms regularly.
Max: 39.00 USD per year, billed yearly, with “Saving $120 with yearly billing,” 6,000 AI Credits monthly and unlimited insights. The larger credit allowance and uncapped insights suit creators who make frequent use of the tools and are comfortable with annual billing.
Boost: price not listed; billed yearly, cancel anytime. It includes 2,000 AI Credits monthly, unlimited trends research and unlimited subscriber insights. Its unlimited research and insight allowances may suit creators focused on trends and audience growth, though the unpriced plan is difficult to compare upfront.
Enterprise: 799.00 USD per month, with unlimited AI credits, up to three full-access seats and up to five connected channels. It is aimed at brands, businesses, agencies and networks managing YouTube channels; the seat and channel ceilings matter for larger teams.
Enterprise Pro: 2500.00 USD per month, with up to eight full-access seats, up to 20 connected channels and Creator Discovery. It fits organizations needing broader channel coverage and more seats than Enterprise provides.
Enterprise Pro + YouTube Strategy: custom pricing. It adds a dedicated YouTube strategist, 60-minute bi-weekly strategy calls and coaching support on one identified channel, making it the option for organizations seeking ongoing strategic guidance.

Platforms

vidIQ is available on web, Android, iOS and as a browser extension. That range supports desktop research and mobile access to channel insights, rather than limiting the toolkit to one device type.

Who it's for

vidIQ is strongest for creators who regularly research YouTube topics, compare competitor channels and optimize video metadata. The mobile apps and extension extend that work across devices, while Enterprise tiers address brands, agencies and networks managing several channels. It is a weaker fit for anyone whose priority is rank tracking or who needs generous keyword-result volume without moving beyond the free tier.

Pros and cons

Pro: Keyword Research combines demand and competition estimates with related terms and questions, giving creators more context than a single keyword score.
Pro: Extension and mobile apps bring research, optimization and channel insights to browser and phone workflows.
Pro: Enterprise plans specify seat and channel allowances, helping teams assess whether their account needs fit the tier.
Con: The free plan limits keyword searches to three results, Outliers to eight per search and daily ideas to three, which can constrain repeated exploration.
Con: vidIQ does not offer rank tracking, leaving that need unmet for creators monitoring rankings.
Con: YouTube connection requires permissions to view analytics and manage videos and playlists, a meaningful account-access tradeoff for cautious users.

Verdict
